At least on Twitter they cannot silence me :-)
They ignore me, but still feel nice to give them a hard kick in the ass :-)
It's ok.
They would ignore you on every other medium as well so at least they are consistent.

I hope you don't hit me...but you're really bad at links. *duck & cover* ![]()
Ah, the perils of linking / posting through a mobile device. Now I see why we both have trouble with this. ![]()
My links ALWAYS work lol.
Kidding. You could try them later on PC.
BTW: I so wish Leliana was still a more "active" character in DAI. She was awesome in DAO. Naturally I got the trailer-armor-mod just for her. My elven archer could've worn it, too. But this is her special armor. ^^
Oh...you...missed the latest controversy about the GTX 970 series I assume? ![]()
Nvidia played a few tricks on the stats on these cards. They now claim it was an accidental misinformation. Thing is this:
The card has 4GB of video memory, but only 3,5GB can be used via the 224bit connection to the gpu. The other 512MB care connected via a 32bit connection. No typo there, 32bit. This is mediaval stuff and results in a huge performance drop. While stuff can be loaded with a speed of 196GB/s into the 3,5GB VRam it slows to a crawl of 28GB/s for the remaining 512MB.
This results in severe stutter once the last batch of memory is actually used. Some even report instability or outright crashes when that happens. Some retailers already offer refunds to their customers because of this mess.

There's probably MUCH more when you search on google. Users are very, very pissed right now and I can't blame them.
Yeah, the GTX 980 is the better choice, but unfortunately it's a bit on the pricey side. Two-thirds more expensive but not two-thirds quicker. Plus it would be a bit of a gambit with my current psu, I should upgrade that, too. All in all more money than I'm willing to invest. I wanted to get a GTX 970 and now this. ![]()
PS: The problem is within the core technology, it can't be fixed, especially not via a new BIOS or a new driver. What's more is that the ASUS Styx should not be a 100 dollar more than any GTX 970. It should be one of the more reasonably priced actually.
Don't get this thw wrong way, but it seems to me your retailer is trying to trick you somehow. ![]()
Yes, do that. ^^
/edit: The problem is within the GPU itself. ASUS can do nothing about it. They did not modify the chip, nobody ever did. They can design their card more or less to their own desire, that is right. But core chip is all Nvidia and those that were used for the GTX 970 do suffer from this problem. All of them with no exception.
If you wanna know more about the details: The "Maxwell" graphic chip normally has 2048kb of level 2 cache. This is the case for those "Maxwell" chips that were used for the GTA 980 cards. The ones used in the GTX 970 cards though have a smaller cache of only 17xxkb. Because of the missing cache, less graphic memory (VRam) can be adressed and thus the last 512MB of Vram suffer from this huge performance drop.
Read up on it, but it's already all over the internet and the facts do pretty much "talk for themselves" so to speak. Nvidia fucked it up. -.-
Okay, good luck with the card then. ![]()
In a few weeks I will have to decide whether I get one of these and risk it or not. Since there are really no alternatives though...
I really do hope they fix it. Maybe a GTX 970 Ti as a reworked design. They're currently stonewalling the issue. Isn't it funny...there we have two totally different companies. Software and Hardware. Both screw up and both try to weasel their way out, telling BS to their customers and stuff. ![]()
But that is one person saying the Stix does not have this issue :-)
So I will hold up and put in an Asus GTX980 instead:-)
I will bite the bullet and go big or stay home :-)
Thanks for telling me about that, and they also say the GTX970 has issues with 4K monitors :-)
So GTX980 for me I guess :-)
Or wait for Nvidia to fix the 970 chip issue :-)
Guys will the Witcher run on ultra, or a little less, with these:
Intel 3.40 G Hz, i7 4770
770 GTX made for gamers or sth, 2 Gb
8 GB of RAM
Windows 8.1
I'm exceeding recommended if I'm correct and was able to run our beloved DAI on ultra (everything maxed out) not fade touched. don't know about FPS and such.
I would rather not go through the hassle and expense of changing rigs so any advice is appreciated.

Clarity/completeness
I read somewhere that the GTX 770 is good enough for 30fps on the high or highest settings. Not sure though. If I had a GTX 770 I wouldn't worry too much I guess. But I'm pretty sure my GTX 760 will struggle. That's why I planned to get a GTX 970...before this mess happened. -.-

Thank you! I changed rigs specifically for the Witcher 3, like 1 year and a half ago, before it was delayed, so...we'll see if my local PC dealer knew what he was talking about.
Shouldn't I get another 8 GB ram at least?

The irony is I bought the 970 just to play DAI (Was on a 6600 before!).
