The irony is I bought the 970 just to play DAI (Was on a 6600 before!).

The thing with the 4k monitors is part of the memory problem, yes. The 4k resolution does use up considerably more VRam. According to Nvidia the GTX 970 is designed to keep memory consumption below or at 3.5GB - a clear sign that they KNEW of this problem all along.

 

But playing with a 4k resolution the card will have a really hard time doing that and it is very likely it will go above 3.5GB, resulting in a huge performance drop. That's why the GTX 970 can be considered as a bad choice for 4k gaming at the moment.

I have similar machine and my card is a GTX 570 and all cranked up I am getting 150 to 200fPS
So you are going to have no problems :-)
I am running everything to ultra and 16x so cranked up could not go any further:-)

Thank you! I changed rigs specifically for the Witcher 3, like 1 year and a half ago, before it was delayed, so...we'll see if my local PC dealer knew what he was talking about.

Well, it's currently a bit hard to give any advice for that. Most games that are multi-platform do have a tendency of needing much VRam but surprisingly not that much Ram. It probably has something to do with the new consoles not having a dedicated Ram and Vram but instead only one chunk of Ram and for the PS4 this is even 8GB of GDDR5 memory, so it is as fast as VRam.

 

This can result in absurd requirements for Vram. For instance Shadow of Mordor demands 6GB of VRam for the ultra textures. But it doesn't benefit from more than 8GB of normal Ram. Stupid.

 

Well, memory prices are low, aren't they. If you can get an additional 8GB cheap, why not? With 16GB one could for instance disable the slow page file which is always a good thing.

Just realised Shadowrun: Dragonfall really ups the difficulty compared to DMS, got squadwiped repeatedly on VH

 

Shadow is nerfed too! Most OP skill in the vanilla game. Lucky strike is awesome though, beats Eiger who can't seem to hit anything in front of her.

As far as CPU goes you are golden :-)
But as far as video card, you will struggle a bit :-)
I would upgrade to the GTX970 when they fix the issues with the card :-)
If you want to run everything on ultra :-)
DAI is badly designed already, but TW3 is made for PC :-)
So you may want to upgrade your video card :-)
RAM is dirt cheap now :-)
But one thing I would suggest is investing in a SSD drive, that makes games fly :-)

have one a rather big one 500 Mb or so. I agree, it's a life changer for gamers.

I have two 256GIG SSD in RAID zero and that helps lots :-)
So you are golden for TW3
But if you got 450 dollars kicking around and when the glitch on the GTX970 is fixed, I would get that card and you should be fine for the next 2 plus years :-)
I myself will skip the 970 and go directly to the GTX 980 :-)
But as GODzilla the 970TI might not have this issue:-)
But the game does not come out until May so you got time to decide on the 970:-)
I am sure Nvidia will have the problem fixed by then :-)

Well according to what GODzilla said and what I read Nvidia did a bait and switch with the 970 :-(
It is a defective product :-(

Just read the Nvidia forum now here what they may do to fix the 970 issue
They may issues a bios update limiting the card to 3.5GIG
Or release a driver that would restrict the 970 to go past 3.5Gig
Those are their options, or they may recall the product :-)
