I really liked EVE when I was playing.

(Yes, I was a care-bear too)

What ultimately ruined it for me was the bills from my IP.

I can see Houston from the nearest over-pass, but my only choices for "high-speed" internet are satellite or what I'll call "wireless dial-up".

Neither are exactly cheap and both have data caps.

I tend to play for hours at a time and it only took a few bills to convince to stop. :(

Re: planning and research - I do that for my druid on EQ2. She's my main and I want her the best she can be. She can kick some serious ass when needed but she's mostly built for healing - and does it very well. If I didn't put the research in she wouldn't be half as good, and I wouldn't have as much fun whenever I do manage to get in to play (it's been a while now, but she's ready whenever I want to hop in). The research is half the fun for me, especially reading other people's pointers and going over the builds they have that work for them, then tweaking them for my own use.

Oh I have said plenty to her about spending time preparing to play vs actually playing but ultimately, from her perspective, that planning is fun for her and increases her enjoyment of the game when she does play. She doesn't have a lot of time to play and doesn't play many games so she wants to maximize the ones she does play. I can understand that. I don't "get" it, and it's not what I would want to do, but then, I am not the one playing her game fo her. She plays her way and I play mine and in games where we can, we play together and bicker and argue about who screwed up allowing the other one to die just like a married couple should :)

Kind of like that.. I do the same prep and sometimes spend more time in pre-play planning than actual play. But it's all fun for me.

I do understand the other side. My son just hops in and plays, then hollers at me for taking my sweet time  But he is also the type to spend 2 seconds in a character creator while I spend at least an hour in there. He is all about getting to the game - I'm about taking my time and enjoying the entire journey. Everyone is different.

I spend way too much time in any CC myself.

And I have yet to find one with "just" the right amount of gray for my hair ...

You should try Black Desert Online, Killer B, when they finally translate it into English (Korean game), it's supposed to be the best CC around these days. Saw videos and let's plays myself. Gorgeous indeed with morph effects and all.

All my EVE chars usually have the last name "Relden" FYI and Sylveria Relden just happens to be my "main" (eh, the one I spend the most time developing, you know how it goes) so if you ever do end up in game feel free to PM :) I actually never got into the exploration thing but always wanted to- scanning and stuff I learned but stuff like DED sites and all that I've never really understood. (missions were pretty straightforward in comparison)

(...)

Might as well put out a public notice and say "come gank me please!" for easy KM padding.

(...)

*disclaimer yeah I've been told many times that I shouldn't tie my alts together so people know who I am but I didn't set it up for "anonymity" so I really don't care. (and as I'm also fond of saying... "I'll start caring what you think  when you start paying my bills.")

i don't think people here are ganking sort ;)

exploration is the reason why i'm playing space-games in the first place (ahhh... Elite:Frontier /snif). pvp just ruins it for me but EVE is pretty balanced in that area. i don't mean nullsec owned by 2 corps, which pretty much means it's off-limits for people like me, but i was able to trash stealth bomber with exploration Heron in my brief Caldari career

My "main" is a Gallente/Amarr pilot mainly but can pilot up to T2 cruisers of almost any race- L4 in most skills and L5 where it counts (tank, guns, missiles, ships)

I mainly base out of Dixie - ran with a wormhole crew at the beginning, but the Alliance leader started getting greedy and moved us all from hole-to-hole until they hit C5's and couldn't possibly hold them because we just didn't have the numbers. After losing about 3B isk in a hole (stuff I had parked in hangar during an eviction) I went back to hisec and then did a brief stint with NSC in EVE Uni, which was interesting but soon learned that most of the people there really had no interest in "teaching" anything, for them it was more of a venue to get "gudfights". The group I started out with in wspace was a group of RL friends who did their own thing but soon many of them split off into the purely PvP Alliance corp and eventually it became empty.

If I had a group of 5-6+ people in a corp who were really interested in doing different things such as exploration, missions, etc. and really wanted to spend time with no pressure of any sort- I might be more interested in it. But constant pewpew CTA's and defending wspace evictions, etc really doesn't tickle my fancy. PvP I can deal with- but I'm not interested in measuring epeen on a regular basis (just not my thing, actually got burned out in DAOC) I just love to explore and experience stuff.

yeah, that seems to be common theme in EVE. at some point it gets boring and you cannot do much alone (or with handful of people)

And I agree that it was designed as an MMO- which I have no issue with. But to say let's cater to all the PvP masses while others with different play styles suffer is where I do have a problem- and I don't think I'm "alone" either, I actually tend to think the reason EVE's numbers have stayed stagnant and also suffered over the years is indicative of the attitudes of the "elite" PvP players who think it should be "their" sandbox, rather than everyone's. It's reflectively inherent in ganker attitudes toward industrialists, as well as others (carebears) and it's definitely where a game like Star Citizen will make a difference- not because there won't be "open world PvP" like EVE, but because it provides a venue for a lot more than a single-focus mentality.

Wow, that's just really sad. I'm hoping that's all they're not truly planning on offering with this patch.

I've said my piece as well- and at least we've gotten some communication from Bioware regarding upcoming patches and plans- rather than empty silence. Yes the patch is "light", and yes it fails to address some of the things we really want to be fixed in DA:I but at least we know they're working on it now and not just sitting around sipping brandies (although that could still be the case for some...)

Am I terribly happy or excited? No. But hey, chatting with everyone here is actually fun too :) I feel like I'm in great company at least :)

well, they're fixing stuff. it's not much of a patch, but it's something. something better than GotY tweets

My thoughts exactly. Less focus on marketing - more on actually making it enjoyable/playable for those who have issues.

I'm just worried the thread will devolve into meaningless bickering regarding priorities etc, instead of people having a little gratitude for the fact they're actually working on it. We don't have "control" over what they will address, but we do at least have control over our expression and self-respect.

I run princessstabbity.com if anyone was wondering where that article was going to appear that I mentioned. Since Bioware chose that very afternoon to pipe up that they were still working on the patch, I held off publishing it. I don't like to add to negativity; if they have their rears in gear there is no use in my lighting another fire under their butts. I have it waiting if we don't hear anything for another extended period, though.

serenai, after reading the patch notes for patch 3....

Publish that thing.

OK, maybe give it a week to see if a hotfix, or quick turnaround to patch 4, is announced.

How bout this guys:

Trust me, I am well aware of that and have followed pretty closely what those key issues are. I unfortunately can't talk about what's in the pipeline just yet, but will provide a future update as soon as I can.

How bout this guys:

I think it's pretty definitive as saying "We hear you, we know what you want"

And it's also pretty definitive that he's not able to discuss the plans, no matter how hard people are pressing/grilling him for information. I'm actually satisfied with that response, for now- but I know for certain if they don't address some major issues with this next patch, they probably won't "have" a PC community to worry about.
