GODzilla
My PSU is 1.2KW
It has 8 12 volts DC rail, with a big PSU, you are sure you are not going out of juice :-)
If you are building a gaming rig, the formula is how many 12 volts rails you got :-)
450 Watts is for a small rig, and to be safe 750 Watts is a safer bet :-)
Stop thinking of power bill :-)
Better be safe than sorry :-)
You could get a nice 750 PSU for around 125 dollars.
PSU is not something to not splurge on :-)
Yes you better dock :-)
So Nvidia has found a way to fic the GTX 970, they will do it via driver.
So a patch for a broken product :-)

We were just talking about you.  heh.. I think GODzilla is hidin somewhere. :)  The budget build I'm doing uses at full load 150Watts or so I won't need anything bigger then what I'm getting but what you are recommending is generally the best choice.

I'm laying down a foundation for a upgrade path later.  It'll do great for some light video editing, photo manipulation, and some light/medium gaming til I add a video card, and extra memory later on.  I'll probably settle either with crossfiring it with a AMD R7 250 or getting a AMD R9 270X, and 4 more gigs of ram.

A single Titan takes 380 Watts, let see a 450 PSU handle that :-)
It is all called OHMS laws people :-)
Yes I am an Intel girl, but do know how to put a rig together:-)
So I disagree with you :-)
In a nice way :-)

@MatrixGirl  I used to be an Intel boy back in the days of Pentium 75mhz but then I discovered the AMD Athlon Slot A 450mhz .. I've used AMD ever since.   :)  btw, at full load, Titan uses 380, it idles fairly low at around 140 or so.  You could boot up a system for a moment before the titans kicked up, and then the system would shut down due to lack of power.

Unfortunately, I don't  even come close to the recommended requirements for Witcher 3 with the desktop after said upgrades.. sheesh. :|

@MatrixGirl  You'll just have to let us peons know how good Witcher 3 is when it comes out.   :)

@GODzilla  Where did you go?

Exactly what I was saying :-)
PSU is like a condom better to have one when you need one, then not have one when needed :-)

@Peregrinus

I will as soon as it comes out in May unless they delay it :-)

It looks like it will have lots of potential:-)

Great analogy!  lol  You almost made me cough coffee on my keyboard.  heh

I think CD Projekt Red will release in may.  They pushed it back to may so they could Q&A it for 5 months. :)

Hey, so what is the patch going to do for the GTX 970's?  lock it down to 3.5 gig?

Of course there is nothing to say against a 750W psu when it comes from a quality manufacturer. But far too often do I witness people buying really shity psu from great companies like "X-Case" or even the good old evergreen..."NoName" lol. :D "There's a high number on it, it has to be good!!!"

Quality over quantity is the safe bet.

But yeah...when it comes to a Titan I guess all bets are off. xD Then you need quality AND quantity and then double that and buy two of them.

Huh? ^^

Sure sounds like it :-)
So they will set the driver to make sure it does not go past 3.5Gig
But Nvidia is not saying when they will release :-)
ATI took advantage of this and lowered their 270 by 1 hundred dollars making it in the 349 dollars price range :-)
And yes I am not an AMG it ATI girl
Will stick with Intel and Nvidia :-)
Not saying there is problems with AMD hardware, it comes down to performance :-)

well, for my rig 750 is overkill, currently. was planning to upgrade it a little at a time, though in a few months I might just splurge and build a 2nd custom job from ground up. can't do it myself anymore, don't trust my left arm, nerve damage.

Yep, I agree with you there.  The power supply is the most important aspect of system building. It's the one part that you don't want to go cheap on.  If it's a cheapie 480 watt that puts out 350 watts total, it's not a good sign.  :)

What kind of rig do you have now? What happened to your arm?

That is why I did not buy a cheap PSU
Enermax silent Pro Gold @1.2KW
Yes was close to 400 dollars PSU and now I have nothing to worry about :-)

True some people get caught up in the big numbers when it comes to PSU, but let say a PSU my size for 89 dollars , do you think I would suggest that to anyone or even buy one :-)?

This is really good brand to get if you start heading into the 1k wattage territory for power supplies. Great price too.

I've actually used a fair amount of EVGA, Corsair and Coolmax supplies but I do quite like Antec. I haven't used enough enermax but they look very high quality.

hmm.. did we scare everyone away with all the tech talk?  :(

Not the tech...but the voltage was getting higher and higher and I got a bit anxious about catching an electric shock. :(
