But Nvidia isn't any better with their current disaster and trying to sit it out, lying to everyone. So...Intel. Intel CPU and onboard graphics for the win!
Actually the integrated graphics processor already saved me once. I had a GTX 660 Ti before the GTX 760 but it died on me. My own fault even.
I replaced the malfunctioning standard cooler - which started to rattle just one single day after the 30 day period, where I could've easily returned it, ended - with a third party device. A good one even and I had some experience with this kind of modification, but the cooler was meant to be placed on a standard pcb. I had a Gigabyte GTX 660 Ti and they used their own pcb which was slightly off from the normal one. "Slightly" meaning that the voltage transformers where on the other end of the card lol.
I risked it anyway, knowing that the voltage transformers wouldn't get the cooling they really needed. Well it held for almost half a year before it broke.
Which was a funny story in itself: I was watching a cartoon movie, something about The Flash. Decent movie. There was some kind of climax in the story. He was running towards something, the music started to get louder and then BAM! Blackscreen. I thought at first this was meant to build anticipation for the following scene but instead my graphic card just broke.
For the following week all I had was the IGP of my CPU, but I must say it performed admirably. I played some old gems like Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition which I had gotten on Steam recently.
@Peregrinus
Latest news from Nvidia:-)
They are not going to fix the GTX970 it is impossible to fix with a driver or a firmware upgrade :-)
But wait a few weeks and the card will either be discontinued, or the 980 will drop in price drastically:-)
That is what me hardware dealer says since he will not sell the 970 anymore:-)
I want to believe!
That'd be great. I postponed the new graphic card until march and this month I will get a new power supply unit, one that is suited for modern graphic cards. I talked a bit to people who have a deeper insight into everything psu and voltages and they told me that while my current psu is good, it is not meant to cope with the voltage fluctuations of cards like the GTX 970 or even 980, at least not for long.
They would probably work and the overall power output of my current psu is more than sufficent, but there is the risk the psu will fail. So I decided to get a modern one. This one, most likely:

Getting it this month I can make sure it's stable with my current hardware and that I didn't get a "stupid one" (we call this a "monday modell" in Germany, something that was assembled on a bad monday where the dude who did it was in a foul mood and did something wrong xD).
Anyway...a PSU like this would run a GTX 980 without any trouble. So if the prices really go down that would be nice.
