While the non-mainquest-maps can be tedious and boring, Emprise du Lion really surprised me. Not many fetchquests, and if present then they are always ahead and along the way you have to go anyway. So no back and forth and repeat. A clear goal - fighting my way uphill, which felt challenging and rewarding, with the Inqusition camps being errected once I cleared an area. Liberating the rest of the map felt very satisfying (because it was closely tied to one of the main antagonists commanders) and his army and then in the end you get the big, fat keep. :)

Cool map outside of the awe-inspiring mainquest storyline.

And then the dragons...what battles those are. I defeated most of them on "Hard", some even on "Nightmare". The last one in Emprise du Lion was 2 level above me (23, my party was 21) and it was really, really close.

Even managed to capture the glory of this fight in a screenshot:

7cayjn8o.jpg

Was using some kind of multiple-fire-mine, but it definitely looked like out of a Francis Ford Coppola movie in Vietnam. :D

Conclusion: The concept for that map is very solid. I wish all were that good. Comparing it to the Emerald Graves for instance...so much lost potential on this map. These two big villas were lifeless and the second one, where they tried to put some horror into the game and failed miserably...

This ill agree with.. The last 3 zones wer eby far the  best.. Unfortunately, Hissing Wastes, and Western appraoch were two that i only half finished.. Emprise Du Lion thogh.. man that was fun!  THREE dragons??!?!!?  Hell yea!  I accidentally passed the 1st two, and stumbled into the hardest one in the game.. Got fried, asap!

Funny, idid the exact same thing.. When i stumbled onto him, i was just under 21.. He bumped me up the lvl ofcourse! Doing the two after him was a cakewalk! Too high lvl i was! Those three dragons got me from 20 to 22! And the gear.. man the gear!  The Dragons are the best part (in combat), with Inquisition..

For me, the hardest were the "electrical" dragons. Many heavy and medium armors and even the accessories to them lack defense slots for "cloth" and it is difficult to amount high numbers of electricity ressistance. Still I manage to get all of those who I chose to accompany me to around 40 to 60% ressistance.

For some reason though, electricity still deals much more consistent damage than fire (which is the second hardest) and ice (which was easier as both fire and electricty, by far in my experience). The three dragons in questions wiped the floor with my party. Those fights were insanely hard though I still managed to defeat all three of them on the "hard" difficulty. :)

so it begins.   :)

system%20build.jpg

I've built the AMD Kaveri machine and I made some discoveries.

Issue 1: In reusing a case I had, two of the 3 case fans are on their last legs. Thankfully the system doesn't need the cooling.

Issue 2: The hard drive I have is fragmented to hell. :)  It'll take time to defrag.

Issue 3: I had to order a second 4gb stick because Kaveri is crippled with memory only in one slot. It  needs dual channel to breathe.

Issue 4: I get this gut feeling that the state of the art hardware was built for Windows 8 and up.  AMD Mantle is pretty much broken, even with 14.12 drivers on Windows 7.  1 out of 4 tries into DAI caused a Mantle crash.  The game will fire up in Direct11 mode but it's pretty much unplayable because it spikes the 4 cores of Kaveri to 99% usage with GPU trying to pull all the memory it can from the 4gb pool causing the stutters and spikes in framerates.

Otherwise, the desktop runs perfectly in everything else I"ve tried. I'll be installing some other games and report back when I've tried them..

The problems do sound familiar though, eh?   stuttering, 99% CPU usage, Framerate spikes,

Mantle/DirectX issues.

ekk.. The old hard drive had 75% fragmentation..   oops.

update:  DOH!  "Also, suffice to say that you'll need to use two matching memory modules in order to utilise dual-channel operation, otherwise you're looking at an enormous drop in throughput, effectively crippling the APU."   I'm an idiot!  lol

my mother and I had to loan my sister a bit of cash (yes, I'm 31 and I live with my mother, or perhaps it's more like she lives with me), so it looks like I either wait to take my system in for a checkup, or I don't splurge on anything, like a new GPU... or even a replacement processor, or motherboard, assuming something's going bad. *sigh* my lot in life I suppose...

BTDT ... still there, still doing it.

Whether we want to admit it or not, there are more important things in life than having the very best/latest hardware for our computers.

We've got to take care of those first, and family is the most important one.

I was going to build a new system to start the year, but we really needed to take a road trip out to CA to see my in-laws (mother-in-law is elderly and not in good health).

That wound up taking most of our savings so I'm going to have to get by with a processor upgrade and more memory for now.

I will be replacing my Phenom II X4 with an X6 and doubling my RAM to 16gigs.

Also adding a second 1TB drive.

If that's not enough for TW3 I'll cross that bridge when I can.

Indeed, my adventurers are dropping like flies.

Death and insanity run rampant.

Nothing quite like having one of your party decide to hide at the back and skip their turn at a crucial moment!

I haven't managed to complete a single dungeon after the first ...

Oh man. I had a frustrating weekend with Inquisition. I was going to call Origin Monday for a refund, but a few of you pointed me into the direction of CheatEngine and Nexus Mods. I didn't bother to look there since most of the mods were just save files and character sliders. That's all changed. The game is playable using CheatEngine and DAI ModManager with a freaking array of great mods. There is also a mouse-mapping utility and it's buggy, but... if you can put up with random CTDs... you can play on Nightmare mode and play like Origins. It's just very, very fragile. I also noticed how lacking, utterly devoid, of tactics compared to Origins. This is so hack and slash. I knew it was bad, but having these mods just exposes how much further Bioware needs to go on FB3. It really does show that they clearly forged ahead with production with great intentions, but either ran out of time or still learning how to adapt to this engine. It wasn't finished. It also reinforces that this was an untested console port to PC. That video about PC Gamers is a complete misrepresentation of this game. It's not a finished product. I would've felt better preordering the game and waiting six months to a year after the console release to have a finished port that looks like it was modded for PCs.

I'm a forgiving sort, but I'm not blowing money on DLC until a patch is given to them. Even if it means waiting a year or two. When it takes that long, it usually means its in the bargain bin. I am out of passes for EAware.

You are much more forgiving then I. I can't remember the last time I saw CTD in a game til this.

I've also never seen a game that runs so poorly on a wide array of systems.

It's unfinished. Plain and simple. THEY ADDED A WALK/RUN TOGGLE IN PATCH 2 FOR MAKER'S SAKE!!! No one tested this with a keyboard and mouse. That very flaw should've been addressed during the porting process. They didn't overlook the issue because they either didn't give a crap about it or their QA missed it. They're also showing that after four years, they still haven't mastered the porting portion of it. This is so clear and they're still quiet about it because they're still behind the learning curve. Even after three months, this game still needs a lot of care and help from the modding community. I also have reached the same conclusion as many others feel: Bioware is dead. EAware is what we have now. EAware is still capable of making great games, but I'm holding out until the product is in the bargain bin. By then, at least, a few patches are already in place. It also gives the modding community time to fill in the blanks that EAware failed to address.

Hey, do what you need to do with life first. Gaming is a nice break from reality but it's always second to everything else, right?   :)  Don't let things bring you down.  Trust me, things can be much worse and I'm speaking from experience.

I actually didn't experience any CTDs but I also didn't get the game til about a year afterwards so I guess it was patched up. I had a few times where game froze up but that's very likely due to some of the mods I was playing around with at the time.

I preordered it, that was the first time I preordered anything.

If you ever need a replacement for your mouse I really recommend one the later Logitech modells. I use the Logitech G402, which is neither top of the line nor top of the price list. :D

You get plenty of reachable buttons - 5 additional ones plus the usual left button, right button, wheel button; total of 8 - and their latest software is what we always needed: Not only can you assign keyboard input to mouse buttons, which saves you the need for a mod or script in order to use all the mouse buttons in DAI. But they also finally changed how the profiles you set up for games are activated: Automatically with the game. You choose the profile and the games with which is activates and then you never need to touch it again or press a special mouse button to switch profiles.

It's still pretty much deves giving us the middle finger when there is no native support for more than the usual two mouse buttons (I mean seriously...mouse with two buttons...is it 1980s or even older than that?) but with a mouse like this we are no longer at their mercy at least.

I really recommend this mouse. Been using it for several months now, no problem, nothing has broken, nothing shows any sign of wear & tear. :) But I guess any of their current mice will do as long as they support their current "Logitech Gaming Software".

PS: I also wrote this not just to advertise the mouse (no I don't get money from Logitech...but I guess I should be xD), but also because I DO use mods and I DO use the walk script and my DAI is as stable as it possibly gets. I had like...one...random CTD in 150 hours or so. If it really just is that mouse script that is giving you trouble, maybe getting a new mouse is worth considering. :)

Hello all :-)
Happy Monday :-)
So will tell you guys a funny story :-)

Went out for a few drinks with the girls on Friday :-)
Here comes to our table a guy I used to work with :-)
So this guy knows I am a gamer girl :-)
So he asked me, have you played DAI?
I said yes for 7 hours, it was a piece of junk game, to which he replied;
Are you nuts, it is the best game ever made, then he proceeded to call me now let's get this right :-)

I am a game Elitist and my PC could not handle the game now that is coming from a guy who does not know the power house I am running :-)

So slightly insulted I asked him what kind of PC are you playing it on to which he replied;
I do not play games on PC , PC are for people who spend money on useless stuff, he told me I play it on a PS4 :-)
So I said you are a Bioware fan boy and a child with an idiot box and a controller:-)
GTFO of my face :-)

Me a PC elitist :-)
The world is full of idiots :-)
I felt like making him taste my stilettos heels in in private part that no girls has probably touched before :-)

Well, I approach the whole pc-versus-console controversy with slight disinterest on the one hand and a "live and let live" attitude on the other.

The irony here is that he may even had a point: With the sub-par PC conversion we got, playing DAI on a console probably is a good idea. Of course now things have changed a bit as we get the mods and the custom community fixes while they are stuck with their console version forever. :D

Still, I usually avoid hating towards console players. It is just not worth ithe hassle. ;)
