Hey anyone remember programming pixels on the C64 screen using BASIC and all that? :)

I really don't miss waiting for those tapes to LOAD and RUN though.

Essorance makes two of us :-)

I did play Skyrim was not bad until they fixed the 2 Gig ram barrier and the moders got a hold of it and fixed it. But I got bored quickly and never replayed it again.

So was a bit scared of DAI being such a large game :-)

But I am just in few hours into DAI and have no clue what I am doing yet, but I purchased the companion book for the game and downloaded the PDF on how to play the game I hope it will help :-)

Most people assume I don't read the posts in the main forums, and just reply to those that defend the game to illicit a response. It's actually untrue, I love reading what other people have to say about the game. Your probably as big a BW fan as I am (Don't tell anyone I said that). The only thing I wonder is will your disappointment be as big as mine after playing it?

I loved the open world. Ignore the PDF and put away the book. Explore. It's what I did. It's one of the more redeeming qualities of the game.

Nooooooo.  Don't feed the EA troll, dear MatrixGirl, please.

Never pay money for knowledge (except books). That's what the Internet is for.

I would advise you to return it and ask questions on this thread or elsewhere on the forum, you'll get more precise answers.

Or just do a quick search online (Gamefaqs is a good place for tips, usually).

For me it's probably one of the ONLY redeeming qualities, considering combat system with mouse and keyboard is completely atrocious LOL

Yep.

I also remember playing Dizzy the Egg. And Terminator, it took 8 minutes to load. I died, then it said it was loading to get to the game over screen. I think that was my first rage quit age 6 or so. I also played Hook. I don't think I completed a single game on the C64 except an overhead shooter which just looped the levels when you beat the last boss.

Yeah, my older brother did that. I started with the Amstrad 6128 (wasn't a Pc per se, was it?) myself and SEGA Mastersystem, anyone remember Barbarian...?

Shamus. I miss that Commodore 64. It was my only real escape during the cold winters up in New York. My favorite game of all time on the C-64 was Gunship! I was 15 at the time and in the AFJROTC. I left for the Army as a medic (I couldn't get security clearance because my parents are Cuban immigrants) and I was able to take it from post to post for a few years (no need for a monitor, just a television). Atari, Colecovision, Intellivision, etc. had all, but died from the market. Then the tiny PC market got huge. I bought a Nintendo system, but I knew then PCs were too flexible to keep out of the market. Short-sighted PC makers like Packard Bell almost tried to kill the industry, but custom-built rigs were never going to go out of style. I have built every rig from scratch (and taken them to shops to undo my ****** mistakes) and never looked back. It seems that the newer generations in the established gaming industry don't care about that at all. A console is a standard and you can build from that standard. That's smart and economical, but not avant-garde.

So... patch 3, rather disappointing - I expected an overhaul, but oh well... patch 4.

Curious about the walk binding, with all the jumping, ledges, and exploration in the game I can't live without both toggle N hold after I've been spoiled by the mod. Chances are I'll have to wait for 2flower to update his mod.

Alas I fall the same. Not that I'm angry or unhappy for anyone that it tickles. I too feel relegated to monitor the modding possibilities.

I just posted on the CE forum, 2flower - WE STILL NEED YOU! lol

Hell I hope he hasn't disappeared, he was a lifesaver for me and so many others. I won't be patching DAI even with the banter fix until I know my movement speed control is to standard, modded or otherwise.

Bethgael, I'm 44 also  :wizard:  and I introduced my young'uns to gaming as well. We have family gaming nights, and even with 2 moved out (have 1 still in the nest) we "gather" online to play things like Dungeon Defenders. The family that plays together, and all that.

And Sylveria, BASIC was how I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I'm still trying to grow up.. lol.. and I do NOT miss the cassette tapes.

serenai, after reading the patch notes for patch 3....

Publish that thing.

OK, maybe give it a week to see if a hotfix, or quick turnaround to patch 4, is announced.

lol!

I think it's pretty definitive as saying "We hear you, we know what you want"

And it's also pretty definitive that he's not able to discuss the plans, no matter how hard people are pressing/grilling him for information. I'm actually satisfied with that response, for now- but I know for certain if they don't address some major issues with this next patch, they probably won't "have" a PC community to worry about.

Yes, by Conal's comments, they know what is needed, I think. It's just going to take some time to get there, especially since the team has been gutted to go over to make the next ME. But I also agree with Sylveria that the longer they wait, the fewer people will be here (im)patiently waiting for the patch(es).

They've said before that they really can't announce what's in an upcoming next patch while it's still in the works because it may change before it's finalized. A bug might be too difficult to finish the fix or regression testing for it in time, they maybe can't find the fix at all yet, etc.. anything can change and if they list something and it's not in the patch then people are understandably upset. So while they have a roadmap, they can't disclose it until they're absolutely certain which fixes or changes will be in the next patch.

Hell, I'm still waiting on word from Allan about a game breaking bug some people are experiencing (being put in the character creator fade area instead of the dungeon with Cass after chargen) and I know it'll be a while. We just have to be patient, and hope they don't go dark again.

That's the thing that they really need to do - not go dark again. Communication is a 2-way street, and nobody likes to feel like they are speaking into the wind. As long as they consistently communicate, people will be a lot happier, even if the fixes they want end up taking a bit longer.

Tapes - Tape loader on C64. Like this.... http://classiccmp.or...t/h/petcass.jpg it's basically what we used to load software with... instead of floppies or hard drives, etc. Remember the old reel-to-reels you'll see in movies and stuff? Same principle.

Communications - I'm in complete agreement. I think that most people would settle for regular communications of "something" rather than absolutely nothing at all. I also tend to think that what people are most frustrated with in the communication process is the total lack of commitment to upcoming patches- they get that things "change", but there really does need to be some specifics they need to announce and commit to instead of leaving generalizations. It just makes it look like they have "something to hide" and if they are indeed on the level, there shouldn't be any cause for subtlety and generalization. They can still make it as "vague" as they wish, but giving people canned answers isn't going to reassure anyone.

Hello.  I have been on the Bioware forums since ME1, but only comment when I see something troubling in the games.

Although, I may not be around for the next BW title if they are going in the direction I think they are.

First BW title was KOTOR, which changed my outlook on western RPGs so much that I pretty much dropped JRPGS entirely.  Ofcourse, I fell in love with this company so hard that I had to find their older games and play them.  While I care a great deal about the problems of this console to PC port of a game, my main problems are with the direction the company is going in soecifically in story=telling and narrative.

Its nice to find some people that have been fans of BW since before ME3.  Most of the people that I knew swore off BW as a whole after how that was resolved - leaving me the sucker who came back.

I remember being in the Army (in the early 80's) and running puch cards through the sorting machine.

My first PC was a Heathkit. Remember that name? They'd send you a kit to build. My grandfather and I built my first computer that way. My second was a C16. A HUGE upgrade. Man was I excited.

I remember logging into BBS and playing Trade Wars on that machine. By the mid 80's i was using an Apple. And the first computer "graphical" RPG's were coming out. What they lacked in looks they made up for in story., Might & Magic 1, SSI DND, A Bard's Tale, etc, etc.

Man, we've come far.

Ever since you mentioned it, I'm really looking forward to the block on right mouse button style.  I've only played a few non FPS action games in which jump was not on my RMB, but the combat emphasis in this game gives me no issue with using mouse 4 for jump.

Now, IF ONLY WE COULD DO ALL THAT, I'd be ready to re-install.

I've often read that Archers and Mages (both ranged) have a much better go of the experience, however the only one I have tried is Archer (DW rogue is my fave too but.... sigh) and the experience was.... merely satisfactory? Not really sure how to say it- but it's almost as if I had to keep myself at range just because of the controls being so laggy/unnatural and not really being able to melee very well (gah! no autoattack!!!) etc.

I really have enjoyed my mages; my last game was an archer (I really want to post a pic of her because she turned out well--can we have a thread to do that? :D ) and I feel the same way. Not again.

On top of that, I had to double-left-click to get the archer to start shooting every time. Happened enough times (on the Player Character only--didn't happen on Varric or Sera on that game or any of the others) that I think it was a bug.

I did grit my teeth through my sword and board girl. Took me longer than it should have because I took a break every hour or so to rest my hands and my temper.

If it even makes it, the devs have not made any mention of even the slightest interest in mouselook/mouse button rebinding. It is very unfortunate. I can only cross my fingers and hope they realise how unintuitive it is to use block on a keyboard. All games released with swordplay has block on the mouse for a reason.
