First of all I'm just bored and thought what the hell. Second of all this is not a thread about sex, nudity, or any of that. So no warnings about this getting locked mmmkay lol :P.

I just want to discuss why there is no marriage in DA, except for very particular circumstances (Alistair or Anora for human noble in origins, Sebastian with the whole chaste marriage for femHawke) but we never see the actual wedding, aside from mods.

We have marriage and spouses and even children in other games such as Fable, and Skyrim. Now, these games are made by different people, yes. But I, like many others, would like the possibility of getting hitched to our LI's in DA.

Not all companions are marriage worthy tho of course, like, Isabela or Zevran for instance. But I think there are some who would be marriage worthy (Cullen and Cassandra to name a couple). What are your thoughts and feelings about this topic, and how do you think marriage (if not children) would work in DA for our Heroes, and why its not really an option?

I'm personally indifferent to this.  I don't need it personally (I only got married in real life because of the myriad benefits that it allows - like tax breaks and next of kin stuff), but it seems like there are others who want it.  I wouldn't be opposed if it ended up in the game.  I think it needs to make sense for a character and their story, but if it did, I don't see what it couldn't be included.  I'm also intrigued with the idea of s/s marriage.  Gaider once stated it would be anachronistic for the world, but there's a dialogue option where you can bring it up with Sera (and she does a spit take, iirc).  So, I'm not sure if it would ever be offered for s/s romance arcs.

Darling, I love you, and I want to spend the rest of our lives "married, filing jointly".

A proposal for the ages.

Children? *disgusted noise*. Nope, just nope.

Marriage has a little to do with love in DA universe, it mostly heritage, bloodlines and all that rot. I'm very happy there's no such thing, especially for Cass. Less for Cullen (and some others)  because he's not a noble at least.

I don't know if they should bring it in DA4, but I do know that it they will many people would be pissed if all relationship will end in marriage. Cause it's a big  "meh".

>Zevran not worthy of marriage.

Annnnd you lost me there. Apparently you're only worth being married to if you had no previous romantic history and immediately dive head-over-heels in love the first time you sleep with someone? What?

I don't think a certificate and a ring have any stronger impact on a relationship in Thedas than they do in real life, so I don't feel it is necessary whatsoever.

Why are Isabela and Zevran not marriage worthy? I don't understand this.

What would marriage add to Dragon Age besides a cutscene?

That sort of thing is saved for head canon after the game with happily ever after and fanfiction.

Marriage as a noble is such a hassle. You'll have to invite all your relatives. And nobody wants that.

You'll also have some very long lost relative who's branched out from the main family tree centuries ago and just remembers he's related. Who'll only show up because there's free food and important people.

Zevran is basically the only character who kinda-sorta-proposes ;) The earring he offers you is clearly a stand in for an engagement ring. You accept that (the second time) and it's clear that this is a lifelong deal for you two <3

Yeah, personally I wouldn't want it if my character couldn't get married to his/her lover just b/c they were both the same sex. Creators bless Skyrim, eh? But, it's Mr. Gaider's world, so if that's what he says, I guess that's how it is. That sort of inequality pushes me away from games though.

One thing about the S/S marriages is that there were two lords in Halamshiral who were most definitely together, and they appeared to be in some sort of union, so at least in Orlais, it doesn't seem impossible.

I just say they're not marriage worthy because they don't seem like the type who would settle down and get married. And marriage isn't just for nobles, anyone can get married lol.

Marriage and/or children wouldn't work in most circumstances in DA, I get that. But I believe the exception can be made for certain companions.

Yeah they were clearly lovers, and not clandestine; I mean, they were together. But I don't think they can be married (as of yet) in DA lore.

Yeah but I proved you wrong, at least for Zevran :P

And no, it wouldn't add anything to the universe or story except for a cutscene. But still, its there in other games with the cutscene and children to go along with it. So why not for DA? Is all I'm saying :/

Depends on what you mean by "settle down". If it's literally "sat on the as* at home, getting fat and doing nothing but having sex with the pc" then yes. But then again, I don't think either of our companions in all games would do that.

And marriage isn't just for nobles

Normal people can live just fine without it because it's not a pressing matter for them. They have more important and interesting things to do than that.

Ugh, just go play sims then. It was ugly enough with Morrigan and OGB already.

my questions would be, what would it add to the game? Is it worth the time? Is it just for fan service?

IMO it wouldn't add much, I mean the whole kid in the dwarf Noble route was intresting, but in the large sceme of things not really important.

It's funny how the only companion you can actually propose to is Sera of all people. Then again, see looks pretty fantastic in white.

Anyways, that scene does bring up the question of whether same-sex marriage is a thing in Thedas. Chances are the nobility wouldn't accept it because of matters of not having biological progeny from the coupling (which then brings up the question of why could that same-sex couple just adopt a kid and recognize her/him as heir) , but we still don't know how the peasantry would react to such a thing. Personally, I would think (and hope) they wouldn't give a damn.

I would to see a marriage is to be the final story based DLC for DA:I and used to basically to give HoF, Hawke, and Inquisitor and their various love interests a "happy" ending and basically be the end to all of their respective stories. I really doubt we'll see it for a lot various reasons but it would be nice to see.

Also remember that Sera calls the Inquisitor a "loony" for suggesting marriage.

Oh Maker that would be so tacky and sanguine..... but also so beautifully and heartwarming.

Yes, I want this so much! I'm tired of all the romances being just pre-marital sex ones. Inquisition was the first Bioware game where this wasn't mandatory, and really only because the writers left a couple open to interpretation of how intimate the couple is.

But Bioware seems to treat marriage as nothing more than a punchline.  -_-

Why the hell did he give my pc this ring for and why is he the only one with my commoner female dwarf on the other side of thedus?

Sorry if my Hawke want to make babies with Merrill. Why can't we have it as an option?

They treated to treated FemHawke's marriage to Sebastian with some measure of seriousness. It's just to bad that you have to get married Sebastian.
