Barrier with CD amulet = 20.4 sec CD
Upgraded barrier with CD amulet = 20.4 sec CD

Improved Barrier affects the strength, not the base cooldown of the Barrier. There are other passives for conditional cooldown, and other upgrades for decay duration of barrier.

Oh i see it now: "Each time a barrier you cast expires, the ability's cooldown time is reduced." So the base CD time does not change when upgraded. Forgive me! I never expected that one of the tool tips could be so correct and well worded. +1 for Bioware

Well, it's still not 100% correct. You get the reduced cooldown time immediately, instead of when the barrier expires. Casting barrier on all 4 party members with a cooldown amulet gives you a hilariously low downtime.

Not true. If you watch carefully in combat, you will see the cooldown reduce in large chunks as the barrier on allies runs out. Out of combat with the Knight-Protector passive, the natural decay of Barrier is longer than the cooldown of Barrier, so you won't see it.

But if you cast barrier on just yourself/one teammate, the actual cooldown on it is loooong. If you can get it cast on 3-4 people, it's much, much shorter. I've seen it come back up in ~5 seconds.

edit: I've seen it cooldown in large chunks like you're talking about, but I'm also pretty sure the CD reduction applies immediately, too.

Interesting. Perhaps a recast of barrier while previous barrier is on, counts as ending the previous barrier and triggering the Elegant defense effect? Need to test later.

Not sure about you casting Barrier on your own Barrier. I do know, however, that you casting Barrier on top of someone else's Barrier negates their Elegant Defense bonus.
