Does Anybody Actually Read The War Table Missions?

So, um. Yeah, just bought the Prima Collectors Edition Guide for DAI, checked in for my free ebook, and out of curiousity found myself at the war table mission thing. I play Elf Inquisitor.

So it turns out that if I chose wise wisely, I could have had my own dalish clan take Wycome and become its ruling body, and if I chose poorly, my clan would've been wiped out entirely.

And I was kind of like.

"What."

"....Jesus **** this would've been useful to know"

"What did I do in this playthrough **** shit."

I was wondering if anybody read up on the War table missions and not like, assign people to do them at random/whenever someone was free.

Not really. I just picked random options and messed with the Date/Time settings on my ps4 to instantly finish any operation I start. I just wanted the power and influence, along with any money and other rewards I could pick up.

I read them at first, but I soon realized that they really didn't change up the world or the story all that much.

That's the point were I just started assigning ambassadors at random.

Also the war table started to feel like it only existed to slow down gameplay.

But a few had some interesting effects. Like with the new recruit in the tavern. I forget his name.

I read them. But the one that pissed me off the most was when I got the Grey Wardens killed on my first playthrough.

Of course. I'd rather Leliana not cut out people's tongues or evict refugees at the behest of a selfish ahole noble. Availability and time to complete doesn't matter to me. Approach does. If I prefer the approach of someone who is busy I wait. I definitely don't choose at random.

You can get all the information you need to make a decision from the war table itself. Some require more discernment than others, some have unexpected results (which I like). Yeah the practical impact on the story more or less isn't there, but it provides insight into the world and an RP opportunity, which is an experience in and of itself. To me.

Yes

People think their pointless but you actually get some of the best rewards for choosing wisely. Choosing poorly just nets you 30 influence and little else

Being the head of an organization means managing it all not just thing you touch directly

Uh I try to read them, but I find if I take my time on the war table the game freezes and crashes.. hoping next PC patch I can actually take my time in the war room, because if I stay in it over 2 minutes it likely will freeze/crash.

I always read them. I like the adviser commentary (Cullen's in particular) and I always read the reports afterward.

I always do and that how I know how crazy Leliana is. One mission offering shoe to boost the morale of soldiers....the next stating the best way to deal with Minstrels spreading lies is to cut out their tongue....

She scares me.

Yeah, I always read them. Why wouldn't you? Many of them present interesting information, and I'm not sure how one would make an informed decision as to how to proceed if you didn't read them.

That said, reading them does not mean that you'll end up with the best outcome. It just means that you'll be able to make an informed in-character decision (or out-of-character, I guess, if that's your thing).

I read them very carefully in fact and chose carefully who to send on them.

Why? Because I always play paragon and having Leliana just go out and kill people and such doesn't really work for me. So yes I read them and was very careful who went where. The main issue I had was a lot of diplomacy missions where long so Josie was always tied up doing missions and I still had several for her to do by the end.

As someone who spent all of fourth grade in soggy shoes not fit for a rainy season, I can attest that proper footwear does indeed improve morale! To this day I still get distressed if my shoes get wet.

That aside, I agree, I side eyed her plenty of times.

I do the same thing. I found several of the plots to be rather engaging--especially the ones concerning DAMP characters. I love sending Belinda off to Maevaris and hearing about how flummoxed Tevinter magisters get when faced with 'real' templars. And Cullen complimenting Korbin for his handling of a sensitive situation. I think they add a lot to the story. Though I will admit that there comes a time late in the game where it's possible to run out of missions that don't take less than six hours to complete and that can be kind of a drag (especially when you're trying to do something like complete 'Before the Dawn' or 'Under Her Skin' and, if you're like me, you keep forgetting to hold back the appropriate advisor). xD

?!! There are table missions concerning DAMP characters?... 0_o

Now, that's new. Because I've played the game twice doing all possible table missions and carefully reading them....or that's how I thought...  :)

Yes!

You miss out a lot if you don't read them: they are small, witty, lovely pieces of writing, regardless of the impact they have in the World itself.

Plus, you don't really get to appreciate how scary stabby Leliana is until you read her proposed solutions. :)

There's not a big sign saying 'Oh by the way! Click me for DAMP Characters!' or anything like that. You'd have to pick the right options and know their actual names when you spot them. Took me a couple playthroughs before I caught onto it. :)

So far, I've only found Belinda Darrow (the Templar) hidden away in Maevaris' plotline. She's one of the templars who is sent to Tevinter if you choose that option. And Korbin (the Legionnaire) is in 'The College of Magi.' I want to say it's the College in Cumberland missions, but I'm not 100% on that. Tamar (the Reaver) is also mentioned...I think maybe in the mission where you can ambush the King of Nevarra's Venatori advisor? Rion (the Elementalist) is in the 'Investigate the Ruins of the Temple of Sacred Ashes' plotline. Cullen options, all.

I seem to recall Argent (the Assassin) being mentioned in a Leliana mission. Not sure which one, though. Maybe stealing the Liberalum? I'll have to comb my screenshots folder. I started snapping pictures when I found one. But that's only 5/12, so I do wonder if there aren't more out there.

Edit: Korbin is also in the 'Arl of Redcliffe,' Cullen option.

I read all of them... and I would appreciate it if my advisors would shut up while I do so. There's little I dislike more than people talking when I'm trying to read...

Meaningless small talk, most of the time not even funny or informative. They were making noise and distracting me.

Yeah that got a chuckle out of me. It's probably my favorite random comment from Cullen.
