2014 was bad for gaming.
Why am I evidently the only person who is able to see that 2014 was not a bad year for games? No better or worse than literally any other year.

Lets start:
1: Conner, how you handle him? blood magic? sacrifice? kill his mom? get mages? Multiple options and out comes
2: Elves vs werewolves again multiple options and out comes
3: mage tower: mages or templars who you agree with, companions can also die here and if you choose templars too bad you cannot help connor via mage route and dagna cannot be sent to the circle. Again multiple choices with more consequences which cut you out from options
4: dwarves again can you get golems? no geolems? forge destroyed? thaig found? Hell you can make branka kill her self with a dialogue if you do it right. a RPG where we can actually use *gasps* words to resolve a situation.
5: the entire landsmeet and how it plays out
All the outcomes also change what you have and their outcomes are visible right there in the game. You want blood mage spec sacrifice connor to get it since as lore says demons taught it to men. Want reaver side with the dragon fanatic cult.
most of your companions could die, killed off due to you choices. Zevran dead, leliana dead, wynee dead, loghain dead, sten dead, Oghren dead too. All of it was possible since you actually had proper choice and their consequences.
I am sorry but it looks like you have never even played origins to even realise why people say it was the best in the series, a RPG series which now is barely one. Even our voiceless wardens had more story and development than the beige inquisitor.
But dont you are dare say the current kids fantasy of a game we got can even compare in terms of C&C to origins and that is why people will always say it was their best game. As a RPG inquisition can barely be called one and its combat is significantly weaker than origins as well.
What bothers me is this :
1: Conner, Does it matter really? For DAO it does on the long run not 1 bit. If he's alive you can speak to him in DAI. (Not sure what happens if he's possesed/mom dies).
2: Elves/Werewolves, I can't recall seeing a difference in the end battle? No effect in the long run. (I always got them united). (you meet 1 in DA2 which you can save from elves, any effect on DAI?)
3: Mage tower, I never 'anulled' the tower so don't know, always saved the lot. Doesn't seem to matter in the long run either.
4: Dwarves, I don't recall seeing golems in the end battle? (it's been a while) But true that quest was awesome and yes i got her to destroy the anvil and kill herself once or twice and i also saved the anvil a few times.
5: Landsmeet, yes this was cool, choices actually affected the outcome, becoming King/Queen(-with Alistar) Loghain dead/alive/warden etc. So many options here.
I admit DAO will stay my favorite of the series. It had more depth and it felt like the dev team put their heart and soul into that.
DAO is perfect and I will never have that again. Life goes on (not really). That's how it is... even if we have new Beethovens or even people a lot better than him or Mozart today, it is not what radios are playing or people are talking about, now it is all about these Justins and Gagas. So what? If I ever need Ludwig I listen to him, or find something that sound like him, no use in crying because he is dead and gone. So that's how I will see Origins, a Beethoven, or a Mozart or a Schubert... always there for me and never surpassed.
Actually I am currently doing a DAO run right now, after playing DAI almost nonstop since it came out I needed a break from DAI but not from Thedas. Despite it's aged graphics and gameplay I am still having a lot of fun. I guess hearing all the references to DAO and DA 2 in DAI made me want to go back to the first two games

Don't you know, every year is a bad year for games. At the start of each year you have people proclaiming the previous year was a bad year for games (or just about anything actually).
Plenty of good games came out last year.
I'm replaying DA II at the moment. Feels different now.
I have a hard time replaying DA2 simply because I've played it through a zillion times already. It's like a song you get obsessed with and listen to over and over and over again until it's dead and buried to you..
Loved it, though! Wish I could erase my memory of playing it so I could play it new again.

Depends on what you like.
Some years are great for RPG, others for FPS, others for adventure, and so on...
If you're into Mass Effect you had 3 good years for games, perhaps one...
People in this forum have the bad habbit of discussing subjectivities. There is no way to go objective. For me a year with Wasteland 2 and Divinity is a great year, but he is probably talking about big titles then I do agree with him, wasn't a year of blockbusters.

Depends indeed on what you are into, but if all you are looking for is RPG blockbusters you are setting your pool to draw from really small.
If it's RPGs in general, we've had quite a few good ones.
If it's AAA releases in general there's plenty that did their regular shtick well and some new ones that did good as well.
As always YMMV, but I don't think you can make the general statement that 2014 was bad for games.

Yes I was talking "Pop" games AAA games. Yes This year have really great games like Telltales Game of Thrones I really waited and others. but in general all AAA games quality was horrible Destiny, AC Unity yes AC was already bad but still. And I can't believe it was possible to make worse DA:I than DA:2 but Bioware subsided. No tactics, bad combat in general, no hair, boring empty open world,...

1. You have two main ways of handling Connor (kill him/go to fade) and going into the fade to save him also depends on who you send there (you yourself can make a deal with the desire demon).
2. You get warewolves instead of elves in the last battle. It's a large game play difference.
3. Annulling the tower leads to a different end of the quest and templars in the last battle instead of mages.
4. Yes, you get Golems.
Inquisition's gameplay and controls suck. Actually makes it easier to go back to previous games. I'm gonna now replay origins and DA:2 to set up my next playthrough of inquisition- this time paying more attention to elven history.
Edit: Hopefully by the time I'm done with origins and DA2, Bioware would have patched Inquisition to make it enjoyable enough for me to actually want to play through it again.

DA2 was my first DA game and I loved it, and still do! In fact, after playing DAI I am more than excited to return to DA2 and try a new story and link it to DAI. I've also ordered DAO. I love changing up the story since it carries through to the next. You are writing your own story and not following someone else's and I love that!
I'm replaying DAO and this game just gets better with age
It's amazing
DAO is way better, how on earth is DA2 your favorite? DAI sucked, you had choices that mattered in DAO and DA2. DAI has zero replayability. I think the real reason you don't want to replay DA2 or DAO is because you'll understand how much DAI actually sucks.
You're trying way too hard.

This is getting seriously off topic, so this will be my response to this.
But, Alien Isolation, TitanFall, Far Cry 3 (though much of the same not bad), Wolfenstein TNO. Just a few of the top of my head.
I haven't been able to replay DA2 since I first finished it. It is that bad.

Hope you modded it, the new quanari sten and warden skins make a huge difference (as well as the hair mods)
We had fetch quests in DA2 too. And they were ridiculous.
To their credit, they lacked any real tedium. I always do them though because they're so brief and I rarely have to go out of my way to complete them, and of course because of the gold and XP, and Hawke's line: "Look what I found: your reason for living."
