I'm sure a few others will know what I mean, here. When things come to a head at Haven people start dying. Yup. As you start to get overrun with Corypheus' forces the game asks you to make choices on trying to sabe the people who have responsible for different services at Haven.

Threnn the Quartermaster

Flissa the Barkeep

Segritt the Vendor

Harrit the Blacksmith

Minaeve the Creature Researchist

Annan the Potions Guy.

As far as I could work out there was no way to save them all.

If you save Flissa then Minaeve and Annan die. If you save Annan first Minaeve will die. The timing is crucial.

The outcome, unfortunately, is not.

I spent like 40 minutes tring to work out a best outcome for survival at Haven, because I figured that losing crucial vendors and the like would probably have very negative repurcussions.

How narked off was I to discover that when I got to Skyhold it was all for nothing anyway? A little.

Every single one of these characters gets replaced.

Even if you save them.

They then wander around Skyhold being surly at you for having replaced them. Even though you did not choose to.

Am I the only one to feel a little bit cheated here. I mean Segritt's a *******, and all, but surely there's room in Courtyard for one more vendor? I've nothing against the Tranquil but Hellisma has like 3 lines of dialogue in the entire game. At lease Minaeve had something to talk about.

Why make a mini game out of saving them if they're not going to serve any further purpose?

I'd personally be in favour of having both the old guard and new working togerher in a best case scenario. If you'd saved them. They should be considered extra Assets to the Inquisition.

You can save them all. The reward is party approval, influence, experience, and that warm fuzzy feeling.

You can save them all and you'll get a varric approves if you do (some of the others might approve too, i just had varric with me at the time) I usually do it by letting my team handle mobs whilst i run off to assist the npcs.

Not all of them are resentful either, flissa and mineave are just thankful, i think adan is too. But it would have been nice if the poor chaps had something to do in skyhold lol.

The only one that I actually minded getting replaced was Threnn. Morriss just kind of annoys me. He should've been scooping my Ferelden Forder's manure in the stables. Cabot > Flissa, so I don't mind that she does work for the Chantry.

I've saved them all but immediately regretted saving Seggrit.  He's a bitter little sh*t.  I think if I remember, the only one who actually maintains their position is Harrit.  Theren moves on eventually, Mineave doesn't even make it to Skyhold apparently as she says she's needed elsewhere (or you're told she said this by her replacement).  I encounter Anan out in the garden.  Flissa doesn't ten the bar anymore and joins the chantry.  So all in all, there really aren't any rewards because only one of the people you save actually maintains their original position.  Seggrit deserved to get the boot though as if you stand and listen to him with the chantry woman in Haven, he's likely gouging all of his customers.

I saved all, and Vivienne approved. It's a timing thing, the moment somebody screams "Someone needs help!", abandon fight and help.

Timed just right, I save them all.

Seggrit, I would just as soon let burn because he's a greedy, ungrateful whiny little b**ch and Mineave makes it to Skyhold in my games and I see her wandering around from time to time, either in the courtyard or the Chantry garden.

As I see it, saving those people - they are your people after all - is its own reward. I would've liked to retain a few more of them though. It was particularly galling to be unable to retain Mynaeve.

I agree. At least Minaeve spoke to you when you handed in your research. The tranquil lady doesn't even give you a ''thank you''.

In my first playthrough I panicked and just butt-kicked my way to the Chantry.  When I watched my son playing I was devastated to see that you could save the villagers and I'd left them to burn.  How I laughed like a drain when I realised it didn't make a difference  Mind you, I'm on my second playthrough now and I've saved all their sorry lives, for what good it does me.

Totally. Hellisma just delives the same line about there being something for your attention. That's the line for a singke War Map mission for her. But after completing it she just keeps firing the same line of dialogue off about it, over and over.

For those saying that Minaeve leaves? Yeah, you're TOLD that. But I had her wandering around Skyhold, usually near and around the Garden, for the rest of the game. Hard to tell if that was a Bug or not.

Remember when you save Sutherland and his party?  'It's the Inquisitor, I knew she/he would come'.  He made me feel gooooood!

In theory, yes. But it's not enough just to free them. Because if there are any enemy units directly outside where you free them from, I believe they can still be killed despite your efforts.

It's basically just to make you feel good about yourself if you managed to safe them all. Also, the dwarf at the Skyhold bar is much nicer to you if you managed to safe Flissa, so are people in general. But yes, gameplaywise you don't get much out of it really.

I only saved Segritt once. Only. Once. And what did I get? He bitching about the fact that he lost his job and being a rasist ass towards my elf Inquisitor.

Nah, that shithead doesn't deserve to be saved, approval points or not :I

It's possible to save them all. I've done it twice. With Flissa, I run past the mobs straight into the tavern. With Adan and Minaeve, you have to go for Adan first, immediately, then jump over the burning pots to save Minaeve. With Segritt, it's best to have your warrior do it because you have to hack your way out. Although I forgot one time and discovered that it's possible to hack your way in from the outside. Threnn and Lysette are fairly easy.

Mindblast works on the crates too. And you only need to use it once.

They're a quirky bunch. I love doing his table missions!

The option to save them was put in so the BW fanboys could laud the game for it's incredibly diversity and show us that "our decisions truly impact the gameplay".

As I recall, you get an extra merchant for Skyhold if you save Segritt. At least, I've only gotten him on those playthroughs where I did save him.

For once, I'm actually enjoying the mage class the most out of the three. I enjoy being exclusively lightning, though that does make fights with lightning dragons a bit more interesting.

They actually feel badass (Knight-Enchanter all day). I miss Crushing Prison and DA2's Mindblast though. Mindblast was so awesome in DA2 you could run into a crowd and use it offensively.

You get the 2 merchants no matter what happens to Segritt, the influence merchant shows up after a war table mission and a 4th is unlocked through perks.

I am talking about the guy next to Bonnie. I have the same perks for three of my characters, but only the one who saved Segritt has that one. The other two characters have Bonnie and the influence merchant.

I felt cheated. It would have been nice if whoever you managed to save kept their positions at skyhold. I mean wtf guy's, all that effort to save you and you're wandering around like a lost idiot, GET BACK TO WORK!

My first play I didn't bother saving anyone, after seeing their replacements though I was kinda bummed so I re-loaded and made every effort to save everyone of them. Talk about anti climax.
