I felt cheated. It would have been nice if whoever you managed to save kept their positions at skyhold. I mean wtf guy's, all that effort to save you and you're wandering around like a lost idiot, GET BACK TO WORK!

My first play I didn't bother saving anyone, after seeing their replacements though I was kinda bummed so I re-loaded and made every effort to save everyone of them. Talk about anti climax.

I wouldn't mind this. With the exception of Seggrit, of course. He doesn't deserve his job back. Ever. I would however, given the chance, kick his sorry, ungrateful, racist rump out of Skyhold.

They actually feel badass (Knight-Enchanter all day). I miss Crushing Prison and DA2's Mindblast though. Mindblast was so awesome in DA2 you could run into a crowd and use it offensively.

Yeah DA2's mage was a riot. I didn't really grow to appreciate it until I took Bethany in Legacy late in Act 3, and had enough points to max out her Force Mage skillset. Watching her ragdoll those Carta dwarves was very satisfying. But yeah, I enjoy my Knight-Enchanter Inquisitor the most, and I'm finally settling on a mage to be a canon character in my DA timeline.

As for mindblast, that was always amusing, that and the telekinetic burst of the Force Mage tree.

As I recall, you get an extra merchant for Skyhold if you save Segritt. At least, I've only gotten him on those playthroughs where I did save him.

No, the extra merchant is for something else. I've never saved Seggrit, no idea where he is.

It is race and/or class dependent then. I have him on one of my three characters - not that he has much for sale, a couple of uniques.

Why?

Why, why, why?

To be a good person and/or receive potential brownie points.

But yes, the process seems pointless when they roam around Skyhold like lost sheep, complaining. "This sucks, screw you Inquisitor. But thanks for saving my life."

I'm sure a few others will know what I mean, here. When things come to a head at Haven people start dying. Yup. As you start to get overrun with Corypheus' forces the game asks you to make choices on trying to sabe the people who have responsible for different services at Haven.

Threnn the Quartermaster

Flissa the Barkeep

Segritt the Vendor

Harrit the Blacksmith

Minaeve the Creature Researchist

Annan the Potions Guy.

As far as I could work out there was no way to save them all.

If you save Flissa then Minaeve and Annan die. If you save Annan first Minaeve will die. The timing is crucial.

The outcome, unfortunately, is not.

I spent like 40 minutes tring to work out a best outcome for survival at Haven, because I figured that losing crucial vendors and the like would probably have very negative repurcussions.

How narked off was I to discover that when I got to Skyhold it was all for nothing anyway? A little.

Every single one of these characters gets replaced.

Even if you save them.

They then wander around Skyhold being surly at you for having replaced them. Even though you did not choose to.

Am I the only one to feel a little bit cheated here. I mean Segritt's a *******, and all, but surely there's room in Courtyard for one more vendor? I've nothing against the Tranquil but Hellisma has like 3 lines of dialogue in the entire game. At lease Minaeve had something to talk about.

Why make a mini game out of saving them if they're not going to serve any further purpose?

I'd personally be in favour of having both the old guard and new working togerher in a best case scenario. If you'd saved them. They should be considered extra Assets to the Inquisition.

Hah, i left them to Burn on my second PT, usless filler to make the fight interesting, they don't bring anything to the party along the way.

Segritt gets sacked for losing the wares, at least that's the impression I got after talking to the masked female vendor, so it was not really in your control, they have some sort of guild or something.

They shouldn't had made Minaeve killable, though, she is awesome. I like the tranquil woman that replaces her too, she is kind of depressing, but she is no Minaeve.

Annan  never wanted the job anyways.

You need to use your tactics to save them all. Before you go into the bar, use the tactics to send party members by the other two. Then go in, save filsa, pause and select the character now standing by one of the others, save them, then switch to the other .

He's in one of the buildings to the left hand side of the Chantry, if you walk down towards the next tier of the area. You have to bash the door in, because stuff has fallen in front of it trapping him in there.

Ain't that the truth. :(

Minaeve is a puzzle, like I say. The game tells you se's left, but she's still wandering around skyhold. Mind you her replacement is also bugged. Once she gies you her War Map mission she will use the same sound clip of something needing your attention every singe time you speak to her from that point on.

Mind you nothing beats the Glitchiness of the Tavern bard. Playing without an instrument. Having a quest icon, but no interaction. Appearing in every tavern you visit.

Hmm never noticed this, will check. I remember her thanking  me (in her own way) when I did the mission.

About the bard..... this been puzzling me a lot, because I swear I was able to talk to her once, but never again in any pt, I was starting think I dreamed the whole thing.

As I see it, saving those people - they are your people after all - is its own reward.

Apply that logic to all other side quests that give rewards, and you should immediately see the apparent flaw in your argument.

Varying degrees of approval from random companions is great and all ["yay for that"], but seriously, losing those initial support npc's for unknown replacements was an odd choice from the devs. I felt like the option to save them during the attack on Haven amounted to a slap in the face, based upon what happened with them later at Skyhold. Harritt continued in his role, even after the arrival of Dagna; so what was the problem with using the others????

Those are our "people" and why they later serve no purpose, only to be replaced, made about as much sense as .......... well, it doesn't make any sense at all?

I get that it's easier to put new npcs in those positions but I wish the Haven people had been given something to do in Skyhold other than wander around complaining that you saved their lives.

Flissa could be in the bar waitressing, Adan and Minaeve in the Undercroft working on their own projects etc.

For once, I'm actually enjoying the mage class the most out of the three. I enjoy being exclusively lightning, though that does make fights with lightning dragons a bit more interesting.

hmm
That would be rough for the 3 electric dragons

Or you can just add Spirit dmg rune to the staff, that always works well against dragons. falling into the misconception that you always need a vs dragons weapon is very limiting when there are other alternatives.

It's possible to save them all. I've done it twice. With Flissa, I run past the mobs straight into the tavern. With Adan and Minaeve, you have to go for Adan first, immediately, then jump over the burning pots to save Minaeve. With Segritt, it's best to have your warrior do it because you have to hack your way out. Although I forgot one time and discovered that it's possible to hack your way in from the outside. Threnn and Lysette are fairly easy.

You can save both Minaeve and Adan starting with Minaeve- just did this last night- but I find it tough to save both of them no matter how you do it.

You can use tactic mode to tell another character to go and hold position next to say Minaeve while you are rescuing Adan, then when done, quickly switch to that character and help Minaeve.

As in rely on Hold? I tried it that way once and Sera kept running off, I ended up losing both Adan and Minaeve.

Hmm... it works for me? I define the spot then press hold and exit the tactic mode. Then use another character to run to Adan manually.

But even so, from some of my other attempts where I didn't used hold, I've noticed that if you use tactic mode  to make a character move near Minaeve, they usually don't have enough time to move too far away from that spot.  I always save Adan first, it seems to be a straighter line (less time needed).

I think the point being made is the party commands refuse to work outside of the tactical cam view, and even then the idiotic Ai still wander about like headless chickens at a KFC gala.

If you don't recruit Bonnie in Val Royaulx does Sigritt still get replaced

In non combat setting it works outside tactic mode too, I'm kind of inclined to believe that :

a)in non-tactical combat AI somehow overrides the command (self-preservation bug?)

b)in other cases the UI (at least on PC) is not functioning properly, but I've found that you can always check if it's "on" by pressing pause.

I've fallen off way too many beams and "hold" is the only solution to this problem. People are complaining that they can't kill companions, mine companions are out for my blood every time I get into a tricky position.

What race/class did you get the third merchant with. I've saved Segritt and gotten the third merchant with my mage and my warrior. I did not save Segritt with my rogue and it was just Bonnie and Farrel. The rogue was a dwarf. The mage and the warrior were humans.

Elf/mage:nope - no save; Human/mage:yep - save; Qunari/rogue:nope - no save
