Hmm....I always thought he was a guy that appeared after a WT mission

He might be, but I have only gotten him once (in my three post-Haven playthroughs).
It's easy to save them all. Just don't run around willy nilly. Seggrit's a little bitter about being replaced, but he's still nice enough about it to the Inquisitor.
It's about timing - pass off on fighting to revive them. Adaan/Min aren't in danger until the alchemist hut catches fire, which it WONT until you get too close.
I can always save all of them, though lately I've stopped saving Segrett because I have to backtrack to get him (ugh) hack away at a door (augh) and then he sounds like he hate you MORE despite saving him, because someone else took his job.
Best bit I found is that no one even cares, when you ask Cullen who was lost he never mentions him - Bonny is the only one who recognises it.
EDIT: Oh wait, yes Harritt does too (thanks Kaiser).
I saved them all and varric greatly approved.
Yeah, there's no special trick to saving them. The quest ( and thus timer ) to save someone only triggers when you get close to the area they are in. So just don't rush forward willy nilly. Clear enemies then advance.
i agree, i liked the girl at the tavern and Minaeve for example, i wanted them to work with me.
And that isn't even a hard thing to do, whoever dies, gets replaced, if they don't you keep them at their jobs, really don't know why they did it.

What race/class did you get the third merchant with. I've saved Segritt and gotten the third merchant with my mage and my warrior. I did not save Segritt with my rogue and it was just Bonnie and Farrel. The rogue was a dwarf. The mage and the warrior were humans.
I'm assuming the merchant that is in discussion is the one that sells Siege's End, and I've only gotten him twice myself(out of three playthroughs thus far). He either shows up the moment you have access to Bonny Sims, or he never shows up at all...
I'm in agreement that it's Segritt's survival at Haven that determines whether or not said merchant shows up, because the only time he didn't show up, for me, was when I did not save Segritt(playing as human rogue). My other two playthroughs were Elf mage and Qunari Warrior, and as I said, the merchant selling Siege's End showed up both times(and both times I saved Segritt)...
I had no idea what I was doing the first time I played and pretty much everyone died. I was kind of bummed.
Then I came to the forums and found out they all got replaced anyways, and didn't care anymore.
yea, I definitely think this was one place Bioware dropped the ball. Those characters have so little dialog, there's no reason they shouldn't have been able to have them keep their jobs if they lived and been replaced only if they died.
i always let segritt die, never saved him, i could tell he was racist a scumbag. I also thought it was lame how they were all replaced anyway, so much for "choices", this is just another example of how shallow the game is.
As in rely on Hold? I tried it that way once and Sera kept running off, I ended up losing both Adan and Minaeve.
Likewise, the first time I tried. The problem with the Hold command is that it so very rarely actually works. You use it, but the likelihood of your followers adhering to it seems like 2 in 5 chance. The Hold command was reliable in the previous two games, in Inquisition it just isn't.
I think the point being made is the party commands refuse to work outside of the tactical cam view, and even then the idiotic Ai still wander about like headless chickens at a KFC gala.
Pretty much. The distance it stretches to is also not enough. I find it very difficult, for example, to stretch the tactical camera to include both Flissa in the Tavern and Addan and Minnaeve up by the Potions Hut.
Plus even if you DO save them they still die at the hands of the Red Templars. It's very annoying.
If you don't recruit Bonnie in Val Royaulx does Sigritt still get replaced
That's a good question, actually. I've never tried. Recruited Bonnie Mae during the first Val Royeaux meeting in both my playthroughs to date. Anybody not?

The trouble with that logic is that the waves of enemies are infinite. They will keep coming.

Totally agree. It's a real shame that it's not an option.
Yes, Bonny arrives regardless. First times I went through Val Royeux I never realised you could even talk to that lady - assuming you mean the 'nobody is DOING anything!' lady.
Bonny arrives regardless because they are different people voiced by different actors but who for some reason wear the same outfit.

They would've had to record two sets of voice-overs in that case. Technically it's easy, but every little thing costs.

True, I recruited her in my first playthough (human mage) but my subsequent playthrough (human warrior) I couldn't even find her in VR and thought I'd somehow screwed it up. She turned up though, along with the new merchant which was a pleasant surprise, not that I could afford any of their badass weapons and when I could afford it I could make better ones
. I inadvertently let all my villagers get barbecued in the first playthrough so I assumed that I got the new merchant because I had saved them all, but my son saved every villager first time round and didn't get him.
I didn't save Seggrit in my Qunari Mage playthrough. Just opened the door and watched, worth it. The rest I always tried to save. And too bad Minaeve doesn't stay as the creature researcher, her accent is oddly alluring to me.

Well it's not like they're people with their own lives or anything ![]()
I thought people liked having choices? Well there you go, its up to you to decide whether you want to abandon these people or not. While you're roleplaying, do you want to save them all? Or maybe save a certain character you like. Or just skip them deciding their lives are not worth your time, viewing this decision however you want (ruthless, pragmatic, 'evil', didn't have a choice, etc...)..
Well it's not like they're people with their own lives or anything
They're supposed to enter a contract agreement upon the moment of their rescue.
I, the non-player character in distress, hereby swear my services to the protagonist for the duration of their journey. These duties shall not be delegated to other non-player characters without the protagonist's expressed permission.
If you agree to these terms, please say 'Thank you for saving me', or a phrase to similar effect.

To my understanding he is linked to Power for a Price WT and will appear if you choose Josephine for this mission (maybe).

Isn't the influence trader linked to that mission?

Aren't we talking about him? *confused* How many traders are there?

At least I am not talking about him, I get him every time. I am talking about the merchant who appears next to Bonnie.
sad thign is:
if seggrit you lose one of the potential merchants at skyhold
and that SUCKS

Oh, it is weird that you don't get him. I thought he was there by default, I got him as human mage and as human rogue.
(To make sure we are talking about the same thing again, Skyhold has 3 vendors including the influence one, right?)
