This is why BSN has a bad rep, can't have a single thread without people tracking mud around ranting and raving about how the endings are the holocaust and bioware is literally hitler. How about we all stick to the advice op asked for and leave your hate for the game at the door. Op didn't ask what anyone thought about the ending, in fact op said they ALREADY KNEW about the ending, and just wanted advice on what dlc affects the ending. If you want to spew off about the ending, maybe you could start your own thread about it.

Just play up until Priority:Earth, then do the DLC missions(in order), then read about Drew Karpyshyn's "Dark Energy" plotline that EA dropped, get pissed, then play Saint's Row IV.

Why would they get pissed about Karpyshyn's plotline?

It had the Reapers becoming even bigger good guys than they were in ME3's shipped ending, and would've concluded with a broader ham-fisted decision about whether to sacrifice all of humanity or doom the galaxy to extinction. All for "techno-science magic reasons".

As to the OP: grab the Extended Cut and all DLC except Omega, which you should wait for a price-drop before buying that one. It's better than it gets credit for on this board for a number of reasons, but the storytelling's a little stiff and there are a few noticeable bugs. I prefer to space the Leviathan and Citadel content out throughout the game once they're available instead of tackling them in one fell swoop, saving Citadel's grand finale for right before the obvious string of final missions.

I don't go into the hate threads because I'm tired of those discussions. You're the one of the ones bringing that in this thread, when op didn't ask for that. If I were bioware, I'd also be pretty tired of people who are so-called "fans" yet do nothing but post the same tiresome complaints for two years straight on the forums. Here's a not-an-edit for you, I'm not being passive aggressive, I honestly got a good laugh out of your post. I thought it was funny so I gave it a like. I don't care if you like my posts or not. By far the best thing you can ever get.

 

Aside from that get:
Extended Cut (works perfectly with MEHEM)

With the MEHEM that is all you need!! If not, you will prob need Leviathan too.

 

Then, if you feel up to it get Omega. Personally I find citadel DLC (I didn't buy it but I saw it on YT) to be a bit over the top. The tone of that DLC makes NO sense given the tone of ME3. It is a DLC more fit for ME2 rather than 3.

The Citadel DLC is the most fun, mainly because its the perfect wrap to the trilogy. 

Omega is fun but doesn't add to much, except for some cool weapon mods and a few guns you couldn't get anymore. 

Leviathan was cool in how it was implemented. 

From Ashes is short, but its worth it just for the gun.

and then laugh your ass off to the horrible fan fiction that is MEHEM. I definitely wanted a better ending but MEHEM is exactly what I feared I would get when I originally bought ME3. It's just painfully cliche and tonally out of place.

The extended cut is more than just context and clarification. It significantly makes the endings feel less drab and depressing. It has closure. I still feel the wound from having experienced ME3 on launch with that horrible and unfulfilling ending. The extended cut adds just enough to make the journey seem a bit more worth it.

Actually, try JohnP's Alternate MEHEM. It gets rid of the fanwank rescue scene and the terrible voice acting, and uses the voices of the actual VA's, carefully chosen and very short clips that make sense in context.

I find it's no more out of place than the endings we got, and actually less so since it replaces ::redacted:: which improves the endings by order of magnitude right there.  The new ending might be cliched, but cliched is a hell of a lot better than what we got (imo)

 

And as Starcloud pointed out, there's JohnP's Alternate MEHEM which has much fewer alterations but still holds on to what makes MEHEM so popular.

You're still choosing to live a lie though. You can create a dream ending to make up for something you didn't like, but that doesn't change that it's just a dream. The reality is that the current endings happened, and may continue to happen. Especially if the Catalyst ever makes a return appearance. And considering ME4 takes place between events, that's definitely a possibility.

I understand that.  And accept that risk.

 

But the MEHEM ending is the ending I choose, given all the options available to me.  MENext may not allow for it as an ending.  But in that case I will simply not get the next game. 

 

But for now, I will hold out the hope that they will allow enough flexibility for people to keep it as their ending.  Just as Kaidan/MaleShep LI content was included on Mars in ME3 even though a romance between the two was only possible via modding.

Wait. You´ve played ME1 with the "f*** Sovereign - I´m alive" ending, ME2 with the "f*** the collectors - I´m alive" ending and then bought ME3 fearing you get a "f*** the reapers - I´m alive" ending? How did you manage that? It was the only thing I expected (before I played it).

This is what MEHEM is about (imo).

Guess it´s too late, but From the Ashes, Citadel (no matter how you feel about ME3 story, but who plays ME1 to 3 and doesn´t want to hang around with the squadmates?) and Omega. Leviathan is cool, but would be my first choice to save money. OP, what did you buy and did you finish ME3?
