So is putting your personal feelings for servant above your duty as empress and rejecting a marrage that would have prevented civil war.

Who said it was about personal feelings? It had nothing to do with that. Celene and Gaspard what to different things for Orlias direction. Marrying Gespard would conflict with that plan. Remember, she was ready to marry the king of fereldin and a woman who is only into other woman.

Well, if she is that dependant on Briala, then she shouldn't be empress in the first place.

Long live Gaspard!

Try again. Now what going to happen to thedus after he becomes Emperor?

Since when is it the duty of a Monarch to turn a proper suitor for a fling?

Do you also oppose Anora? She doesn't marry anyone because they don't fit her standards if she rules, especially since she doesn't have an heir.

Celene or Gaspard? Whichever one I can use as a puppet ruler for Briala so she can improve the lot of Orlais' elves.

Apparently you have to complete 12 Impossible Tasks in a specific order to get Celene and Briala to reconcile, which my characters wouldn't know how to do without meta information from me, and which I can't really support anyway since I've wiki'd a little of what their relationship was like in The Masked Empire, and I think it's too toxic to put back together. Plus, apparently Celene butchered 3,000 elves in an alienage when her own power got threatened and knowingly ordered/allowed the murder of all the elves in her palace (including Briala's parents) while sleeping with Briala, whom she often gave grief for being elven and dark-skinned anyway. Wow, I cannot support her.

Gaspard isn't much better. He's more up-front about being a power-hungry jerk, but he's still a power-hungry jerk. And a militaristic one who seems keen on regaining Orlais' lost military conquests, and is openly racist and disdainful of Briala for being an elf. I'm all too happy to give him the throne he wants... too bad he didn't specify that he wanted to be the one in charge. Oh well, sucks to be him. The elves of Orlais have a future again, and that's what I care about.

From what I  can remember shes tells Briala that she rejected because it  meant she would loose her

Well, if Gaspard is dependent on the Inquisition to keep the peace in his nation, then he shouldn't be emperor

Long live Celene!

Despite Celene's actions, find her better in the long run. Celene managed to turn a ruined Orlais into a powerhouse again because her predecessor nearly ruined Orlais BECAUSE of a war. Celene supports culture as shown by the University which a traditional ruler wouldn't have supported. Celene supports peace and in the long run would be more stable considering the endings where she is opposed are a result of her fighting Briala or Gaspard, not her own people. Her best endings make Orlais resurgent with culture and rights for elves if you reconcile her with Briala or if you execute Briala and Gaspard, Orlais prospers and soon goes back to how it used to be.

Gaspard on the other hand has no use for diplomacy. As far as he's concerned, force is the only way to do things. Very few people at the ball actually support him. Gaspard outright says he plans on invading Ferelden and he plans on killing people who oppose him as shown when he makes death threats to council members, his comment that things will calm down after some executions, and his ending where he kills people who oppose him. His ending outright says it's only a matter of time before a revolution occurs since killing anyone who disagrees with you can only work for so long.

If you support peace, choose Celene.

^This.

Celene and Briala 100% of the way.

All Gaspard is a bully and a warmonger and I have zero use for a bully and a warmonger.

Ever since Orlais adopted an absolute monarchy.

Not so much getting cowed as accepting an advantageous political marrage that kills 2 birds with one stone.

"Fulfill my whim and I won't start a civil war" - that is the definition of being cowed.

Then, of course, there's the assumption that the marriage will be advantageous beyond the immediate short-term.

It's competely false.

I saw this oak on tumblr, and I can assure you this never happens in the book. Someone spread this rumor based on a misquote.

Nah it was more off a "together we can save this empire" thing.

Celene even admits it would unite Orlais

She does when she first meets her as a kid. As an adult she looks at all that goes...."Yum, all that is mine."

Yes, a direct quote from Gaspard, right before he threatens her for turning him down. Effectively, it's the exact same thing.

He merely pointed out that she was without her protectors and put a hand on her shoulder to reassure her, before being attacked by the vicious usurper.

No, here is the quote, she made a (not so nice comment) about Briala's hair as a kid, but there is not one single instance in the book where Celene belittle Briala because of her complexion.

That confirms what I just said. Key statement..."Back when we were children"

Do you not know what that means?

"I would lose you... Bria, you're all I have."

In fairness she is referring to Remache, but its fai to assume that the same reasoning is behind refusing big G.

And refusing Remache is another time whn she puts herself first.

Okay. I was merely pointing out the supposed comment about her skin (which never happens) when she spoke of Briala's hair when they were children.

I chose to make the three work together. Reuniting Briala and Celene has some strong moral dissonance in that one from both sides, considering that both chose duty over love in the book, and putting them back together from a player perspective (and not the Inquisitor one) is just kind of...yeah, no.

Putting Gaspard on the throne is like making George Patton king, except he doesn't exactly quite measure up to Patton. Still. Seemed like a bad idea, probably is a bad idea. Gaspard lacks the tact to play the Game well, which is why he lost the bid for king in the first place.

Her comment is about how Barla sees her own skin, not how she sees her skin. The fact Celene says her shin is pretty makes it clear she has no issues with it.

Seriously: There is no "right choice" here. In terms of practical benefits for Orlais, the best "seems" to be Celene and Briala reunited. In terms of RP, it is simply who you think is better.
