Just my 2c

I just finished my second play through of DAI.  First one was a human female with an awful 70's feathered hairstyle that romanced Cullen and sided with the mages.  The second was a human male that romanced Cassandra and sided with Templars.  I enjoyed the game, but I just come out feeling, meh.  If it were written like DAO, and had the same game play mechanics, I would still go back and do a few more run throughs - A Qunari female, a guy to romance Dorian, another female with modded hair that doesn't look horrible, do some character and armor mods, ect.

I just don't have it in me, though. With DAO, I felt like there was still more to discover, and different ways to play my character. The ability to have mods also gave the game tremendous replayability.  I have the Ravage mod installed with the level 50 level cap mod.  I get to use a whole array of spells and abilities and I am still getting my butt kicked on nightmare.

With DAI, I just think about wandering around doing more boring quests  and nothing new to be found. Same 3 boring armors no matter what class I'm playing. I don't even know what is happening during combat 3/4 of the time, I can't see my character because he is lost in all the flashy animations, nobody does what I tell them to, so I gave up.  I'm just mashing buttons.

That's right, I'm a dinosaur  living in the past, but it's sad for me.   This game had a lot of wasted potential, I really liked all of the companions, but it is just boring.  I was doing a DAO runthrough right before this game came out, and now I'm back to it.  I might even give DA2 another try - at least I can still use my M&KB with that one.

It's a good idea. I had so much fun playing it. Now I'm trying to force myself to believe that I could enjoy DA:I as well, but I can't.

US OLDER TIMERS KNEW WHAT IT MEANT TO PLAY A BIOWARE GAME

NOT AN EAWARE TITLE

I'm between 25-30, reading some of the posts here on BW forums, and how some people declare DAI the best without stating or defending their preference for the game, makes me feel like I'm so much older than I really am. I DO remember a BW title when I was younger, I felt that passion, and I replayed it for half of a year, the DA:O, and even DA2 had 2 months of replaying (I swear I'm not exaggerating!). Ahhh, but this, this lasted me two weeks.. :/ *Joins the old timer crew*

It's a good idea. I had so much fun playing it. Now I'm trying to force myself to believe that I could enjoy DA:I as well, but I can't.

I second this.

As much as I loved DAO, after playing DAI... I don't really want to go back to the old gameplay and silent protagonist. I enjoy the new fighting system, but I'm disappointed that the strategy building isn't as fun as the first two games. Essentially, I feel like DAI was rushed like DA2, but at least it had enough time to polish the areas and the combat system. My only disappointment is the lack of character customization, lack of hair and obviously the lack of strategy building. Biggest flaw of the game is the anticlimatic ending and last boss. I enjoyed the rest. I noticed from other people though that's it's almost impossible to have a screwed up ending or to be pure evil in this game. Sad for them who wanted to try something different, but to me it's not that important. I'm over DAO and DA2 as video games, but I want to see more of the lore and I do hope the following patches will add more stuff to the game(s) as right now, it feels empty after I finished my first playthrough around 115 hours.

Sure they do. You're just looking in the wrong place. The mainstream industry is always going to go forward with fancier tech, more complex back ends and more streamlined front ends. The old school cRPG is honestly a niche product from a bygone era that the main stream industry is moving past. If the modern RPG is not to your tastes, then look to the indie scene where older genres get revived instead of making No True Scotsman arguments. -.-

And the warden had the best personality and backstory because of the work and choice that went into it.

Origins + actual choices that mattered and shaped the world and lore that was explained and interesting

Origins gameplay is slow sure but even DAI the movement is sluggish when moving around the battlefield

I'm rather surprised Teddie -- I thought DA:2 had better combat design, considering it was modeled after that (DA:I was modeled after DA2). The one aspect that I preferred DA2 over DA:O combat was how I could become a blood mage TANK! It was new, unique even. The idea of a sorceror holding the ire of his foes, rather succesfully at that, at least for me in the dragon age series. Now, I feel group comps are less unique, especially considering how, fantastic some companions are over the others (Specializations and balancing, it's not even a contest between Sera V Varric), BAH! I say to this, BAH to Inquisitions combat, and BAH to their specializations, BAH to their spells.

I am completely with you on the lack of character customization.

Indeed, I referenced awhile ago the amazingness of being able to reconcile and have your final fairwells with your dead father in the temple of sacred ashes. This, especially after you were forced to part ways before you could say your fairwells the first time. That resonated with me far more than inquisitions, seemingly godmoding character.

I don't like silent protagonists at all. My favourite protagonist of the bunch is still Sarcastic Hawke. I prefer DAI because it doesn't have raids of mobs like DA2 and it has more exploration, has a better looking world and some interesting quests. Besides that, I rate it above DAO and DA2. I liked the romances so far, I liked the companions. I don't really feel anything for my Inquisitors, I don't feel attached to them at all. This is only from my personal experience.

I feel the same. Also I don't feel attached to the places I've been to.

Looks great, plays awfull. Plain and simple.

And i know it's hard to equal DAO and just maybe it's also a bit of nostalgia but the difference in playstyle (especially for PC-players) and story building and character development is so much different from the original that's it's not too strange that many of us feel a bit dissapointed. Taking also in account the many many bugs and glitches it's in every point understandable that many of the Origin-players are not too fond about DA:I.

Right with you.  Consider me an old-timer (35 years old) that doesn't dislike DA:I.  There are some things I'd want changed but not so much that I can't find enjoyment in the game.  Also, I've never been one who plays like 6-8 playthroughs on a single player game.  I have 2 or 3 main playthroughs and then I'm pretty much done with a game.  After that I get bored, not matter how awesome the game, and I search for something new.

God, I wish so much that DAI played like DAO or DA2. The ghastly combat and gameplay mechanics of DAI has utterly killed any desire in me to even attempt a second playthrough. Just playing through it once was a chore, and I spent most of my time playing it feeling angry and resentful. If it had not been a Dragon Age game, I wouldn't have even bothered finishing it.

Brent Knowles He's the reason why DAI could never feel like Origins he was lead Director on Dragon Age origins wasn't he? To me it's like Aliens Vs Aliens 3 you change the Director you change the writing staff you get a different Vision. I like DAI for what's there tho it's nothing like mass one. Knights of the old or Dragon age origins that's some Magic you can never get Back. It's like asking Eddy Murphy to be funny agin lol Biowear should just make a New iP because from what I've seen Dragon Age is not selling well.and that's what happens when you sell out your cor FanBase it's was a Good trip tho Thanks Biowear for the Memory's Because.Lightning never strikes Twice and that's what you myself and a lot of others want but it can't because lightning never strikes Twice.

I actually have trouble going back through DA:O after DA2 came out.I'll still play it but it would not be because of gameplay but story to set up DA2 & DA:I.It's more of a chore for me to play DA:O same feeling I get when I play ME1.

I found it impossible to do multiple playthroughs of Origins... I really wanted to, but it was just so slow... Click an ability, and wait 5 seconds for it to connect, ugh. The game can be paused at any time, there's no reason for it to be so slow when unpaused. I'll take Inquisition over that any day. Also, never felt there was more strategy in the older games, they've all been pretty easy...

I'm also classed as an "old-timer" I think - been playing since the original Baldur's Gate (just started a new game in it last week!).
