Some people aren't into politics, or at least game politics. They don't care about "The Game," or nobles, families, and back stabbings. They don't want to talk with Scribbles about how to outmaneuver the latest pompous Duke. While not always, for many the preferred focus is on the action; overt and blatant instead of subtle and quiet.

A term for this used by some is the "casual gamer." Your mileage may vary as to whether you agree.

Can we please avoid terms such as these?  They don't really add anything to the discussion and often just amount to insults.  Many action focused gamers who don't care about politics would be considered "hardcore" instead of "casual".

Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts was my favourite mission in the entire game. Every restart it's the part I look forward to the most. YMMV indeed.

If your standard of politics, hell even game politics, is DA:I's "The Game", boy do you have a low standard for them. I would even say...a casual standard and understanding of them.  How do we "out maneuver"  Gaspard? By finding a knife in the court yard? Oh boy, the intriguez! How do we find the assassin? She reveals herself to you! Much politics.

This quest could've been great if BioWare did not hold our hand through out the mission, and if we actually saw the consequences of choosing a ruler of Orlais in game. Like, Chevaliers helping you take down Adamant if you haven't done it yet.

If it took you that long to do Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts you are doing it wrong.

Games are not just about killing.   It was a fun mission full of intrigue. When you get older you will learn to appreciate quests like that more.

Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts.

Yes for me it is worst quest in DA:I probably even in all DA games.

Because

1) It's Masked empire extended edition.

2)Why not some detective mission where we need o find who is assassin like in Witcher 1 where we can actually fail. No we get "Hi I am assassin and I will tell you my plan before I kill you, and leave job for my incompetent subordinates.

3) Halla statues. Random luck affecting 2 mission outcomes. Why not race, you previous choices.

4) Switching between no combat and combat done bad why we can just have all no combat mission. Oh yes CoD player will cry river.

I'm 42. How much older do I need to be before I find horrible quests good? I found it pretty lacking in intrigue tbh. I see where they tried to make it full of court intrigue but to me the whole thing fell flat on its masked face.

Wicked Eyes was a breath of fresh air. I was getting tired of solving all my problems with a bow and arrow... it was one of the most memorable parts of my playthrough. I'd like more experiments like this in terms of questing in the future.

So instead of combat, you solved all your problems by picking the middle dialogue option (if you want high approval, that is), and then using that bow and arrow to killing the bad guys of the worst assassin in the world.

Now that you mention it, there was killing involved... but the majority was looking around for stuff and talking so I'm content. And I ended the evening with no bloodshed in the great hall so I'm twice as content. :)

People need to stop with pathetic insults saying those of us unhappy with this quest are combat obsessed. The gameplay and plot of this mission were bad. That is it.

Want a good quest with little to no combat? Try the trial in NWN2, Beyond the Beef in FO:NV, Rescue the Queen/Fort Drakon/Landsmeet in DAO etc etc etc

It was a nice change of pace. I wish there was no combat involved at all (until the confrontation). I'd like to see more quests that don't need any combat to solve them in RPG, so this was definitely welcomed.

The timer can be stressful, but after doing it twice I've found that the game does everything in can to help you max approval, by the dance with the duchess I was receiving more approval than I needed, and I only used couple secrets for a boost and no coins.

Still haven't found the 10th statue, though (which makes it  a good opportunity to do so in the next pt).

Annd here we go...

And it's Gaspard btw

Considering the way you handled the quotes, this is going to look really odd, but what did you do wrong to get your whole clan to die? It's never happened to me. I can see it now though: "Hey 'Quizzy, great job of being a general there, hope you learned something so that maybe you don't kill us all off that way"...

You have to lack reading comprehension and logic to get your entire clan killed as Lavellan inquisitor.

Or perhaps some advisors were busy in another 18h+ mission, but accusing people of being stupid on the internet is more fun so why consider possibilities besides 'reading comprehension and logic'.

...if the fate of the people who you've lived with for years and years was at stake, wouldn't you wait for one of your advisers (someone with a better plan) to return? I mean, role playing wise and all. Of course you can also play as a sociopath and get them all killed with that silly choice, but I doubt this was the case or the intention.

In my opinion, the real problem is that your character does not give a single **** if the people with whom he/she spent their entire life (minus the time with the Inquisition) have died.

Say, you have nothing better to do except inquiry random people on the internet about their choice in a game, accuse them of being dumb and rp wrong? Are you perchance waiting for a WT mission to be done so you can use the best agent to do meaningless **** that will give you coins or  influence that you won't ever spend?

I'm done with you, not worth my words or time. Blocked.

I'm sorry I was offensive this just seemed very obvious in the text of the war table mission. Cullen straight up says you need to fortify the town or the nobles will kill all the elves. He doesn't mince words or hold back, he is really clear.

I should have worded my response better but I was feeling a little salty I guess.

Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts is a stupid mission. And on top of it being all around awful and boring, it offers very little story-wise, rewards-wise, or time-wise. As a result, this mission is a 4 hour (at minimum) filler episode from Lifestyles of the Rich & The Famous.

Hope any and all DLC you plan are nothing like this (aka boring) and also hope this is not a sign of things to come.

And this just goes to show how different people are: Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts is still my favorite quest in the game (after 100+ hours).

I love intrigue and politics, hence why Josephine was used more than anyone else on my war table, and seconded by Leliana. I loved that the fighting was minimal, and everything relied on playing The Grand Game successfully in how you interacted with the nobles. And as a note, Leliana's Song and Mark of the Assassin were my favorite DLC pieces in the previous games.

I'd welcome far more quests like this one.

My only complaint with this entire quest is not being able to wear elaborate Orlesian fashions to the ball, something that hopefully either future DLC or the modders can fix.

There definitely could have been improvements like divorcing court approval from being a sassy betch and maybe tying it to the Inquisition perks about history/magic/religion/politics THAT would have made more sense. Better fashion too, definitely. The assassination and figuring that stuff out could also have been more involved with more than one branch and the ability to be misled. But I feel like the majority of complaints come from the mini-games, which I luckily did not care about since that wasn't what it was about for me.

As for the halla being 'blind luck' er... no. You know why you're there, you know you want Orlais to fall in line. If your brain tells you that it's a great idea to use them on a random door instead of say THE EMPRESS' ROOM then that's your baby.

Oh come on. Finally, finally, they try something new and imaginative, something different from the usual "go there and slay monsters" and apparently it's crap?

I guess most people really do want the same things over and over again.

You see, you're contradicting yourself.

This is not a "new" and "imaginative" concept. This is the exact same mechanics that have been used over and over in all "spy" games in the past 10 years. Hide in some pre-determined spot, collect secrets, spread malcontent.

In fact, I can think of a similar idea that was implemented in Final Fantasy XII.

But you go on thinking this is new, exciting, and intriguing. More power to you.

That's really cute!!!!

You think because you possess a few years on me, that you're more prepared to enjoy the nuances of a game? News flash - age has nothing to do with this. Take your ageist bullsh*t up out of here.

For someone who claims to love intrigue and politics, you sure don't seem to realize how very little of both are in the mission.
