Whenever an in-game movie plays, the video runs correctly for about 3 seconds at a time, then skips a zillion frames, constantly speeding up and slowing down.  I wish I could show you guys exactly what was happening so you could get a better understanding of it but that's the best I could describe it.

The rest of the game plays fine.  It's a little sluggish but I'm running a pretty old machine so I expected that.  It runs better than NWN2 used to, and I beat the entirety of that, so I'm not having any issues with the actual gameplay.  It's purely with the videos.

When the video zooms ahead, it triggers voice clips from further in the cutscene than it should, which makes them unwatchable for me.  I've had to fill in the holes of the plot the videos were supposed to keep you up on because there are so many overlapping voice clips that it's impossible to get a sense of what happened.

I don't even know where to begin to solve this problem.

Computer stats:
Windows XP SP3
2.1 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800
nVidia 8500 GT
1 gig of ram (believe me, I plan to upgrade this as soon as possible.  Computer was my brother's before he got a new one and I just recently learned of what it was sporting.  Cash flow problems mean beggers can't be choosers, though.)

My copy was one that I downloaded over Steam (collector's edition, sent to me as a gift as my birthday is in November).  I had the character creator demo installed before I recieved my copy of the full game and the opening video in that ran just fine.  I am genuinely stumped as to what I can do.  I am *really* trying to avoid a re-install because another 4 to 6 hour download is something I do not want as I've been loving the game so far.

mine is doing the same, the video runs at a faster rate than the sounds, the dialogue overlaps becuz the video skips too much through what is happeneing

is there a way to fix it?

I'm running almost the same setup as Andronic0s and had the same problem. I dropped the resolution and the graphics settings and this seems to have helped.

I've tinkered with different resolutions. My PC isn't really powerful enough to run the game smoothly at anything higher than 1024x768, which is what I keep the resolution at most the time, and dropping it to 800x600 didn't give me any noticeable improvement or help with the weird video bug.

I have also tried toying with the character model and texture displays. Putting them on high or low makes no difference for the issue I'm suffering.

I've had the same issues since I installed it. Only once have I been able to get the intro video to run at normal speed, however since then, it's gone back to fast forward. Which I find really annoying because the rest of the game runs perfectly. Every now and again the video gets super choppy, but if I minimize it for a few minutes, when I bring it back up it's fine. That just makes me think I need a better video card.

Also have the steam version and can't even see the opening video, only a black screen with sound attached.

I had this problem initially too. I managed to fix it by bumping the nVidia drivers up to the current beta version (195.39).

XP32, fully patched. AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ at stock 3Ghz, 4Gb DDR2 at stock speed. Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe mobo. nVidia GTS250 512Mb.

Game (Steam digital deluxe) runs flawless now at high quality, high quality textures, 1680x1050. Hope this helps.

OMG, YES, thank you, I've never actually had outdated drivers be an issue so I never thought to run the driver updates early. Videos are running great now, thank you for this. ^^

I have tried both (getting the new drives which are 191.07 for the Geforce 9 series and lowering my settings and resolution) but it made it worse if anything X_X, any other ideas as to what it could be?

t'was the first time I had drivers be an issue too, Mastervelles. Glad I could help. I'm sorry to see that it didn't fix the problem for Andronic0s :(

Perhaps try and see if the newer beta driver will work, instead of the 191.07 release. They're close to a month newer, and so far (for me at least) have both fixed the issue and are runninng stably.

I did some more digging and turns out that in my case it was some sort of sound issue that was causing the bug, I disabled sound and the movies ran perfectly so after messing around with the sound settings I saw that enabling the ¨Force Stereo (headphones)¨ option fixed the problem for me!

But thanks to everyone for your ideas and help in this :)
