So im looking for some party advice on how to move forward with my Nightmare run and more so dragon hunting.  I initially wanted to do Cassandra, Varric, and Solas with my character running a Tempest Rouge.  However needed the extra barrier and crowd control and went with Vivienne instead of Varric.  But i really dont want to lose out on Varrics party buffs and wonder what other people think is the better party.  I know i could switch out Blackwall for dragon fights and just do Shield wall and To the Death, but i am more focused on just overall better part and who could handle a dragon run and I have liked how the AI controls Cassandra.  So far here are my Set ups for each Character.

Vivienne:  Support and CC (Lvl 16)

Spirit: All skills except upgraded Barrier, Dispel, and Mind Blast.

Lightning: Went down left side with Chain Lightning, Stormbringer, Gathering Storm, and Static Cage.

Ice: Winters Grasp and Winters Stillness

KE: Down the Left sid with Spirit Blade, Combat Clarity, Fade Shield, and Knight-Protector

Fire: Flashpoint

This set up helps her barriers and allow mana regeneration quickly.  Plan to go down the Fire for Flashpoint and Clean Burn

Solas:  DoT, status effects and CC (Lvl 16)

Spirit: Barrier and Guardian Spirit

Lightning:  Down the Left side with Chain lighting, Storm Bringer, and Gathering Storm.  Dropped Energy Barrage to get the cooldown

Fire: Immolate, Flashpoint, Clean Burn, Pyromancer, Upgraded Fire Mine

Winter: Winters Grasp, Winters Stillness

Rift Mage:  Down the left with upgraded Veilstrike, Restorative Veil, Smothering Veil, Pull of the Abyss

Varric: (Lvl 16)

Archery: Down both sides and the middle with upgraded leaping shot.  Stopped just short of getting Full draw at the passives

Subterfuge: Stealth, Evasion, and Easy to Miss

Artificer:  Have everything except for upgraded spike trap and upgraded fallback plan.

I havent yet started working on crafting gear to maximum myself and my part members in question but once i do, who would be the better two, to have along side my tempest and Cassandra for the tank.  I really like the Buffs that varric has, especially once both my character and him are built for Crit chance.  However I like both Solas, for his damage and Vivienne for her support.

My choice as i play a dwarf Rogue DW-A was and still is, myself, +3 mages, i make sure all 3 buffer mages primarily and dmg secondary. No need for a tank if you add the +5 guard to armor/weapons, but i do have access to Legion armor so that might be why no need for a tank.

If your rogue is quick enough and uses stealth you shouldn't need so much barrier, Solas as your only mage should be enough.

Regarding dragon killing in nightmare, just do this: http://forum.bioware...gon/?p=18418910

Got the golden Halla hide that will allow constant stealth when not fighting. This is huge. Will use this over the add 5 guard per hit. And I'm not getting my party to use the focus on their own. Makes me have to control each and nearly waste the flask of fire effect on focus.

For my games, selecting a Mage over a Rogue works better for me mechanically. In addition, for party banter, I love the verbal fencing of the Mages, too.

That said, I am hoping to give Cole more fact time when I finally get the Deft Hands perks and backtrack for skipped goods.
