I don't think it's acceptable so much as there's nothing they can do about it.  At least for now.

So long as they're not using it in MP, nope. I do have to wonder, however, if there were some other vulnerabilities in it that we're not aware of that necessitated the fix. Even if there were, they'll never tell us, it's just never been done since I've been gaming. This has always been a pet peeve of mine in games with MP, that perhaps something else in the code could be exploited in MP, and thus, they have to fix it.

I was wondering this too, actually.  That would be a reasonable explanation for the fix, because otherwise I don't understand why they'd bother with it.

So, I turned off automatic updates to avoid Patch 3, and now Origin is telling me I can't play until I patch. :(

If it was never meant to be, it should be removed, imo

you will have to put in a little extra work in farming gold and perhaps begin picking up some of those common items but it's an exploit, and tbh I never encountered it, and did just fine, my biggest issue was the lack of good schematics to actually craft anything that was a decent upgrade AND looked good on my characters and party members

That's the thing: you don't encounter it. It's an exploit that you have to actively manipulate. So it isn't going to "bug" anyone's game if they don't actively pursue it.

I also get that this is the way Bioware intended it-- for you to go out and gather, and gather and gather and gather some more. I did it for two play throughs, now it's just a freakin chore that would have been nice to just skip. To say "Well, this is how Bioware intended it, deal with it." isn't the point and to make that point you also have to believe that cheat engines should be banned along with mods. Those things enhance your experience, as does this exploit. Bioware can do as they wish, obviously-- I just think it's a silly and useless fix.

Disclaimer: The last part isn't directed at you personally, Bluelynx.

If you're looking for a workaround, there is always CheatEngine.

bioware broke their own game so hard we have to cheat to just to get it work as intended which means it's not cheating anymore

bravo

Ok I must pose the question: How can we get Bioware to reverse this poor decision?

Fixing exploits is now a bad thing? What.

When they're not really affecting the game negatively ? Yes, it is.

I hate when people try to control what other people do in a single player game. "You shouldn't be able to use exports. You're just a lazy cheater !" Look, it's a single player game, if I want to have unlimited gold and all the armor mats as soon as possible then I should be able to do that. Because guess what ? It has no affect on anyone but me.

I understand the case for the exploit's popularity.

I think greater success would be achieved by arguing for the placement of more high level crating materials in high level areas,

explaining what player outcomes the use of the exploit was seeking to address,

that to ask BioWare to reinstate an exploit that they have already removed.

Not only would that tactic be more constructive, I think it has a much greater chance of actually being implemented.

If chests would respawn, none of this would be an issue.

Well and for an exploit, this is sorta a PiTA it isn't just search chest, turn around, look back in chest. This requires leaving, load screen, leave that screen, load screen, walk back to chest, open chest get usually one item.

I really want a New Game + where I can either get a lot of materials or the new game + allows me to collect 3 or something times the usual amount of materials site so instead of picking or mining dozens of sites i can grab the same materials in 3-4 material picks.

It's hard. PC people must think that with the addition of console commands that add gold/mats/schematics we would be set (and that could be true) but the console people would be left out on the cold.

Bioware should have to rethink their idiotic RNG loot system, the farming of many mats (revenant hearts comes to mind) , the amount of gold gained (without the glitch I hardly reach 20000 gold at lvl 19) and make available the T2 and T3 schematics (maybe through a secret vendor, or having an expensive perk on connections?) in a logical way instead of relying on the stupid chests. And I don't see them doing so.

Ah... sigh, I see myself trying the cheat engine sometime soon :(

Start the patch, then pause it immediately, then go offline. That's what I did when patch 2 hit, and it worked. You won't be able to import a new world state or play MP though.

I think for it to work correctly, you have to have auto update turned off before the patch becomes available. Otherwise, it's just gonna start.

If the game is "too easy" then why are you wanting to exploit it? You obviously aren't a hardcore gamer if this is your reasoning

Is it considered easy-mode IRL if you drive to work instead of walk?

Mounts that allow you to save HP by falling down pits. That's even more easy mode for me.

They shouldn't even dare to change this feature.

lol I didn't even know there was a chest glitch. I was talking about the dupe glitch, but yes, even the chest glitch isn't something you're just going to encounter. So it isn't going to accidentally screw anyone's game. There wasnt a need to fix these glitches. Especially since console players are just SOL without them.

I would like NG+, don't see it happening though.

My work is about a forty minute drive. I guess I am a "casual" when it comes to transportation because **** walking.

Yeah, because if they do, then it will make the game even more tedious.

The questionw as if driving a car was easy mode compared to walking.

And the answer to that can only be yes.

Is that an exploit or 'clever use of game mechanics'?  :D

Actually, I never tried that before. Thanks for suggesting. Anyways, this exploit shouldn't be removed as well as the item duplication. It's optional and I don't see why it's such a huge problem.
