So I've concluded that blessed blades has got to go. The cool down reduction is nice but the ability is way too clunky. The obvious shoe in is horn of valor. My question is that with flow of battle could unbowed be better than shield wall from an offensive standpoint? I seem to do best as Templar gearing for high crit to knock my cool downs as low as possible, and unbowed would benefit from this as well. I'd lose a lot of versatility, but I'm thinking unbowed would be better for on the go guard creation for kiting/corner pulls between nuking.

I'm not a fan of Unbowed. Full guard will last maybe 3-4 hits if your lucky on Perilous? It's just no where near enough to cover your overall survivability due to its long 32 second cooldown. I block attacks with Shield Wall to negate their damage and any guard I gain just helps to cover a mistake on my part if I happen to miss a block.

Depends on whether you have the superb stamina amulet.

I see. I didn't like unbowed on legionairre but it's practically the only survival move that temps have other than shield wall. My other thought was body guard, but without crazy high heal on kill or losing horn of valor you'd basically just be soaking up damage until an inevitable death

You'd lose a lot of your front line viability if you ditch Shield Wall. See the thing is, GUARD isn't really the main draw to Shield Wall because it's not this huge surplus of extra HP that it might appear at first glance. The biggest benefit to Shield Wall is being able to BLOCK (or NEGATE) incoming attacks and building GUARD is really just a bonus. So Unbowed really isn't going to be able to substitute Shield Wall in that sense. The Legionnaire can get away with swapping out Shield Wall but to me, it's vital on a Templar.

That being said, play how you want. You might find a team setup that suits that playstyle. What are you trying to build for playstyle wise?

Fair enough, that's why I asked. The issue I have is that being a legionairre style Aggro magnet isn't really an option, but Templars are inherently pretty tough. My thought about bodyguard is that you "mitigation" tank, perhaps with the weakness Debuff thrown in to further mitigate. I realize I'll have to see for myself, but I figure fishing for advice can save time and crappy specs.

Horn of Valor, Wrath of Heaven, Spell Purge, Shield Wall.

My favorite way to play Templar, and a dang effective one.

What 4 skills are you wanting to bring?

That's the issue I'm having. The combo is non negotiable, the spike damage is just too good. Body guard + shield wall is what I was considering if I skipped horn of valor, but horn of valor is class defining so the substitution would have to be worth it.

I'm using Body Guard + Shield Wall on this run through Templar and it's so-so. You're not going to be soaking huge beefy numbers and I probably wouldn't be running it without a Superb Life Drain ring.

It is. It's a free avoid-death skill. Gives you a few seconds of invulnerability like Walking Fortress to get your bearings and recover.

I find Unyielding absolutely mandatory for any Perilous play.

Its the warrior equivalent of Guardian Spirit (barrier that prevents death) a must have.

Cool guys, thanks. I have a hard time speccing through skills I don't intend to use for passives, but it sounds pretty necessary.

UY is definitely for undergeared folk on perilous.

BG is awesome. SW wh ile allies take damage for extra guard.

BB is for highly-geared DPS nukers who can attack cancel /w FoB and high cunning/crit.

Full guard will last maybe 3-4 hits if your lucky on Perilous?

One, from the back, two at most if you wear the +200 health belt & have high (50+ promoted) constitution. UB sucks. Don't get it. I have 60+ Constitution, and 25+ templar promotions, and I don't rely on guard. That should be telling.

That was my next question, how does bodyguard work? Can you block during it to avoid damage and build guard while teammates take damage? That makes it way better.

You don't avoid damage, but the damage is negligible even without the upgrade. With it, watch as your entire party takes trivial damage. If you have a keeper nearby, it is obvious who to barrier.

I highly recommend my bodyguard build /w UY to anyone new to the Templar when doing Perilous. Game so much easier when the damage is trivial.
