As in the first session of play you had. Do you remember what you thought back then (before seeing the entire story play out, but the first 10 minutes to several hours of gametime)
Let's go back in time: What was your first impression of ME3?

First impression was both good and bad, I noticed a lot of weird animations; neck twitching and random shoulder jerks to name a few. The good bits are the gun play and the new mechanics in combat.

Up until the last 10 minutes or soI thought it was by far the best game in the trilogy. I might have had a few minor complaints or issues with content before the end run, but my only major complaint was with the ending.

My first impression was that the cutscene where Anderson frees shep had very, very fast cuts and camera shakes up to the point where it got really annoying. It felt over-engineered and a bit desparate: look! Camera shakes! We have them! Look how cineastic we are!
Next impression: so, the Reapers are attacking the galaxy and it takes about 10 minutes between first contact ever and landing in the backyard of Alliance head-quarters. So... we got rid of long-range scanners? There goes the suspension of disbelief.
And it got progressively worse from there ![]()

I sat through that slow intro, the whole thing with Ash saying she used to know me...... and knew that the writers had lost their minds. The Defense Committee stuff was dreadful - the whole we fight or we die *rolls eyes*.
I sat through a game that was rushed, always hoping it would get better. Alas.

so hyped i was, i was with Tali withdrawal (tricky syndrome)
Heck, i downloaded the demo an played it. Noticed the auto dialogue right away, and even noticed that some of the few options given lead to the same answer by the NPC.
But beyond that it was ME it was going to end here. I was thrilled about it, and enjoyed every single bit till Marauder Shields. Thank God for the EC
Also, noticed the lack of participation of tons of my assets. hated that.

Well for me it wasn't so long ago so i have no trouble remembering it pretty well,i had put the game off for ever since i wanted to play through the entire trilogy and when i finally got to ME3 it was "this game if frickin brilliant".
That's still my impression of the game.
Sometimes i feel alone in thinking it's the best game in the series but I liked it so much i started a new character in ME1 right away.

I will admit...I was pumped...I was VERY pumped. I pre-ordered the collectors edition and had it delivered on March 6th!
Then I got to the intro - Who is this guy (james) what the hell! Why are there only two dialog choices with everything? Ohhh boom bang big reapers are bad oh wow look at that a...dreadnaught in the city? Well that doesn't seem that possible if I can remember the cod- ohh wow it just went boom!! that was pretty cool. Wait..I have access to ALL of my powers and tech! That is a bit new. Aww the kid...go kid go! *tear
Then I got to the rest of the game:
- WTF cerberus has an army...
- Oh hey Liara, how are you - oh you don't remember how we rekindled our romance? oh...ok...Why am I only getting zaeed convos? I LOVE YOU DAMMIT!!!
- Oh hai Wrex...god he is such a badass! and the Turian dude should be some good tension on the ship.
- Aww Rachni!!! ah this is sooo cool that my choice made this happen! And Grunt! Good to see you again!! What is that queen...you got trapped...again...well...that doesn't make much sense but I will let you go. We will burn the darkness away once and for all! *tear @ grunts final stand
- well it is just another cerberus mission...where are all these guys coming from? And how did they find out about this bomb?
- Genophage cured...my god...the tears...the painful tears...*salutes Mordin
- What is the deal with retaking earth? Why is everyone gathering around this? Wouldn't it be retake the galaxy? eh whatevs
- WTF is cerberus doing on the citadel? Who the f*ck is this space ninja....Are you kidding me? We aren't shooting at this guy while thane is engaging him? THANE NO!!
- Goodbye Thane...*tear... (IMO the best emotional moment of the trilogy for me)
- What are the geth doing in league with the reapers? Why would the reapers help them? What is going on here? AHHHH Admiral Koris' head!!
- Peace with Geth and Quarians!! Take THAT reapers! We are coming for you!!!
- Again with this retake earth...srsly what is going on...I don't care about ONE planet....the galaxy is in peril!
- Scene with garrus- I will let you win sir
- Scene with Liara - Hell yeah! Romance checked in...again....for some reason...
- Wow thessia is beautiful, I hope we get to be here a bit long- just ONE mission? And YOU!!! Space Ninja!! WTF is this? Backflipping? Jesus Tapdancing Christ!!! And he just...wins....
- for some reason my shepard is really REALLY sad over thessia....ok
- Soooo Horizon is where cerberus has been getting all these people to shoot at...huh. Ok...So why are the reapers attacking their indoctrinated servents? I thought cerberus was working for them...ok...whatever. Oh hai Miranda! Ya, no deal with d-bag dad. Knock him out of the window!!!
- All that remains is Chronos! Lets take Cerberus out of this fight and stop Harbinger and his reaper pals!
- Ohhh Sexy time with Liara!
- What! The Citadel is the catalyst! Oh...ok...that makes some sense.
- Lets do it Hackett!! Lets Jump to earth and end this!!! I can't wait to see how all my war assets, fleets, friends, and crucible do in the battle against Harbinger and his ilk
- Oh wow! Look at all the fleets! Oh there is the quarian, geth, turian, human and asari....but where is the rachni? or Salarian? hmmm maybe they will show up on the ground.
- Final battle underway. First shots fired! Wait...why are there only turian, human and Asari ships? Where are the Quarians and Geth? Where did they go?
- Ohh Hades cannon attack! Lets take it down so everyone can land and the reapers can feel the might of a united galaxy!!
- Hey anderson...ok...you were born in london...didn't you already tell me that? well that was awkward....
- At the FOB...goodbye everyone! So many emotional goodbyes. And...a...turret...well that made no sense but ok.
- Final charge: Alright! Now I get to fight with all of my war assets! Hey...where is everyone? It is just a few makos? Where are the Krogan, Geth, Rachni, Salarian, Asari, or Turian fighters next to me? Why are they in cutscenes miles away?
- OK hold the missles...ok hold the line...I can do this...so many brutes...what is that? A Harvester?....oh...and some Banshees? srsly? Wowzas they have to be building to one HELL of a final boss for this one!
- Harbinger on his way!!! FINALLY!! Vengeance for ME2 and Everything!!!
- So Im just running? OK...I mean he is just zapping everything...and why am I AGAIN just seeing human soldiers? Where is everyone else? Will my war assets actually come and help out here - *Zapped in the face. Oh...I guess not
- So...im alive...ok...what the f*ck...why is he just leaving the beam unguarded? Where is he going?
- HOLY CRAP...unsteady aim...must shoot this pointless Marauder...to...finish...the...fight...
- How did Anderson get up here? And even ahead of me? Why are all these bodies just strewn about when the collectors were building a reaper too and processed the bodies via pods. What? How did TIM get here? How does he now have super powers? Oh well...just keep choosing blue options...and Oh...he shot himself...ok.
- Goodbye Anderson! *Tear
- Goodbye Reapers...this is the end for you and me! It has been a great journey and I can't imagine it ending bett-what...I am being raised up? WTF is this sh*t
- Who the F*ck is this kid...Why are the citadel arms opening like a flower? What? You are the Catalyst? OH...ok....AND the Citadel is Part of you? huh...well I suppose that is kinda ok as long as you don't have any direct connection to the reap - You control the reapers? AHHHH RETCON!!! AND You embody the collective consciousness of the reapers? GODDAMMIT!!!! What kind of solution? Organics being destroyed by synthetics? WTF Is this crap? That is IT! That is your reasoning? So now I have to either destroy all synthetic life, control the reapers or merge everything...Wait...wait a second...there is no way that middle option can work...it goes against everything in the lore and the themes of mass effect! And it even breaks the codex! Well...control might work I guess...but how would I control them If I lose everything...I guess we are going to have to destroy...maybe if I get closer to the option it will explain itself...oh...now I can't move...ok...just going to shoot this tube now and...win....ok....wow...red explosion....and sad music....wtf is going on here?
- Wait...did the entire citadel just blow up? Well...that is the end of me and everyone else I suppose...Wait if that goes to a relay and destroys it...that is the death of this system...oh look there it goes...and yup...the relay blows up...wow...ok...so the system is dead....and...WTF is this sh*t! Why is Joker running? WTF is is doing? WTF Is going on? What the hell is the jungle planet for? how did the normandy lan-....oh you have to be kidding me...how the f*ck did my two squadmates get on that ship? Seriously? Liara AND Garrus? WTF are you doing there? And now you are just stuck there? great...just great...
- oh wow...a torso breathing...how the f*ck can that happen? wtf is going on here? Is that suppose to be shepard?
- huh...well that is a pretty stargazer scene...kinda creepy though....ok...one more story...well that is sweet I guess but it makes no sense...everyone should be dead?
- *credits...ARE YOU SERIOUS? THAT IS IT? I JUST KILLED THE GALAXY!!!
*Pop up message - Wow...wow bioware....THIS is how you end your trilogy...the final words are 'downloadable content'...this...sucks...balls....f*ck it...i'm going to bed. I don't want to play anymore of this game.

My first impression after starting ME3 for the first time [hadn't played 1 or 2 at that point. I wouldn't play them until I got stuck later in 3 and wanted to start over and play the series right]: "My god, this game is fantastic! I've never had so much fun in a modern game before! If this game which is getting so much flack is this good, I cannot wait to get 1 and 2!"
Then, later on, I went to Grissom Academy much too early "'oh s---', Grissom Academy is impossible
. I am giving up on this playthrough". I didn't know there was a difficulty setting at the time
My first reaction after finishing [I had done a complete trilogy playthrough when I first 100%ed ME3]: "wow, that ending did suck, but I don't get all the whining, the game was still awesome before that point."

The first few hours?
"Nice graphics"
"When am I going to get a dialogue option?"
"WTF did they do to Ash's appearance?"
"Well, at least her arguments are more coherant than in ME2"
"Payback's a b*tch, Cerberus!"
"'Councilor' Udina, eh? Yeah my choices are totally going to have consequences" /sarcasm
"Cool, party banter."
"So what's up with the dream?"
"Cameos! Cameos everywhere!"
"Well, this isn't turning out so bad. At least it has a story. I'm sure those rumors about the ending are just an exageration..."

The problem OP was there was a demo that essentially was the first 10 minutes (and another section later in the game) so technically my first impression was from the demo.
Some random thoughts as I was playing the first time:
-- looks good
-- environments look much better
-- uniforms look better
-- James looks good
-- Anderson looks much better (Keith David still the man)
-- I miss Ashley's hair bun
-- Reaper invasion, where's Harbinger?
-- Battle damage? Sweet! - referring to the uniform damage and blood on face
-- Running animation is not solid
-- Husks!
-- Get over here, Kid!
-- Is that... a Batarian?
-- Damn Avenger rifle sounds amazing. Sounds like the "bullets" get sucked into the enemies
-- There's my baby! (Normandy arrival)
-- Reaper walker? cool!
-- Really good music... something's gonna happen!
-- Boom!
-- Logo.
My first impression in a nutshell. The only thing I wish Mass Effect 3 had was a prequel-ish trial that incorporated your choices. Would have liked to have seen that ... 6 months later ... then ME3 starts.

Was pumped for it going in, the actual mechanics of the game felt better for the most part, but I was very disappointed there was no trial (which is funny since you enter a "courtroom" to speak to the committee, which suggests it was an idea at somepoint.) Then I was getting worried where this was going that the first act or prologue wasn't about eliminating/taking over Cerberus, peaked too soon with the Reapers coming into Earth at the start.
So yeah, impressed with most of the technical stuff but a lot of worrying things plot-wise from the get-go no different from ME2 sadly in that regard.

I was amazed by how much better most every aspect was than ME2 and I loved it. In my first playthrough I just took everything as it came, it honestly wasn't until an hour or two after the ending that it really sank in, just how disappointed and unsatisfied that last bit got me feeling. And then over the next while I started dwelling on everything that was wrong with the story, and now I can't just switch off and ignore those flaws.

- Wait...did the entire citadel just blow up? Well...that is the end of me and everyone else I suppose...
At the risk of opening up an old, old argument, how'd you draw that conclusion? You can plainly see that the Citadel explosion isn't even big enough to annihilate the Wards, let alone Earth. I can see getting this wrong if you'd forgotten or never knew that the Citadel was a relay, but you did know that.
As for the topic, I was impressed by the demo except for two things. The lighting looked a bit weird on my rig compared to ME2, and I didn't like some of Shepard's dialogue; notably her ridiculous bombast with the Defense Committee, and her desire to keep fighting on Earth. I was more bothered by the latter since I'd put up with Shepard bombast before.

Ya...I am not one for opening old wounds either. Suffice it to say that the explosion is the size of the entire center ring of the citadel. That should instantly kill shepard at the very least

That was my FIRST impression (eg when I first played the game) then I started to look at it again. For the sake of the topic I wanted to be as close to my first impressions of the ending as I could get...and believe it or not that is what I remember thinking. Over the course of constant review and analysis (eg looking it up on YT) I found that the citadel was severely damaged,,,but not TOTALLY destroyed. How the breath scene happens though...honestly it is beyond me. Didn't bio give us a statement on it?

I want to divide this into three different first impressions that I had about the game (cause that's how it sticks out to me).
My first impression of my first session (when I played up until Menae was not that great. I already knew the tutorial mission from the E3 presentation, so not many news there. I didn't like it very much, the dialogue was not crisp enough, everything was way too sudden and there was no real connection to the second part (I had timed it so that I had just finished Arrival a few minutes before I got my Collector's Edition package). I didn't like the limited dialogue options and Kaiden really pissed me off on Mars. I hate giving numbers but let's just say the game was maybe about a 6/10 for me at this stage.
Stating with my next session, the game got better. While I still had gripes about the dialogue options and some minor stuff (EDI's robot body diminished a really great and unique character IMO for example), the gameplay was really great, i was amazed by the sheer amount and variety of weapons in this game. Also, the missions got better and better. The side missions finally were on par with the main missions (not counting fetch quests of course), a lot of old characters came back in a spectacular fashion and the story started to pick up. I think the music also really helped to draw me in (Tuchanka Hollows music especially). I do remember that I was not too thrilled to suddenly solve all the galaxies problems within a month (Genophage, Geth issues, etc.) but the character moments were great nonetheless. By the time the invasion of earth started I loved this game, despite its flaws. I remember, when the fleet attacked the reapers over earth for the first time, I literally slammed my fist on the table, saying stuff out loud to the monitor like "give them hell boys!" That never happend in any ther game before (not even ME1/2). The game was a 9.5/10 for me at that point.
Then came Priority Earth and Citadel: The Return. I had heard that it was bad but had not been spoiled otherwise. I thought "how bad can it really be" and I did think Priority Earth was actually ok, not super duper great but it was ok. Well, as for the rest, I made a thread very soon after finishing the game, which should give a clue about my first impression on it. ![]()

I'll qualify this by saying that I loathe the ending. There's only one thing that comes close to that level of bad in the entire game and that's the beginning. It's terrible. When did we as gamers start having to be hand-held through a demo of the controls? Put them in a one-page leaflet in the box or something, or have a dedicated 'tutorial' within the game options/main menu FFS. Don't ruin what should have been a monumental opening. Narratively it's also insulting - "erm thanks for reminding me to reload Anderson, as a trained and decorated soldier/Spectre, I might have forgotten....." or "Phew! Thanks for advising that I jump that gap Anderson. Without that critical help I might just have walked off the edge into thin air....".
Luckily, things picked up when you got off Earth.

"YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES" I was so unbelievably hyped.
I was enjoying myself so much up until..... Nope you guessed it wrong, not the ending, but the GethxQunari conflict.
See the impression I had is that your choices had little consequences, but damn karma bit me for believing that. Apparently because I opted to do Rannoch ASAP, the peace dialouge option was locked out for me, I started crying, then I decided to side with the Geth, then Tali commited suicide and I noped the hell out of the game. Tali's suicide scene was the worst thing I've ever experienced in my freaking life.
Fast forward till the ending, having a massive time I didn't really feel that bad about the ending because the game was soooo good, I was just disappointed I don't get to see more plus how I understood little. Fast forward till Extended Cut DLC and Leviathan DLC, replayed the game as a completionist and YES YES YES from the start till the end. Maybe because I'm 19 I'm pretty inexperienced in games and wouldn't know a good ending from a bad one, but my ending (the control ending) was my favorite game ending EVER.
EDIT: Wait no I take that back, second favorite ending. My favorite game ending was Fire Emblem Awakening.
