Does this guy sound incredibly plain and boring to anybody else? I'm playing as a Human Mage and thought his voice fit my younger looking character but damn, the voice acting is just so off.

I've noticed this during several conversations in the game. It's like he's always pleading with characters, as if no matter the spoken line, he always wants to be diplomatic about the way he says it. Even when he asks questions, they seem to be spoken like plain statements, not to mention the difference between the intensity of the choices is barely noticeable.

Normally I wouldn't care, but after hearing him in the conversation with Corypheus, I just had to stop. The american voice actor sounds much better than this one. Too bad the deep voice doesn't fit my Human Inquisitor.

P.S. - Just beat the "In your heart shall burn" with level 7 party and found gear on Nightmare + Friendly Fire. Felt good.

i was a bit underwhelmed too, but mostly because there was something about his accent that i found off-putting?  i think he sounded a little too posh, but i can't really fault the actor for that, since it's most likely his normal speaking voice.  his voice acting was decent, but i don't think it was by any means the best, but i think DAI is his first game role?  maybe he'll get more voice work after this and improve.  i often find myself comparing his acting to nicholas boulton's, who i thought was fantastic, especially as hawke.

out of the inquisitor's voices, i prefer alix wilton regan's, although i admit it took me a while to stop hearing samantha traynor >.>  i haven't tried the other 2 voices yet.

EDIT: reading back on my post and thought i'd clarify just in case: when i said i was comparing his acting to nicholas boulton's, i meant that i kept thinking that nicholas boulton was a million times better, which isn't really fair, considering that he's done more voice acting and i'm certain that he voiced just about half the roles in DA2 >.>

All of them are horrible imo. The English female voice is worse than Hitler Celene.

What is that VA's deal? Whether talking about the weather or the impending death of everyone he ever cared about, he speaks in the same tone.

Exactly! It's like he wants to sit down and have tea before he cleaves the enemy into two.

Actually think he's the best of the four options. The weakest for me was actually the American male (relatively speaking) but I wasn't unhappy with any of the voice actors for the protagonist.

He sounds more like he's begging the for the violence to stop to be honest.

Really? I thought the male american voice actor sounded pretty powerful overall with all his tones. "You leave me no choice!" *no choice... no choice...*(echoes)

Really? To me he sounded like he was being a low key smartass most of the time tbh.

I wonder if it was a deliberate attempt to make the inquistors sound more nondescript.  I know a fair few people complained that Hawke's voice acting made it more difficult to put their own stamp on the character.

I started an Adaar inquistor and went with the American female voice.  After reaching level ten I couldn't take the bland delivery anymore, deleted the character and started again with Alix.  Even her delivery isn't anywhere near the range you get with femHawke.  It's made even worse by the sheer quantity of dialogue reflection along the lines of :

Hinterlands Idiot:  "My widget is missing and I don't know what I'm going to do without it."

Inquisitor: "You said that your widget is missing and you don't know what you're going to do without it."

HI:  "Yes."

Inquisitor:  "I need to be going."

Who wrote that rubbish anyway?

It was incredibly apparent when talking to Corypheus the first time.

American male: YOU WANT MY MARK??!! TAKE IT!!

English male: Stop it, please... you're hurting me... *sobs* This is why you killed the divine...? *sobs*

My guess is that they were told to stay fairly "neutral" all the time.  It probably allowed for less takes of certain lines.  I personally prefer it when the dialog options have more variance in tone so I can play my characters with some personality... so yes, despite the voice acting in general being very good in the game, the Inq voices are not as strong imho.

I can't even play with the "american" voices as they are the most "neutral" sounding to my ear, very bland, non-descript and without emotion (at least early going, I haven't made it far with them before deleting).   *Maybe* I could do a male dwarf or male qunari with the male one...but for humans and elves, british was really the only way to go for me.  I really didn't want a character who sounded disinterested half the time. lol  I *know* both of those voice actors are amazing too, so I can only conclude that they were told to deliver it that way.   The british male voice works especially well for a male elven mage. I always sound so concerned and appalled that someone may step on the hem of my robe...

All do a good job but he's my least favorite of the 4. AWR is the best by far, IMO.

I actually really liked him. Only one that seems a bit flat to me the female American voice. In fairness i think all of them probably do a good job, really just comes down to preference

He's alright, I can't stand the British voice, not because its bad. I just don't like the way it sounds. The same goes for the heavy snooty French accents of Orlais
