I really really like his VA though. Thought it suited my Inquisitor perfectly.

I personally wish there had been three voice options, though I understand budgets would have kept them from being able to do this.  Firstly, the 'English' VA, the 'American' VA and for all of those people playing as elves, the 'Welsh' VA.  Again, we can dream but it's not going to happen.

The main VA's for this one ('English'), male and female, were a bit lacklustre, but in the end, it didn't distract me from enjoying the game.  The other VA's (largely the companions) are so good that my characters regular lack of emotion is a bit more tolerable.

Problem was the direction not the voice. If im not mistaken they were probably made to sound neutral.

I've used all but the American male and liked them all.  Usually my humans and elves have British accents and my dwarves and qunari have American.  I am not bothered by either, maybe because I'm Canadian I can appreciate both? ;)

British Voice dear! British accent! To every outsider sounds too posh or it sounds as we were struck by lightning in our a$$ so we speak that way...you pick which one is for you :P

i'm not an outsider though >.>  i may live in america now, but i was born and raised in the uk.  i AM a northerner though, so to me, the vast majority of the british VAs sound posh to me xD

I don't like the low-pitched voices for either gender, but the higher ones sound good to me. Then again it might depend on the kind of character you're playing; my male Trevelyan is a bit posh and "smart", kinda like a spoiled child at times and it really suits him perfectly :P

I loved my male Trevelyan during the winter palace because of his voice. The Dance Scene and the final scene when you outplay everybody in The Game is when I knew the british voice was the right pick for me. It had Secret agent vibe during those scenes.

After people complained about Hawke not fitting their imagined personality due to his/her varied VA, Bioware went in the neutral direction to appease such players.

The same thing happened in regards to Blood Magic where people who couldn't comprehend story/gameplay segregation bitched about people not commenting on your usage of Blood Magic, so they removed it to please them yet again.

There's someone on the team who's really spiteful and I'm actually loving them for it. Hopefully they get a bit more spiteful and go in the opposite direction they took in DAI.

The issue is that in contrast to your companions who have very limited variation of lines and defined by author personalities, PC is defined by the player and there are far more combinations the PC can make in the course of a dialogue with unpredictable changes in intonation and pitch (because of the seer amount of dialogue).

Last time they went with 3 predefined personalities which had its own limitations. As funny as the Hawke was, you could only play a good-natured Hawke, a sarcastic Hawke, or agressive Hawke. It was very difficult to play a sarcastic Hawke who is good-natured, but sometimes gets angry without Hawke sounding as if he/she is having a psychotic breakdown.

This time they went for a more neutral approach and didn't defined the PC personality and even now there are some moments where intonation and pitch are all over the place.

I don't like playing predefined characters in RPG and while there can be improvements I like that they didn't go Hawke's route this time.

I really dig his voice (now). It took me a few gaming hours to get used to it though.

I see the problem with only the english voice actor, so I don't know what you are on about, not to mention the game has both neutral choices and emotion choices and the balance is mostly good. They offered a lot more in DA:I than they ever did in DA 2.

As for Blood Magic in DA 2, it was handled poorly(an understatement, I know). They just slapped it to the character screen after a level up with no rhyme or reason for it being there. Atleast DA:O made a good effort in introducing the specializations to the player(I still think it's the best implementation yet). Since Blood Magic is a very touchy subject in Thedas and properly implementing it would need more effort than the ones currently in DA:I, it wasn't worth it. Not to mention, a Maleficar being the Herald of Andraste would be most controversial and immersion breaking than anything else in the game.

Point is, I see logic and reasoning in those decisions. Granted, there are other choices they've made regarding game design which felt quite the opposite. All in all, I see no spite in their work, but I do sense it in your post.

Right but I wasn't speaking of the general direction, just this specific voice choice being considerably neutral than the american one. Maybe this guy took it a little more seriously when they told him to only lightly touch the big three. I like the general direction of the choices. Sure I miss Sarcastic option in the emotion ones but that's about it.

From what I saw of the male and female American accents on you tune, they were pretty atrocious.

I have one character with the american voice actor and one with the english voice actor. The american voice actor sounds boring and most of the time emotionless. I prefer the english voice, though he's kinda nasally sometimes

I really like the English male voice. The only time it made me cringe when I announced that I was inviting the mages to be our allies. Kind of sounded school-girlish...too enthusiastic considering what had just transpired. Other than that, I have absolutely no complaints - he did a good job. American male sounds good for the dwarf, but neither seems quite right for the elf...

Isn't the Male English voice the guy who voiced Teagan and Gamlen?

Anyway, that's who I'm using a for my Inquisitor (a Trevelyan) and I'd say I'm quite happy with about 92% of the time. Occasionally you do get those lines here and there and you think "wow my unstoppable two-handed warrior of great justice is... a bit of a fop."

Hinterlands Idiot:  "My widget is missing and I don't know what I'm going to do without it."

Inquisitor: "You said that your widget is missing and you don't know what you're going to do without it."

HI:  "Yes."

Inquisitor:  "I need to be going."

Who wrote that rubbish anyway?

Oh yes, some of those conversations are VERY bad. Guess they go along with the dumbness of those quests.     :P

I'm in love with the male English voice.

It could be that, my impression is that whoever was the voice director did missed couple things here and there (most apparent with Leliana introduction) but I also think that a lot of it has to do with how you perceive certain lines, how you think your character should deliver them. It's a bit tricky, I hope that after two experiments they will find a good balance in this.

I've tried two voices so far (females) and they both have their issues.

I prefer the American male voice, the British one is to high pitched for the head cannon I have for my toons but, it is well acted. Yes he's trying to be diplomatic, that's the idea, you have to be diplomatic to gain allies and, that is the whole idea here.

I do think that the fact that I always play diplomatic characters and humans, helps me like that English voice so much.

The voice actor for the "American" voice also did Zevran. Yes, THAT Zevran. Despite how the voice sounds, the VA does a great job for "Comedy" lines in DAI. Not surprising for the VA for Zevran.

No. This is the first time Harry Hadden-Paton has worked with BioWare.
