I wish he voiced an LI.

And only romanceable by female elves + humans.

/s

On topic though, he's my favorite PC VA in any game I've played, other than DX:HR which was a more...stylized voice acting. I think he is better in comedic or flirtatious dialogue than "I shall impose my glowing manhood on you, baddie" stuff though. E.g. his delivery of the conceited dialogue choice in the first Blackwall conversation at Haven, or his interaction with Dorian.

I looooOOOooooVVVeee the male British voice. After experiencing both the female ones, his was like a godsend.  :P

I hope I like the male American one at least half as much in my next playthrough.

Not for me. I don't quite like the Male British voice. I originally made my Inquisitior with the American Male and was REALLY sad when it bugged out after I finished customizing Hawke. Everytime he talks I just.... wanna close my ears.

Sure, his best performance may be the dance cutscene and box judging, but overall I don't hate the voice, I just hate the acting. The style. The way he talks. It's like he's inserting a deep "H" to every word and it's unnerving. It's my personal preference though. I prefer the American male rather than the British one.

As for the female... Alix's not bad, though I agree fem!Hawke sounded superior, and male!Hawke blew all of them out.

That time though, I was glad my female American Inquisitor bugged out cause I just can't stand it. Especially during that IB scene where she says "I love you" like a malfunctioning robot.

I loved my male Trevelyan during the winter palace because of his voice. The Dance Scene and the final scene when you outplay everybody in The Game is when I knew the british voice was the right pick for me. It had Secret agent vibe during those scenes.

This.

The English male VA perfectly fit the male human noble. The people complaining that the accent sounds too 'posh' must have been playing an elf, dwarf, or Qunari...because the human Inquisitor is from an aristocratic family. He's supposed to sound that way.

I think they are all good. I prefer American on both genders tho. I prefer the deeper tone of the American VAs. I don't think any of them are as good as Hawke tho. Dragon Age 2 had some glaring problems, but the two Hawke VA's killed it.

The British male voice (Harry Hadden-Paton) is actually my favourite out of the four, with the British female (Alix Wilton Regan) coming a close second. The vast majority of the time (when given the choice in a video game) I play as a human, and their voices happen to suit my characters brilliantly.

My first playthrough was as a male, human warrior and HHP's delivery was spot-on for the vast majority of his lines, in my opinion. I particularly loved when he was being humorous/sarcastic - his delivery was just perfect at times (the first conversation you have with Sera at Haven springs to mind, where you can say how ending the Mage-Templar war should be easy, and was easily one of my favourite lines in the whole game).

My second playthrough so far has been as a female, human mage and I'd say that AWR's delivery is mostly spot-on as well. The only thing that takes her down a notch slightly in my book is when she's trying to be humorous/sarcastic - she just doesn't quite do those lines as well as HHP does them (the aforementioned line with Sera is a prime example. I mean, it's still funny, just not as funny when HHP does it, for me).

Maybe it's some subconscious bias as I'm British myself, but the American voices by comparison don't even come close to the British ones. When I hear HHP or AWR speak they sound quite charming, natural, refined, and sophisticated; when I hear Jon Curry or Sumalee Montano speak they just sound so bland, monotone, and it seems to me like they're trying too hard (I particularly dislike Curry's voice. I don't know what it is, but there's just something about his voice that makes me hate it for some reason).

Don't worry, based on all the feedback received Bioware will reveal Microsoft Sam and Anna as protagonist voices for DA4.

Please look foward to it.

At first I didn't like him and preferred the American one. At some point that changed though, the British voice sounds more subtle somehow? Less obvious, not trying as hard. Plus he just sucks in Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts. He sounds so... forced. But this is going to be personal preference each time, I can see why some people would like a more forceful delivery.

I couldn't disagree more about Wicked Eyes & Wicked Hearts. I think Harry Hadden-Paton's performance during that whole quest was fantastic, and the best of the bunch.

Definitely the best of the 4 inquisitor voices.

I kind of wish there was a more brutish third voice for males that would fit wit Qunari inquisitors more. Something like Sten's VA in DAO.

I liked the British male VO just fine. Far more than Hawke's VO anyway. That's likely down to direction and the schizophrenic nature of Hawke due to the tones in DA2, which thankfully were absent (at least in icon form) in DA:I. I guess the tones were effectively still there since your top choice was often diplomatic, middle sarcastic and bottom more gruff, but they didn't feel as hammy and extreme as they were in DA2- they all felt a bit more toned down, which I appreciated.

The english male VO is great; way, way better than the american one, which sounds too harsh and forced, like the voice actor has a bad case of toothache or something. Everytime I hear it I get this image in my head of a drill sergeant with a cigar stuck to one side of his mouth.

Last time they went with 3 predefined personalities which had its own limitations. As funny as the Hawke was, you could only play a good-natured Hawke, a sarcastic Hawke, or agressive Hawke. It was very difficult to play a sarcastic Hawke who is good-natured, but sometimes gets angry without Hawke sounding as if he/she is having a psychotic breakdown.

Wow, I don't agree. My canon was a sarcastic Hawke, but the occasional aggressive/diplomatic lines didn't feel out of place at all, if used in the right context. Iphawke had a strong shaped personality and still she could come out with "oh gosh, Fenris, I'm so sorry..." and "You bastards took my brother!" without that feeling out of place.

The Inquisitor looks more neutral by choice.
Even so, I have to say that I was far more pleased with the American fem and the British male, provided you match them with the kind of Inquisitor you plan on playing. The American male is also very good, though I found him more fitting for all seasons, if you get what I mean. On the other hand, I was totally displeased with the "acting" of Alix Wilton Regan and it pisses me off that she's the only one who got spotlight of all four voices, when she delivers an acting suited at best for a general NPC. And I'm not talking about the accent. It seems like your Inquisitor is reading her lines somewhere behind your back, and with serious spelling issues. What's so difficoult with the word "Inquisition"? Is it so uncommon that you have to spell it slowly every time? You are in combat, for the Maker's sake: words either roll of your thongue or don't come out at all.
"Alexxxxxxxxxiouuuussssssss <pause> <pause> <pause> <long pause> itssssss time to anzwer <stumbles> for your creimsssssss".
I swear I am very tolerant but this is probably the only thing I can barely stand in the whole game.

I really like the English male voice for the most part. The only thing I wasn't really fond of was if you chose the 'angry/aggressive' responses. For some reason they tended to sound a bit... off, I suppose?

Could be a regional thing. I'm Australian and much prefer the English voices for the inquisitor. The American voices I feel are the ones that are a bit flat.

I think Mark Lewis Jones would have been perfect for a Qunari Inquisitor. He played Shagga from Game of Thrones for those who are unfamiliar with them.

I'm pretty his voice is listed somewhere under the dictionary definition for intimidating.

Of course there's a limit on the amount of VAs you can have for the main character. So its to be expected that not all versions of the protagonist will have a VA who matches the character perfectly. (Elves suffer the worst from this IMO)

I'm definitely in the waaaaayyyyyyy too posh camp. I'm actually really regretting going with him for my dalish, because he sounds so... posh and formal and out of place at times. Bleh.

Admittedly I just finished the exalted plains dalish sidequests and while it bothered me at times before, I'd managed to handwave/headcanon it away. But the contrast in that segment really bummed me out.

Credit where it's due, the sidequest writing for the inquisitor is so atrocious I'm not sure any amount of acting could have redeemed it. Why they felt the need to add 'you said that' to half the lines, even the ones where there's only one response, I can't begin to guess.

Otherwise I think his delivery is good, and quite a bit more expressive to my ears than my previous PT (american female). But good god, get that hot potato out of your throat when only one of the four potential backgrounds is upper class. 2/3 of one out of four depending on how you see the human mage's circle. I'm definitely not using that voice for anything but noble from now on.

As far as I remember I really couldn't variate between diplomatic and sarcastic in many instances, the intonation in sarcastic voice made it too high in pitch for my ears, like one moment she was a tranquil and then suddenly not, can't explain it better. I still managed but it was 80% diplomatic 9%sarcastic and 1%aggressive.  Between different sets of dialogue the problem wasn't so prominent, but in the same line of dialogue i couldn't become  reasonably angry in the course of the dialogue. The way I was looking at it was that I had 3 extreme options.

In DAI it is better, I can joke without the need to be sarcastic as a person (the animation however in these moments is terrifying, but that another issue), I can ask the cleric for peace talk and then get upset at LS,  the variations go far more natural, without my character feeling very bipolar (?)

DAI has another set of problems, for instance I've found more instances where (with a British female voice) you can't be consistently aggressive without sounding cartoony or in need of chill pill (or sounding like a very gruff man, although in this case the animation also played a role).

I went with the American male as that is what I am.  I was disappointed. Some of his answers kinda sound like a football player that was hit in the head too many times. I thought the English male had a bit of more emotion attached to his voice than the American but he didn't fit my male warrior, I felt he was more of a diplomat than a warrior. I could see him as a mage..... I Can't envision a male warrior swinging a two handed ax, finish the battle then decide to retire for a spot of tea.

Both women have beautiful voices but the American female sounds like she is just causally reading lines. I love the deeper velvety tones of her voice, but the emotion was a bit off, it lacked excitement sometimes. The English female has a very beautiful voice that I could listen to forever,  but anything other than an elf mage and I can't run with it.

I tried a male dwarf and Qunari and neither of the voices fit. I Wanted a deep gritty voice for them.
