It's a shame to see fellow Americans embrace mediocrity for the sake of feels. This only subconsciously tells the girls who won that they'll be punished for being successful, and that other peoples' feelings in regards to being outperformed takes precedence over their achievements and potential advancement in life.San Bernardino, Calif. - - A Southern California high basketball coach has been suspended and faces accusations of mercilessly running up the score after his team won a game 161-2, one of the most lopsided scores in state history.
Arroyo Valley Girls' coach Michael Anderson was suspended for two games after the victory last week against Bloomington High.
Anderson said he wasn't trying to run up the score or embarrass the opposition. His team had won four previous games by at least 70 points, and Bloomington had already lost a game by 91.
"The game just got away from," Anderson told the San Bernardino Sun on Friday. "I didn't play any starters in the second half. I didn't expect them to be that bad. I'm not trying to embarrass anybody."
He says if he had to do it again, he'd have only played only reserves after the first quarter, or, "I wouldn't play the game at all."
But Bloomington coach Dale Chung says Arroyo Valley used a full-court press for the entire first half to lead 104-1 at halftime.
"People shouldn't feel sorry for my team," Chung said. "They should feel sorry for his team, which isn't learning the game the right way."
Anderson has served one game of the suspension, a game his team won 80-19 with his son Nick at the helm. He'll return after sitting out one more.
"He's a great X's and O's coach," Chung said "Ethically? Not so much. He knows what he did was wrong."

It is considered unsportsmanlike to run up the score on opponents, and some consider Politically Correct opinions as valid rules. I agree with the former; disagree with the latter.
In this specific case, I do not fault the team or the coach; only other option was to quit at some point.

i made more of... rhetorical remark. because:

kekeke.

If anything, I'd say that "coddling" (from a sporting perspective, AKA not really playing the game, just letting the clock move) the opposing team would've been infinitely more disrespectful.
See football WC's Germany vs Brazil, for example.

Keeping in your starters for an entire game to run up the score would be a dick move, but when you put in your second line (as this guy did) and you still score a huge amount of points, I'm not sure what the alternative is. Tell your players not to try? I would think that would be extremely patronizing to the other team, and less respectful to them than simply badly beating them would be.

I'd rather the team straight whoop my team's ass than act like we're not good enough to hang with them(even if we ARE not good enough).
So this is bizarre.

Whole thing seems stupid, especially since the coach obviously wasn't trying to embarrass them due to not playing any of his starters for the last half of the game.
To be honest I would probably disagree with suspending the coach even if he had played his starters even if it is a dick move to do. It's basically a case of offending somebody being a punishable offense, which I find to just be absurd levels of political correctness.

It wasn't letting people sit on it properly.

But seriously, suspending someone in that situation was the wrong thing to do.

This is way beyond stupid.
Are those same people that suspended the coach going to suspend the players if they get strait As on their report cards, since it would be offensive to the F students?

If anything, the OTHER coach should be suspended from his own team management for losing.
And how the hell do you play an entire game and just score two free throwns? Did they pitch a team of leg-amputated leprechauns against genetically enhanced Michael Jordan clones?
Two points ... that is a single regular score for a throw. Hell, even if all you do the entire time is desperate longrange throws, chance would be you'd get at least one in for three points. I played Basketball for a couple years and even that one time where our trainer thought it would be funny to put our team (just won the regional league without a single loss) against the junior girl team (all three/four years younger and a solid head smaller than everyone but the smallest guys of our team), which was obviously a bloody retarded idea with predictable results; even they scored into the double digits (and not all of those points happened because we were going easy on them, those girls were nimble!) and those girls were two age classes below the one we were playing in our league ...
How can you fail so hard? HOW???

He put in the bench players, it's not like he kept the starters in for the whole game. I don't get it, really, what's the big deal. I mean what's he suppose to do??? Go and get the Jr. High team and put them in..... LOL.
Losers are losers. That's why they're losers. This isn't teaching the scrub losing team anything. It's teaching them that someone will cuddle them and protect them from the 'bad man" when sh!t gets real in the world.
FYI.
No one will. When you're a scrub in life, you get fired or passed over for a promotion. No one will be there to punish your boss or the opposing non scrub who gets the promotion.
Bad life lesson for the losers.
Get guuuud or get rekt!

I suppose the correct action would have been to just throw the ball five times into the spectator masses and whoever caught it was going to play from then on, no substitutions ...
Other than putting the bench players on the field, there's nothing a coach can do short of leaving with the entire team (which afaik means he concedes the match for an automatic win for the other team).
