I want to avoid any confrontations with spiders for as long as possible.

Hm...not that I recall but they're not something that stick out to me.

I don't think there are any in Champions of the Just.  There are no spiders in Fallow Mire.  Stay out of the caves in the Storm Coast.  And avoid the Canyon and south-western region in Hissing Wastes  And the cave to the north in the Oasis.  And the Caves in Western Approach.  Just don't go in any caves.

Yeah, Stormcoast is really the worst offender when it comes to spiders in this game but they are restricted to the caverns, otherwise I don't recall seeing that many of them in this game. Also, second on the spiders in the Hissing Wastes' canyon. As a note, they all respawn as far I have experienced.

How far into the main quests of the game do spiders appear?

I believe they are always there. If a certain quest has been activated, there are darkspawn as well but I don't think they replace the spiders, unfortunatley.

You will absolutely encounter spiders during Here Lies the Abyss, ironically.

One more question. Is it possible to romance Cassandra without going through any missions that have spiders in them?

(to Feranel) Oh yeah, good thing you mentioned. It's like they wanted to make up for the lack of spiders in the game by piling them into one quest. Maybe they were saving them?

If you are arachnophobic, it fits horrifically well with the theme of that quest.

Yes, you just have to kill some templars.  I don't think any of the romances involve spiders haha, wait, Blackwall may want you to go to the caves in Stormcoast, so his might, but everyone else's is pretty much people. Hell, Sera's is just talking to people.

Edit: Also, just a heads up, animals (especially spiders) don't have the Overwhelm ability like they did in previous games, they are much more manageable than in Origins where they would chain-maul you, corrupt spider's poison is a beast though, be ready with dispels.

Blackwall has a quest about finding Grey Warden artifacts which I believe do not take you by spider-filled caverns, though you might encounter darkspawn-filled ones. There is a quest that does which has, among other things darkspawn popping up on the surface of the Stormcoast. It has you go into caverns to seal the tunnels.

Wow, this Stormcoast sounds like a very unpleasant place.

Thanks so much for your help guys.

It makes playing the game so much easier when I know what areas to avoid

Are the spiders as realistic as they were in Origins?

Stormcoast isn't all that bad, the caves are very optional and not the crux of the story in that zone, really only one quest will -make- you go into the caves, and because that quest involves darkspawn you can actually sit back at let the Darkspawn kill the spiders.

The Canyon in the Hissing Wastes however contains the only vendor for Tier 3 armor schematics, but it's filled with poison spiders @.@

They look the same as they did in Origins if that's what you mean, maybe higher resolution, but pretty much the same. They are just less of a "OH GOD GET IT OFF ME GET IT OFF ME!" Tactics-wise, however.

Bears on the other hand, eeeesh.

(to Kahlan) If it is any consolation, it is relatively optional to go into the Stormcoast caverns. The only major quest you would have to prepare yourself for is "Here Lies the Abyss".

The very first time I played Origins, I hired it from BlockBuster and it cost me $7 for 3 days. I started as a Dalish Elf and as we all know, the first 5 minutes of that play-through involves spiders. I wasn't going to spend 7 bucks and not be able to play the game. So I fought the spiders and it wasn't a big deal. When I eventually bought it on PC there was no way it hell I could face them a second time.

Thank the creator for mods!

In a way seeing spiders in that quest makes even more sense if don't want to see them ever.

Some of the runes require spider glands.

There are spiders in the Forbidden Oasis. In one cave there are several

In the Western Approach some can be found in caves

There are even Spiders in the Hinterlands, two locations one in Burt Men and one in Witchwood.
