Thanks, the Hinterlands was another place I wasn't sure about.

...Hinterlands is the starting area. Sure, its possible to spend half an hour there, but you'll be missing out on a ton of content. It's pretty much the only true open world map in DA:I.

But like others said, you are going to run into a high numbers of spiders in a story mission. I'm arachnophobic. The spiders in DA:O and the big ass spider in one of the DA:2 caves, traumatized me. Thankfully, BioWare removed the "tackle" ability from the spiders in DA:I. And due to the high speed combat, they go down much faster. And their bodies just turn into bones, so me an you don;t have to close our eyes when we go through their corpses.

You're bound to run into them into this game. I suggest switching to a ranged companion/character and just hanging back. The big ass, story related spider in this game did not look very spider like to me. More like a lobster.

There's a one large specimen called Snowball in a cave under a keep in Crestwood, but I suppose size makes no difference when talking big already. There will probably be a mod turning them into nugs or snoufleurs or something so you need not be passing out on those areas, as a vendor in the Hissing Wastes in a bloody spider-infested canyon has rather nice stuff you'd want to buy.

Spiders are probably easiest to deal with as a ranged character. Plus using leaping shot when they come at me then knocking them down and running away never gets old.

(to VanguardCharge) I'm pretty sure DA:O was what caused some players' arachnophobia and I'm willing to bet it can be tied to the Overwhelm ability.

I was like :o the first time it happened and there's the sounds.

There is a giant spider in the emerald graves during a quest to do something or other in the northern part of the map.. bout as big as a giant if the giant got down on all fours. But. There really is nothing to worry about in Here lies the abyss. Just keep your back to it and you will not have to look at it.

Go near the door and couple dozen dungeon crawlers rush you.

You know, I have never met someone with a crippling fear of something that made them unable to play video games with the object of their fear portrayed in some manner...

You probably don't want to go in the caves underneath Caer Bronach. There's a huge ass albino spider called Snowball down there.

Once I learned the spider drops a recipe - it had a snowball's chance in Caer Bronach to survive.
