I usually just overwrite new save with older save, but lately I decided to create a new save file. That's because I had some game-breaking bugs and I decided to create new saves. I'm still overwriting some stuffs, but mostly, I'm creating new save files.

Do you overwrite your old save? Is there any benefit to saving your old files untouched? Is overwriting a save file like in SOZ game bad decision?

i remember a long time ago (before the final patch) there was a rumor to never overwrite, because it was resulting in corrupted saves. I scratched my head because I've *never* had a problem overwriting saves. (i'm a Quicksave, Quicksave, Quicksave kinda guy)

if there was a problem on some systems, I imagine it's been patched up. That said, I like to have a long list of saves just for testing stuff.

And i still recommend players (including me) keep 'strategic saves' while playing cause ya never know,

Same as KevL (except for the Quicksave habit): never had any issue with overwritten saves, and I usually play with two or three saves.

I'm currently playing through the OC and I'm not very far into Act III. My last save was #112. I save at the beginning of something new and sometimes when I'm half way through a long quest. It's a habit after being burned a few times. I was burned real badly while playing SoZ right after its release (the entering Port Llast a second time problem). You never know when a save will become corrupted or receive a bad variable, causing the errant variable to be carried forward like a disease. I use the quick save between the hard saves.

I remember the rumor about saving over old saves causing the new save to be corrupted. I don't think it happens.

I open the save folder and delete old saves, but I still keep a handful from each Act. Saves get to be over 100 MB.

It sounds like a misunderstanding or misinterpretation of the idea that if you overwrite your latest save, and something happens to it (for unrelated reasons), you've lost more progress than if you save in a new slot, which applies to anything you're saving, from games to word processing files.

I use quicksave most of the time, and occasionally make normal saves for major milestones so I can go back to them if I need to.

I can see how overwriting a save could result in corruption, given that the game-save algorithm may be careless.

Let's say you quick-save at gametime 10.  You now play on, get an unwanted result, load an earlier save at gametime 5, play a while then quick-save at gametime 8.  That quick-save folder may have leftover files from the gametime 10 save if the whole folder wasn't deleted (for example, area state files for areas you haven't entered yet in this go-round).
