Oh lord the disappointment, when I found out.

I decide to talk to varric and I ask him about hawks companions and he tells me Fenris is alive, im like wait i killed that mage hating SoB.

I checked my DA keep page and it says hes dead and im sure I uploaded it. That bugs me sooo much.

well now to start over and hope it works this time.

lastly a question is there any way to tell if you world state actually was uploaded correctly? I mean for some dumb reason Bioware has to make the default world state the absolute worst possible state so I kind of refuse play that way (mass effect 2 was the worst lol)

Is there someone I can talk to really early in game?

Earliest opportunity is talking to Varric right after the first cutscene in Haven's chantry, I believe. That'd be, what, 10 minutes after the end of the prologue?

I believe you will get a msg that a custom world was loaded at the start of the game but I'm not 100% sure of that.

Varric and the Requisitions Officer validate your choice 1hr into the game.

I can entirely understand the frustration.

Strangely you don't notice the extent of the customisation when you are in a custom world (because it's in tune with your world)

but when something isn't the way it was, you notice instantly.

If it's any consolation, I abandoned two part-play-throughs (the best part of 200 hours) by choice

because my decisions were not working for my intended love interest.

Mine didn't load the first play through either.  Throught something was up when I talked to Varric at Haven, knew for sure later.  Didn't want to start over, so I just went with it, and my second playthrough (with my choices loaded) is my "canon" game.  If nothing else, its interesting to see the little things that are different.
