So about the rape thing. I doubt that was ever intended to be an option for the player to do. I think Gaider was just saying there was to be a story about a rape having occurred to someone in the past. My guess is that it involved Sera being raped by a human male during her childhood. Which would explain her sexual preference. The story may have even culminated in her finally tracking the rapist down with the Inquisitor's help and possibly killing him. It would make sense that a story like that would be scrapped then. Way too much drama for what the game is supposed to be.

 

Personally, I am content with the romance options because my main character fits with Cassandra perfectly. So even if she were the only romance option, my playthrough would be well met. But I do agree that more options for other players is always a good thing.

 

Am I misunderstanding what you just wrote or did you just say being raped would explain why someone was gay?

It is more special because people in general have a very well-tuned moral compass when it comes to murder and don't tend to redefine it whenever it suits their immediate desires. There are still large problems with how people interpret sexual assault as some sort of grey area with blurred lines, most rapists actually don't believe they are rapists, or that what they are doing is sexual assualt...most murderers are fully aware that they are murderers and that they are commiting a murder...so there is a difference which makes it a much more difficult topic to present within the context of a game.

No, I wanted Cassandra. My idea was just for other players who found no fitting romance option for their own custom character, and the custom romance would not be mail order. It would be real people making real advances toward the custom character. It would be up to the player to respond to those letters or not. Though I do recognize the possibility that you were just being humorous here.

It's not that it's weird no one is getting raped, IMO. Its just weird I haven't encountered it. Im seeing posts about Cole and Iron Bull. I don't normally put them on the same roster, so I don't hear their banter often. I'm not going to do that now that I know, though.

Can't she just not think males are sexually attractive? I don't, and I'm not aware that this requires an explanation.

Why would Sera need a reason? just cos she's gay doesn't mean a guy made her that way by rape

Sorry I know that I'm butting in a little here but one instance that I recall being discussed was Gatt being a sex slave. It's triggered by taking Spirit Cole with you on Iron Bull's personal quest. Or one of the things that gets triggered. Though its the only one I recall off the top of my head I have heard there are a few notes or codex entries you find that mention it but I almost never read them so I am unsure if that's true or not.

I wish I could recall which character thread it was in but someone did put of screen shots of the dialog about it. I am assuming there are different dialog for it since I got something entirely different while on my run with a more spirit like Cole.

To those asking about my pervious statement, the hypothetical storyline would not be needed to explain anything about Sera, but it could explain something about her. That was my only point. It's possible she never found males sexually attractive, or it's possible she did at one time and then stopped because of something traumatic. It's all really moot though, since no such storyline exists in the canon. I was just speculating on how the rape story Gaider talked about may have been implemented in the game. Like I wrote before, I don't think it would have involved the Inquisitor actually making the choice to rape someone.

If you claim that sexual assualt is more common than gay sex, than yes, counting instances is the only way to compare that statement. Because being the victim of sexual assualt is an instance, it is not a sexuality or lifestyle - why are you comparing the two?

In order for your logic to stand you would have to count every single act of gay sex to compare, as opposed to just the individuals that identify as gay or bi.

Aside from Gatt the tranquil talking to Mother Giselle IMO hints that she was seriously abused. I read it as including physical and sexual abuse.

Cole himself may have been abused. I can't recall.
