I agree, male inquisitors have so few options, and only 2 girls.  Statistics show that straight male gamers are the ones who mostly play this game, so I find it odd that 2 not particularly pretty or interesting girls are the only female romance options.  At the very least they could've added Sera or Vivienne.  I really thought that Sera was cute.

Other very attractive options would be Dagna and Harding, who also are female dwarves, and female dwarves haven't been an option yet.

I so glad I'm not the only one who felt that the romances were unbalanced. I don't have anything agianst the options the chose, I just wish they put a bit more thought considering Straight male player make up the majority, I have nothing against gay/lesbian romance or straight female options, I simply they evened it out and added at least 2 more options for straight males only.

I think what ended up happening is that given the extra year they had for development, they had enough time to add to existing characters - who happened to be male - but not enough time to add in entirely new characters. And I just want to point out that while male gamers still are the majority, it's not as big a gap as one might think. I believe the numbers are closer to 48% of gamers being women, and 52% being men. Some of the examples they include do put men at higher numbers than women in consoles, but a growing trend appears to be that more women - in general - are playing video games.

(I just did a quick google search 'how many women play video games' and this seemed like the most cohesive result for the numbers I wanted info on.

Also, I have no issue with anyone wanting more LI options :) I definitely think we ladies got lucky. This is just me throwing some info on the post.

My personal opinion on this? I think talking about "balance" invites toxicity. I don't really care about balance as long as everybody can pick an option and be happy with it. If the girls get an extra LI this time... I'm happy for them! (Especially if one of these romances is quite a depressing cliff-hanger.)

That said, I would personally have loved 1-2 physically more appealing female LIs (straight, bi, or lesbian, don't mind either). Character and story are very important for a "mature" romantic relationship, but I do confess missing a personality-wise engaging and seriously attractive LI such as Leliana and Morrigan from DA:O (shame on BW for not allowing Shale as a LI!), Jack and Miranda from ME2/3, or Merrill and Isabela from DA:KW.

Even with how I feel about people complaining about romances, at least it's a relief from all the raging about patch 3 not giving people what they want.

Edit:

So, rather than repeat some version of what I usually say, I will instead request that, instead of having our 25th identical thread about romances cluttering up the forums, that perhaps you could use the most recent thread on the subject, which is still going strong:

Limited Romance Options

That thread is about, essentially, exactly the same thing as this one, and you might as well use it, instead.

Depending on preferences, some of us only get one.

Sera's it for me... nobody else is appealing. I only get her or Josephine. I don't do politicians and that outfit she wears... no. Just no.

Also, that post about "Lesbians raging because BW are saying they're dumb."

Well, sorry but if you think Sera is dumb based on how she talks I'd have to say that you're pretty stupid, and narrow-minded. You think intelligence equates to "big words" and bland, pseudo-intelligent personality?

Yeah... nah.

How somebody talks does not = intelligence.

I'd say she's pretty smart, she's pretty much survived on her own all of her life. Joined up with the Red Jennies, plays pranks on nobles and is skilled with a bow.

Of course, this is only an opinion. You're entitled to yours. However, I'm just getting sick of people saying that Sera is stupid based off of what she's like on the surface, when there are subtle indications (if you actually use your brain) that she actually has somewhat of an intelligence.

It's whatever. For male heterosexual players Bioware gives us 2 choices, one person that you can't even have in your party, and the other looks like a lesbian and is generally annoying. Bioware conveniently ignores the fact that a substantial majority of its players are heterosexual males, and instead wants to cater to women/gays. If they want to do that, then fine, nothing wrong with that, but not if the the majority of players are treated to a lesser experience.

I'm mostly just angry Leliana isn't a romance option in this game.

Sera and Solas are pretty much the same in terms of attitude, Solas just sounds smarter about it.

I actually have a deep respect for Sera on an intellectual level; even if she doesn't give the impression of "being deep", a lot of the stuff she says has a lot of philosophical points that I find myself mulling over. That she does not engage us in discussion over it, or over many things, is pretty much what every character does. Her points aren't exactly hard to grasp or invalid either; you can make a very solid argument for everything she believes. She may not, you know, be very introspective, but her beliefs aren't thumb-tacked in there either.

That said, female Elfquisitor has the most romantic options, hence why I decided on it in the first place. Sad, but true.

Basically... if you're a female elf, you get a smorgasboard.

While I respect that BW made it more realistic with the NPCs having both race and gender restrictions (like in real life, some people might not be sexually attracted to Asians. Same thing.) It's also a little bit unfair on others...

I guess if you can't find your one true love on DA, be single.

Hey OP, you think you got it bad? Us dwarf lovers get NOTHIN'! Sure, there is Harding. But she is not even a real tomance option. After all, she gets no cool sex scenes with your pc or anything. It's maddening! >_< :(

He's probably just upset that he doesn't get anyone as cool as Dorian.

(Disclaimer: your mileage may vary on who is or isn't as cool as Dorian. Cassandra and Josephine are great, please don't kill me.)

Here's my wishlist for romance options, BW please comply immediately!

A butch female qunari

A dwarven shemale

An elven cougar

A male gay only bear

A golem (Only available if you choose the support Branka option in DA:O, things get lonely down there by the Anvil)

A tranquil

I -- I don't even know where you get the creativity from, but all I want to do is now stalk your every post and creepily evaluate how unique they are. All while from the safety of my very tiny cubicle.

THOUGHTS on reptilian transvestites?

The fact you tYour post proves you have been conditioned by pop culture and society to only accept one type of look for females.

You've been getting everything you wanted for years. Now that its not just about  male gamers you get all whiny about.  I have news for you. WOMEN PLAY GAMES!  The LGBT has a large game community and we BOTH have the right to be represented.

My male human mage romanced Cassandra, which fits perfectly. I don't need any other romances. But I agree there weren't enough.

My idea from the start was to have a customizable love interest. Kind of like how you can go talk to Varric and go to the custom Hawke screen. Well, you should be able to go somewhere in Skyhold to create your custom romance.

Like, go to Josephine and she tells you that you have received numerous love letters from those all over Thedas. She has had them ordered and categorized. You then pick a letter out of categories, such as "From Females" or "From Males", then by race, then the love interest's sexual preference (either straight or bi, homosexual would obviously be determined by gender earlier on), and then finally by personality type. After that you could go to the custom character creator to determine what the love interest looks like. You could then have someone send for the person to be brought to Skyhold.

This romance could work out or not work out. Upon breaking it off, a new letter could be picked. Or if the romance is into threesomes you could pick another letter immediately.

Theoretically, you could start a harem.

Character reactions from Cassandra and Iron Bull would be particularly amusing in this case.

The whole idea that romance options should be "balanced" is silly to me. Sorry.

BioWare is probably one the publishers which tries the hardest to represent sexuality and gender identities. And it's getting a lot of flack because nobody can ever be happy. Actually, out of all the people I know, outside of online friends, I can count on my fingertips how many are gay/bi (including me). Get over it.

I simply they evened it out and added at least 2 more options for straight males only.

Why would they have to be available for straight males only? What do you gain from the romanceable character not being available to other PCs?

For that matter, how could Bio even implement the "straight" part of that? I'm not aware of any way for the game to tell if a PC is straight or bisexual until after the game's over and it can see who, if anyone, that PC romanced.

I also think the romance options are "unbalanced".  As a female playing a female character it saddens me that I can't romance the most interesting, funny and well written character in the game, ie Dorian.  It seems to me that the easiest way to deal with the the romance issue is to make all romance options available to whoever plays the game, regardless of gender.  That way you could pick the character that interests you the most.  I got attached to my romances in previous Bioware games.  That is not the case with DA:I.

Well, bi Dorian wouldn't be the same Dorian anymore, just as for example bi Morrigan wouldn't be the same. I am not arguing against the unbalanced thing, but I am glad there are some gay characters. Very well written ones, like Dorian, are unique in video games. I won't ever romance one of them, but I am glad they are here, if anyone was willing to sleep with anyone, it would feel very weird, at least to me.
