I just wish the romances were a bit longer - for a game with an estimated 150+ hrs of play time, the romance scenes don't crop up enough (IMO), having said that - romancing Cullen was one of the highlights of my first playthrough, even though it did the DA2 hated fade to black thing again. >_<

The only thing that really irritates me is some of the camera angles - when I FINALLY get my Inquisitor to kiss Dorian, I don't want to look at the back of his damn head, or have the camera panning aimlessly off to the right - I want to see them kiss damn it!

I have nothing of import to add to this thread aside from stating that I strongly support the inclusion of the aforementioned bear romance option.  Blackwall came some close, but alas he bats for the other team.   :(

I so glad I'm not the only one who felt that the romances were unbalanced. I don't have anything agianst the options the chose, I just wish they put a bit more thought considering Straight male player make up the majority, I have nothing against gay/lesbian romance or straight female options, I simply they evened it out and added at least 2 more options for straight males only.

Dont confuse the straight male player with the straight male character. Straight male players have the option to romance any of the romancable characters. I will warn you though: it involves role playing. It may sound scary but it can be quite fun ;) .

Hmmh, I wonder why people who do these threads always disregard that lesbian and gay PC has same amount options as straight males. They have unbalanced romances as well. Personally I'd love to have more romances for everyone, if Bioware would have made some of straight male LI's bi or pan it would have balanced numbers but I guess they had vision to not to.

The romance seems to still follow the three stage formula (acknowlegement, pursuit, conclusion), which practically ends after the sack. Not much interaction after that thought the option to invite LI for a kiss and the end scene do give a bit more to it. But it should have something in between too, especially in such a long game like DAI. Like in DA2 where you get to talk about sleeping arrangements with Merrill. Something little but still nice.

Wow.... What a spoiled man-baby >:/

"wah wah, I'm gonna kick up a fuss and act like a tool cuz heaven forbid once in a blue moon something not cater to the straight male gamer".

I had to romance freaking Anomen like 5 times cuz he was THE ONLY OPTION for female gamers, and you are gonna sit here and blubber on about having one less option then the ladies? JFC. I despise "straight male gamers". You guys a scourge and you are seriously bringing down the industry.

Everyone has more than one option.

Female humans get one extra

female elves get two extra

This is hardly a crisis.

You don't get it, sir.

It's a war won in inches. They get one extra option here and there. Suddenly all the harems are belong to them, and male PC's have to live in the doghouse, and that's only after they purchase the doghouse DLC so they don't just sit outside in the cold while all the ladies take his castle.

I think what ended up happening is that given the extra year they had for development, they had enough time to add to existing characters - who happened to be male - but not enough time to add in entirely new characters. And I just want to point out that while male gamers still are the majority, it's not as big a gap as one might think. I believe the numbers are closer to 48% of gamers being women, and 52% being men. Some of the examples they include do put men at higher numbers than women in consoles, but a growing trend appears to be that more women - in general - are playing video games.

(I just did a quick google search 'how many women play video games' and this seemed like the most cohesive result for the numbers I wanted info on.

http://www.washingto...s-of-gamergate/

Also, I have no issue with anyone wanting more LI options :) I definitely think we ladies got lucky. This is just me throwing some info on the post.

I'm afraid these statistics are not relevant for the topic on hand. There is a break-down of these numbers and it turns out that of the people who play action RPGs, about 70% is male and 30% is female.

If I recall correctly, a while ago Bioware posted on facebook that of all the created inquisitors 68% is male and 32% female. I think it is a fair assumption that, proportionally, more females play as a female inquisitor than males play as a male inquisitor, meaning that 32% is an upper bound on the percentage of females that play dragon age games.

I fully agree, straight male characters should get much, much more straight female characters. We are most probably the biggest monetary contributors. We are the norm among the gamers in general. I find it unnecessary and insulting that BioWare officials like Mister Gaider has stated that they don't care about the numbers. GOTY celebration etc. says otherwise. It is time for a shift and focus on the straight male playerbase. I want straight female elf, or better, two of them.

This thread is either going to get very tense or go off the rails into crazy/scary land or crazy/fun land.

Don't really have anything on topic to say though.

Yeah, I'd vote for a dragon as a bisexual LI in DAI. I believe there's a league for bestiality lovers that would support the case - just imagine the possibilities! Most PC game ever, ever released.

For too long the gaming industry's kept the straight male player base down. The reckoning is upon it, and this injustice will no longer be endured.

It would be nice if for once the angry straight guy would fight for the rest of us romance deprived groups as well.  Gay Males and Lesbians are both really lacking in romances too you know.  Actually I feel worse for the lesbians, cause one of their options is Josephine and she's so Disney that I'm not even sure if sexuality comes into play.

I also think the romance options are "unbalanced".  As a female playing a female character it saddens me that I can't romance the most interesting, funny and well written character in the game, ie Dorian.  It seems to me that the easiest way to deal with the the romance issue is to make all romance options available to whoever plays the game, regardless of gender.  That way you could pick the character that interests you the most.  I got attached to my romances in previous Bioware games.  That is not the case with DA:I.

Not to say I disagree with you. But in this case, it would also require complete re-writing of his personal story-arc. Which would pretty much destroy Dorian we now know.

That's a funny statement, don't you think? What makes you believe there are more "SMP" (best way to avoid "straight male player", cause I can't bear to hear or read it anymore) than SFM? "Most probably the biggest" - well, I think it's more "most probably the loudest". Female players have been quiet for a long time, not "whining" about how poorly they have been  treated in the games. We accepted it more or less. We wanted to play and we did it as a silent min- or majority. Heaven forbid that BW for once have more "romances" for ladies and count them as human beings worth getting a little more attention - and to make it worse, count gay/lesbians as human beings, too. SMP - you are not the center of the world anymore...

You can't truly believe that after Bioware games turn to be most PC ones (even if not needed to) due to feminist organizations and their loud cries over female image desecration, feminine sexual exploitation and so on.

You know... I'd prefer that. They should concentrate in rivalry/friendship and ditch the romances that often just annoy people (KOTOR2 and Obsidian FTW).

You're talking about feminist organizations and I've talked about female players. That's a little different, don't you think?

But I have to admit, it's nice to see that in some games the women are a lot more than the obligatory stupid little damsels in distress, so if that's because of the influence of this organizations, thanks!

I suppose the surest answer is the minority of female players in general.

Yes it is funny, I'm quite happy that we norm, that is straight people are more than 97% of human population. Well, let's call it an educated guess. Yes, we are the center of the world and we will be most probably. Just because some are not included in the game it does not mean that they are not treated like human beings. I can't imagine female gamers being silent, if anything I find them the loudest of all, alongside non straight people. Female gamers are most probably a small percent of us all. We male players, don't have problems with male characters being sold, losing limbs during their daily jobs and turning into a shack tied amorous victims. You won't find males concered about their 'image'. We are slaughtering and we are being slaughetered.
