Disclaimer: I've played every Bioware, Black Isle and Obsidian product using Bioware's engines.
The storyline in Origins is even better than the dark twist in Baldur's Gate and Knights of the Old Republic. I never had so much emotion invested in a storyline or personal character than Origins. My first playthrough ended in shock and a little disbelief. I couldn't accept the storyline's logic for the endings, but as I read the forums and wiki pages entirely devoted to this incredble game, I begrudgly accepted the original logic put into the story. I played it through again and again and again and again with different results (of course, now I was aware of what response worked toward my goal), but it didn't take the fun out of the journey.
My first playthrough: Alistair is a crying drunk. Morrigan left me without having my tainted baby. Loghain made the final killing blow on the Archdemon. Leliana left with me to adventure. Sten still didn't have cakes, but left with his sword. Zevran was put to death on his failed assassination attempt. Shale and Wynne looked for a cure. These were all options without knowledge of the consequences. I learned a lot about my decision-making and thought, "I can do bettter." That's the illusion and fun of Origins. Go back on your journey and start fresh and mold the story the way you want it to end. Origins for me is the golden standard of RPGs. A masterpiece.
