Heroes of the Storm.
Looks like less of a pissed off nerdfest than Lol, so I figured hey, why not.
Then, after purchasing, I realized it was Beta, and when out in full the game is FTP.
Well, screw me.
Damn you Morhaime.

remember the old days to get big files you had to have a FTP program? I actually miss those days.
In some cases, free-to-play is pay-to-win.
Blizz is generally not as extreme as some other examples.

You just got *****,bro
And alas, its probably only that pay wall that keeps it from becoming that 'pissed off nerdfest'.
Brace yourself for the opening of the floodgates once it gets out of beta.

Wait you have to buy it to get early access now? I've been in the alpha for a couple of months now, but I didn't pay a dime. Just checked the little beta participation box on my bnet account. Weird.
Good game though IMO.

I always wondered that about some games, most recently H1Z1 ... why do people pay to play an "early access" (must be the new marketing term for alpha) game that's going to be FTP upon release. I mean ... they are PAYING for testing an unfinished product that everyone will have for free once it's deemed finished.
I mean from the developer standpoint it's a brilliant move, you get lots of playtesters doing your QA and not only do you not have to pay them ... they pay you. But I for the love of it can't see the appeal for customers to jump at the sight of this "deal". Do they get massive advantages later when the game is released (aside from having a modicum of experience from playing the game), say a couple free airdrops (H1Z1s P2W change is bit of a controversy after all)?

I don't know about H1Z1 or HotS specifically, but most early access games on Steam offer the buyer no benefit at all once the game is declared "finished". You're paying for the opportunity to play the game as it is at the point in time where you bought it and actively help the developers QA it.

I paid for H1Z1.

I don't mess with FTP, i think they're not worth it honestly.
I don't think I could bring myself to pay to get access to a game that is F2P.
Of course I got an invite a few months ago, so I got it for free =P

I doubt I could let an insurance co. store my stuff indefinitely and then sell me renter's insurance either...

That is unfortunate.
Uh...
Sorry. But I need to laugh

Ok, sorry. But, pay more attention to what you buy... Next time you'll try do buy a console, only to get a Console Photo. ![]()
Well, at least you weren't like some of the people I play games with.
They had it in their heads that ArcheAge would be the next great gift to MMOs, so they went off and bought the $150 founders pack for the whole six month alpha deal. Meanwhile, I waited until it was free, realized the game was complete crap, and laughed manically at the ones that had lost $150 on it.
The cognitive dissonance was strong with them.

*all cases.
*all cases.
Not necessarily.
As an example, Guild Wars 2.
Unless we're talking about winning at fashion...then yes, it is pay to win... ![]()
