Even the outfit Lel wears in Inquisition is very similar to Liara's in ME2....
It has more in common with Kasumi, IMO.

You know, OP. I'm with you on that, but as much as I like to see a new companion, and let Varric retire to live in Kirkwall in peace (since he has enough of bullshit), and I personally think there's not much left to learn about Varric. However if Varric return as a companion in DA4. You can officially call him the writer's pet or Liara of DA.

I don't see the point in adding Varric to the next game... of course, that all depends on the plot.
Fair enough he was being questioned by Cass, that much was evident in DA:2. But if the Inquisition itself is just a passing mention in the next game, then I think it's time to ditch Varric...
I love them both ![]()
Varric's a hairy dude.
He automatically loses. Boobs > Muffchest
Well, he loses for you.
I will take a man with a hairy chest over someone with boobs any day of the week.

He's already had his cross-game glory. We had Ogren from Origins to Awakening, Anders from Awakening to 2, and Varric from 2 to Inquisition. If the next one is Tevinter as everyone expects, clearly our next cross-game companion will be Dorian.
Which I wouldn't say no to. I like his wit.

Varric isn't the writer's pet. He's the author-surrogate. That's why you can't (rightfully so) get rid of him.
No,
Liara is a blue stalker who can't take no for a f***ing answer.

Varric is a fun dwarf who helps keep the Inquisition grounded.
I like Varric, I feel you have a strong connection with him from DA2. Although he does seem distant in DAI, but I believe it's just part of him growing up so to say.
Also in relation to getting rid of him, he can either leave to Kirkwall or go find Hawke if you chose to let him/her live. But that's at the very end.

Don't get me wrong I love Liara, i have a playthrough when i romanced her,in fact i pretty much have a playthrough for every romance romance in ME(while in DA i stick to romance one character over and over in each game
)
But my canon romance is M!Shepard/Kaidan, so in order to have Kaidan run for commander in the beginning of ME2 i had to ignore Liara alltogether, because even one dialogue and she's the automatically Shepard's one and only
It worked on PC but on PS3 its Liara allways even with romanced VS(almost typed Leliana both times
)

You're empirically wrong*. Muffchests are superior.
*According to scientific survey of me, my sister, and a few of my friends. completely unbiased. For sure.
Way too forced as your friend (Both games), impossible to get rid of, complete writer's pet.
ok now fight amongst yourselves
Except you can't romance Varric and Liara doesn't have a good sense of humor.
I always thought of Varric as the Garrus of DA. He likes to pretend he was actually there in every world shaking event (even when he wasn't) and hangs around hero's hoping there greatness/popularity will rub off on him.
I pray no one in Dragon Age ever approaches the levels of blatant favoritism as Liara or Garrus. Give everybody a moment to shine. I think in that department, Bioware is doing well with Dragon Age.
Leliana is Liara of Thedas, minus the religion. Morrigan is Miranda of Thedas. Varric is Garrus of Thedas, except you cannot romance him. Alistair is Kaidan of Thedas, plus the nobility part. Merill is Tali of Thedas, minus the Blood Magic. Josephine is Kelly Chambers + Samantha Traynor of Thedas.
Yeah this is all very simplistic but this is that kind of thread, is it not ? So fire away people !
When Leliana starts gobbling up spot light and character content, then we can debate if she truly is the liara of Dragon Age. And before anybody replies saying she is, stop and think -- Does Leliana have twenty banter conversations, compared to your favorite characters ONE throughout the course of the game? Do Leliana's conversations have a weird romantic undertone every time you talk with her? Does Leliana go off alone and retrieve the Wardens body and then give it to Tevinter Magisters to resurrect, because she "Couldn't let you go."... Even though you romanced Morrigan or Alistar instead?
I don't see it.
Varric wasn't there in Origins while Liara had to be picked up in ME1 in order to move forward (so I left her for last)
Varric is important to the plot in II because he is the one who leads to the Idol that kicks start everything (Liara isn't needed for ME II except to tell you where Thane and Samara is - which EDI could have done if Bioware had given her the chance to do so). Even the DLC with Liara was useless.
Varric is brought along first because of Cassandra and stays because of his part in the war in Inquisition. He wants to fix things while Liara is shoved back onto your ship while t Kaidan/Ashley is taken out for a good part of ME III because the Reapers are heading to Mars. (Give her another ship, she'll be fine)
To be honest - Varric tend to have the worst time. Someone who considered as a friend sparked a world wide war between the Templars and Mages which results in a lot of people getting killed.
Liara has...nothing. Sure - she is the prothean expert but in the end, it was useless because it was Reapers we were facing and we only needed her to mind-rape Shepard to get the location of where Saren was and off we went. (And if you left her till the last minute - it took...what 2 minutes for her to discover this so...)
And yeah - her mother dies but it barely comes up if you left her for last so no effect really.
Varric is not a romance option much to my disappointment - you don't even get the chance to flirt with him in Inquisition!
Liara is shoved in your face as a romance option to the point that even Kaidan/Ashley points out that she likes you even though you were a complete and utter ******/jerk to her and you flirted ONLY with Kaidan/Ashley so you have to go all the way to her and make it point blank clear that you are not interested in her in order to make sure you get Ashley/Kaidan.
Then you have to repeat yourself constantly over the next two games to make sure she doesn't get any ideas about Shepard. (at least in my playthroughs it felt like that - and considering the fact Bioware pretty much set her like she is in a romance with Shepard, it gets tiring)
So in all - Liara continues to be Bioware's pet while everyone tend to get shafted. Even Varric - who I adored in II and began to feel sorry for in Inquisition because of events.

This.
Here i thought they tried to make a Tyrion Lannister

This poster isn't a hundred percent wrong. He's the only person that jumped from DA2 to DA:I as a companion. While fan favorites like Morrgian got a promising role. They were not given as companions
