I don't see the point in adding Varric to the next game... of course, that all depends on the plot.

Fair enough he was being questioned by Cass, that much was evident in DA:2. But if the Inquisition itself is just a passing mention in the next game, then I think it's time to ditch Varric...

Yeah. they won't though

they think he is too cool and a lot of people have a boner for him

Nah Leliana deserves that title a lot more :P

Reasons: Liara and Leliana both were in all three parts of ME/DA ; No one gave a damn about Liara in ME1 until BW gave her own DLC and made her a star, no one gave much damn about Leliana in DAO until once again BW made her a star ; Liara was given most important role for no reason besides being just writer's pet Leliana also gets to be main special star for no reason(left hand of Divine,Inquisition's spymaster + Divine) once again for being writer's favorite ; You can't kill Liara and you can kill Leliana ; Liara has once again most important role that will impact future generation in once of the endings and Leliana also in one of her endings can become Divine and have most important role that will again impact future generation.

So Varric would be "close to for Liara" but Leliana deserves more that title since she just as Liara was trough all three parts of series plus Leliana fits Liara more then Varric because in DA2 Varric was already important character with most important role while once again I repeat Leliana was no one in DAO(unlike Morrigan and Alistair) just like Liara was no one you much gave a damn for in ME1.

That's cute--BSN Liara hate is still a thing. And now all up in my DA, no less!

If I click the wrong button once talking Varric I'm not suddenly dating him. Points to Varric.  Liara will always be that blue chick in the back of the Normandy while me, Garrus and Wrex saved the galaxy.  Kept trying to volunteer her for Virmire but they forget to put that option in the game.

Liara has been an important character to the plot. Varric is more like Garrus in the sense that he's just a popular character, but their overall plot importance can be somewhat questioned. They are the protagonists canon friends.

Varric's a hairy dude.

He automatically loses. Boobs > Muffchest

That is also true

I like Varric so he can be friends with Hawke and my Inky as long as he likes. :)

Incorrect. Morrigan is the Liara of Dragon Age.

I prefer quasi-neutral moderate pragmatists. So I get along with Varric.

That's only because everyone's too busy focusing on the chest.

It is, after all, all about the chest hair...

I think Garrus is probably the closest equivalent to Varric in Mass Effect.

Both are charismatic jokers who never really take a strong stance in opposition to anything the player character does, and both are presented as the canon bro.

Leliana is a closer DA match for Liara. They both follow a similar character arc and have similar personalities, although I'd argue hardened Leliana is a lot more ruthless than Shadow Broker Liara.

What's this about. Writer's pet? So what. Just because you don't like a character and the staff had plans for that character doesn't make them a writer's pet. We don't know what they have planned for these charactes and just because we don't like a character doesn't mean Bioware has to drop them. If that were true my dislike for Cullen should have made sure he never got as far as he did.

Couldn't agree with that. Varric was present, yes, but he was by no means forced upon us. He had plot relevance during his introduction, and the rest of the time he was completely optional. He had deep, rich emotion, and wasn't a spaghetti "stick to the wall" type. We were also not required to be Varric's best friend.

Leliana and Liara definitely share some similarities (I guess that's why they are my faves). Varric is very much the bro like Garrus, they are relatively inoffensive and never challenge the player character.

Plot armor

All inquisition companions except for Blackwall have plot armor.

Idk about him being the Liara of DA, but i could get on the Varric isn't all that great train. The funny thing is I can't really pinpoint what it is about him that doen't do it for me. It's not like his whole character setup as the dwarf who isn't very dwarfy turns me off. Idk if it's me just overlooking some of his layers, but on the surface he's pretty shallow. I don't remember his interactions with friendly Hawke all that well (I haven't played DA2 since launch and never really used Varric all that much to begin with), but as the inquisitor it never felt like he wanted to have any sort of genuine relationship with anyone really (besides Cole and maybe Cass, but she's a bit of a stretch). I think Sera painted the picture pretty clearly when she said he's "always saying something, but never saying it straight". He's always reluctant to give any real information about himself, and if you press him he usually just blows you off while using his humor as a defense mechanism. I guess I sort of just figured out what is I dislike about him, it's like he's always wearing a mask.

No way is Varric the Liara of DA. Leliana is clearly the Liara of Dragon Age; the parallels between their stories are too close to deny.
