How is Leliana the Liara of DA?

If the reason is that she "became" a spy in DAI, well, she used to be a spy in Orlais before DAO

That's what she does best

Leliana is not the Liara of Dragon Age. Her plot relevance is extremely established, and you aren't forced to talk about how much you like her. Besides, Leliana is actually a capable spymaster

Leliana is shoehorned in at every turn, in my eyes she's the Liara/Wesley Crusher of DA, no question. I'm actually surprised (but happy) she wasn't in Awakening. I bet she's the Divine in canon, maybe even to the extent of BW pulling an Anderson/Udina and making Cassandra or Vivienne have stepped down between games with Leliana taking their place.

Leliana is established as having a very conflicted personality.  Is she a saint or a killer?  She doesn't know, but her internal conflict is constant through the games, save DA2 where she is pretty much there for a cameo.  Yes being brought back from the dead is a cop out, but for that to happen requires some really specific actions from the warden.  Liara starts as some gullible virginal type that hero worships Shep, turns into a super elite corporate raider, then to the Shadow Broker, and finally becomes this top secret researcher with an attitude.  All the while she's trying to get Shep to dump whoever he/she's with and date her.  Leliana might get into a cat fight with Morrigan, but if I'm chasing Merrill or Cassandra she doesn't try to cut in.  The fact she threatens your life when you try to date Josie is actually pretty funny.  Leliana might be ever present, but her character is at least constant.  Liara is all over the place.  Varric is of course just Varric, paragon of manlihood.

I think it's the whole "doing unpleasant things for the greater good" thing. Both characters want to "harden" themselves and believe it's necessary, that's why they are doing things that they don't like.

Liara starts as some gullible virginal type that hero worships Shep, turns into a super elite corporate raider, then to the Shadow Broker, and finally becomes this top secret researcher with an attitude. All the while she's trying to get Shep to dump whoever he/she's with and date her.

That is simply untrue.

Leliana is the Liara of DA. Both have nice assets. And I mean spies and otherwise. PLus they both go on their crazy ruthless trips from time to time.

Varric is probably just the Garrus, although not half as cool. I wonder though what would Alistair be then....the Wrex?

Either way Corypheus is certainly no Harbinger.

Cory is most certainly Harbinger. He's just as much a nonthreat.

Sovereign felt really threatening because he had a great air of mystery around him. The Architect is probably the closest to Sovereign. Whereas with Harbinger we already learned everything we were going to learn from Sovereign and Harbinger was constantly getting beaten left and right so he always felt beatable.

Blueprints for the Catalyst?

The deus ex machina plans to build the deux ex machina.

ME3's story was terrible.

Really? So even playing Dragon Age I can't get rid of the memory of this blue stalker?
