I just started a playthrough for Solas' romance so he may or may not make this list soon.

I'm currently on my 2nd playthrough and the "romance" is no good, I don't understand the people who got so attached to the char, it started great but as time goes by he's just annoying me more and more and more ...breaking up with my elf .. pffft HUGE FAVOR.

Solas is such a beautiful, intelligent character and he's very charismatic - it's hard not to be drawn to him.

 

The welsh accent doesn't hurt, either.

 

However, my favourite romance is (obviously, going by the signature) Sera. She was very fun and genuine, and her romance felt very sweet and fulfilling at the end.

 

Can't fault that in a partner, pixel or otherwise.

To each their own. A lot of people enjoyed Solas's romance because of his ties to the plot and because he's a fascinating character. The romance shows you a side of him that you don't otherwise get to see.

I romanced Josie, and plan on romancing Solas. I tried to, at first, but was disappointed that he wasn't into anything but elves. As a female Qunari, my options were slightly limited. I also wanted to romance Cullen, but that'll be another time. He didn't like Qunari either, which was disappointing.

 

I almost romanced Sera for the hell of it, but she just isn't what I like.

Dorian (Dorian is one of my favorite characters, but I didn’t like how his entire character arc seemed to center on his sexuality. The one thing the writers did right was Sera was not center her entire character on her being a lesbian. I wish they had done something similar with Dorian)

Solas and Cullen are still way ahead of the pack

I wonder whether Solas & Cullen are really the most popular romance or just among people who respond to that poll? There are good amount of active Solasians & Cullenite on BSN.

 

Also, how can Bioware track down which romance is the most popular now that the romance achievement is all mixed to "Beloved and Precious"? Counting achievements on each romance was BW's method to see which romance is the most popular for DA:O right?

My favourite romance in DAI would be 1) Cullen 2) Josie. Yes, I am a sucker for romantic stories...  I would like Solas' more if he isn't a god. I like his personality and intelligence but being a god is too much for me IMO.

I am thinking about that too, considering only like 20% of people unlocked the 'beloved' trophy in PS4. I would say the fav romance is no romance at all lol. It is hard to find out the real stats as people may need to find their fav romance eventually through several pts. And many do not even complete the game.

I am non religious so romance arc with religious people is viewed in a less favorable light by me.

Not really. I will preface this by stating that I am a straight male. I liked Solas romance arc because of the simple idea that you can now romance an intelligent and intellectual male in a Bioware game. 

 

In other previous Bioware games, you have always had the intelligent female romance. Liara, Miranda, Tali, Morrigan, Merrill, Josephine, Samantha. 

 

However, the male love interest is almost always either a playboy with swag or a bumbling sappy nice guy or a brooder. I do not really like either type of men and as such romanceable characters such as Solas and Dorian was a welcome change to Alistair, Iron Bull, Cullen, Zevran or Fenris. I mean, I really wanted Mordin as a romance for my Female Shepard but he turned her down so when we get a Mordin-esque male romance, I am not going to complain. 

 

This is kind of an issue for me because the intelligent nerdy guys are never really popular in fiction except in recent years. I mean, remember Milo Thatch ? Loved that guy and the movie but then it was not very popular with almost everyone else. I doubt people even remember that Disney even made an Atlantis animated movie. 

 

As for the romance failing, it hasn't. The romance arc for Solas is not complete, it is not yet resolved. This is very much like Morrigan's romance arc in DAO, especially if you performed the Dark Ritual with her. We need a DLC to resolve it.

I'd say that Cullen and Solas probably have the highest number of passionate fans - so fans who are motivated to go out and post on tumblr and reddit and BSN. Cullen because he's been a longtime fan-favourite and being in all three games has allowed his fanbase to pick up steam, and Solas because of the dramatic nature of his romance and the fact that it ends on a cliffhanger.

Well, we don't exactly know what is meant by "god". Solas says himself in one of his banters with Cass that he doesn't believe the elven gods were "gods" as we usually understand the term. Just very powerful beings. And Solas sure doesn't act like a god. He makes mistakes, he's unsure of himself, and he apologizes when he treats others unfairly. I'd say that he's actually one of the most human characters that Bioware has ever produced.

 

And, really, that's why he's probably my favourite romance in the entire DA series. Not because he's a "god" or a tortured soul or anything like that, but because he's a fascinating character. There's so much nuance to everything he says.

On a slightly different note... am I the only one who wants Duke Otrano of Antiva as a future companion/love interest? He's good-looking, skilled, and (perhaps surprisingly) also a man of honor.
