I suspect Solas might be the preferred romance of the younger crowd, the type who prefers tortured types, ala Loki. That kind of thing is popular right now in the tumblr-aged crowd...although I could be wrong.

I like it because it's plot central, and Solas is an intellectually deep character with many layers. I like Norse culture and I've never seen that Loki movie. It looks kind of silly. Just as I prefer my Sherlock Holmes in the dusty pages of my Complete Arthur Conan Doyle.

 

The romance was subtle and mostly composed of Mordin-esque philosophical discussion. What's not to like about that? By this point, I realized it might also be more plot central than I'd anticipated, and I was hooked:

 

 

I've done Blackwall's romance and am halfway through Cullen's, and everybody's got their own preferences, but for me neither of those can hold a candle to Solavellan, even with its pits of despair and unresolved ending.

Despite the avatar I chose (I love tea, Solas, WHAT is wrong with you!!) I prefer Cullen & Blackwall for the lady inquistors myself... pretty much because I prefer a nice resolution

 

What Addai said, I'm 41 years old and had planned to romance Solas since before release, I prefer brains over brawn.  I've no doubt that you're partly correct though, but he has a fair few of us older ladies among his fandom, many of whom were on board pre release, it's all about the intellect .  To finish..I also love tea.

Cassandra!

There's something incredibly sweet, once getting past all those layers of armor (figurative & actual armor), and Cassandra and Inquisitor get really adorable.

 

I wouldn't have expected to like Cassandra as much, but then again, straight male inquisitor only get two options, unlike the straight female inquisitors four. Annoyingly out of balance, that.

Should've made Leliana romancable (to both genders), depending on wether or not she romanced the Warden (Keep choice).

And Josephine for the Ladquisitors*. Her romancing the Inquisitor would probably work to her advantage "agenda" wise. Because wasn't that the reason she wasn't romancable? Makes no sense.

 

 

*coining that term to counterbalance the stupid "Femquisitor", just call them the Inquisitor, seriously. lol

So far; 

 

1 - Cullen - hits all the cheese points perfectly. 

2 - Cassandra - still very good cheese, but more like good store-brand cheddar vs Cullen's 36 month old Gruyere

3 - Dorian - stupid me took the G-rated "let's take this slowly option" because I thought we'd build up to hawt nudies later, but it was worth it for all the smoochin' and the doe eyes

 

I was disappointed by the Blackwall romance, and that might be because I was spoiled on his personal quest. (I imagine it would be super dramatic if you didn't know about it.) I liked the Iron Bull and Sera romances very much, but I really view those companions as bros. (Also I only romanced IB by accident when my Quizzy stuffed up the Dorian romance.)

 

Haven't yet done Solas, not sure about Josie. (I do like the idea of dueling for her, though.)

And once it's resolved (assuming it resolves well) he could very possibly become one of my favorite romances, since I do like his combination of wit+intelligence+confidence. Until then, I do prefer the happier ending you get with Cullen.

 

On a slightly different note... am I the only one who wants Duke Otrano of Antiva as a future companion/love interest? He's good-looking, skilled, and (perhaps surprisingly) also a man of honor. 

 

NPC would make more sense and only if there is a game where you have to visit Antiva. Ontrato is a noble who is a master with rapier swords. We do not know how good he is with Isabela style duelling or actual combat. I would prefer to see him as an NPC if we come across House Ontranto in the future.

From an story perspective, I would Solas, easily.

 

But other then that, I vote for Josephine. I appreciate the dintinctive lack of drama in her story, even the whole fiance deal is presented rather humorously. So it's really nice that for once, we have an romance that goes perfectly fine with pretty much no issue whatsoever.

I chuckled at Iron Bull being at the bottom; that's who I ACTUALLY romanced, and I couldn't agree more lol So weird and creepy and such a disappointment. The romance kind of manipulated my character and turned him into a sex-hungry maniac, too. Um, no thanks.

 

I've buckled down and made a female dwarf and am going to try for Blackwall, so I might be able to vote for him in the poll. 

 

Once mods start pouring out, I'll be able to try Sera (need better qunari hair), Cass (f/f mod), Cullen (m/m mod), and Solas (m/m) mod. COME ON MODDERS

I actually find a kind of appeal from Solas, about that li'l bit of arrogance in him. Not too much because it'll make the character just Urrgh! but Solas has just the right dose. A small dose of arrogance makes his character quite attractive for me.

Hmm... I was thinking about making a male warrior for her but finally it's the warrior stuff that's bugging me. What specialization & weapon style are you planning? I can't make 2 warriors combo to work on my PTs 

 

Somehow I just want to tell a story with Cass + Warrior inquisitor. But it's the game dynamic that's ouch...

Were modders able to locate dialogue spoken by the male Inquisitor VAs during Solas's romance scenes? I'd heard it was recorded, but was it all on the disk? It'd be great if they were able to get m/m versions of the romance scenes, all fully voiced.

I agree. Before the game was released Cullen didn't get that much love around here. I'm not sure about Solas but that he is the favorite romance at the moment was a (pleasant) surprise for me, too.

Hah. I don't think that's the entirety of his appeal, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

Well go both S&S and be really really defensive, maybe have two attacking mages in the party? Or go 2H and have champion Cass protect you as you carve through enemies?

I've heard a few recording a few lines of what appears to be Solas m/m romance from unused files. IIRC it was Dana Duchy who found them, along with Cullen m/m lines.

There are indeed male files recorded. Typically they'll record lines for everything regardless of plans to use it or not. You can similarly find lines for female Tali romance, male Alistair romance, ect.

 

But the plus side is these lines can be used by clever modders, which is why I imagine they don't delete them.
