@Ceru Don't despair! I understand the need to create beautiful drawings, but we are also having fun and experimenting ![]()
To me, the main point of darkness is the colour of the sky, it looks like nighttime. I followed Tesh' example and looked for a reference, I think you want your sky to look something like this
So I think you need to add lighter tones to the sky that reflect on the ground, the tree and the girl. I think the girl and the tree should have lighter tones around the edges to show that the light is coming from a low point from behind. The first part of this video on shading metal includes tips on how to reflect light coming from the sky depending on where the skyline is set. It's very useful, I guess the same tips are valid for smooth surfaces, you just have to keep your edges... well, smooth
You can just say "shod this" and not make it realist, but I think it would be good at least playing a bit with colour and light, even if you won't be including them in the final piece (that's the good thing of digital art!)
I need some opinions, too. I followed Ceru's advice and looked for paintings I like to copy their colour scheme. I'm finishing the greyscale shading of Ghilan'nain, and for the watercolour version I'm thinking of using one of Mucha's Precious Stones series: either the Ruby or the Amethyst one, though I'm leaning more towards the Amethyst. Here you can see all of them. Of course I'll just use the basic colours, not all of them. Thank you for your help!
