@ Ceru - Not so much that it is forbidden, it's just better for your state of mind. It's not good to obsess over paintings (and, believe me, this is very common). There is a point when you have to declare something finished, and move on :)

I like having the breastplate in the picture, because it is an integral part of Seb's character design. If you go for a comic-book style, then the costume and hair are more important than the facial features. Question is, do you care about perspective? If perspective doesn't matter, then stick with the original or Modification 1. If you cannot get the perspective of the breastplate right, and it bothers you having it in the wrong perspective, then Modification 2 would be better.

Either way, I like the portrait :)

Thanks.

Actually I'd like to have good perspective. What bothers me with modif 2 is the space around the head & hood. TBH I rather like the space & canvas size (portrait) of the original & modif 1 since it gives a better impression of verticality. Modif 2 is too square for me. Other problem is that I can't keep modif 2 without cropping the lower end without it looking weird.

Hmm... Probably Modif 1. Idk. Minimizing the error. And yeah you're right about not obsessing about it. This will never end otherwise.

You're going to go to Tumblr too Tesh?

Not sure about Tumblr yet. It seems a rather scary place right now. I will have to design a unique watermark before I will go on there, however.

I got an invite to another community, though. It's just starting up, so I am not sure if it will survive, or if it's a good idea for me to join. It's called Crowdshare, and you can find it here.

It's a place both scary and full of wonderful stuffs & junks tbh. Afterall it depends on how many people you are following & who you're following.

Hmm... is Deviant Art really dying? Because I still see zillions of things there everyday. And it's quite an established community already.

I saw some of the people I've been watching move to Tumblr, but I still have lots of ppl I watch posting there actively. Many among them are industry professionals. I don't think it's dying. On the other hand, it's good to get more exposure, so maybe having both Tumblr and DevArt is a good idea :)

I like modification 1 better, I feel like in modification 2 the gaze loses strength.

I was on DevArt for some time, but there are many professional artists there and I felt my beginner art didn't fit; I needed something like this group, to encourage me to keep learning, and DevArt is mostly exposure. But I think Tesh would fit perfectly :) I haven't checked Tumblr for art, but from what I've seen in the forums, it's become very popular and specially for fanart.

Believe me there's all level in Dev Art. Visit the beginner's unit and your drawings are already way above most...

Vor, Ceru is right. DevArt has all levels. And I mean all. So, don't be intimidated. Getting more exposure for your art is good, no matter the level, since you could have people help you improve - just like here :) Anyway, if you decide to get back on DevArt, make sure to add us :)

Tishina's Zhenya. I tried to put her armours. I'm not sure about the canvas orientation. Which version do you think is better...? Or should I just make landscape canvas with painted background?

The first version has a stronger focal point. There are a few sweet spots for placing your focal point, as described by this image:

Ah that's a great help! I heard about the Rule of Third somewhere, guess that this is the case too. Thanks ;)

I messed up Curly's hair to make it less plastic at lunch break and this is the final sketch. Start blocking greyscale tonight because yay this week end I stay at home!

Is there a beginners unit in DevArt? I didn't know! Or perhaps it didn't exist when I used to be active, it's been a loooong time. Maybe it's also because I used to post mainly photos. Ok, I'll give it a try! Let's see if my old account is active, dust and tidy it a bit. Of course I will add you ;)

Ceru, I also like the first version better. I know the rule of thirds from photography, it's very useful for composition. I'm reading a book dealing with composition, tomorrow I'll post some of the advices.

The link to the Cullen image is broken :(

Yup, there are several beginners unite, for examples:

Thanks for the advice Vor, I'll keep the first then.

Well... last tweak for Cullen on his lower lips & try to add that cleft on his chin.

Ok, my old DevArt profile is cleaned up and updated; if you see a certain LadiesandGents added you, it's me :)

Ceru, the lips are looking yummy now. But shouldn't the left eye and eyebrow be a little smaller than the right? (I know you said those were the last tweaks, please don't kill me!)

Aayyy you're right! I forgot the plane change there, it shouldn't be that long at the left.

Thanks for pointing that. Okay anyhow I still tweak the lines even now.

Whoops I forgot the beginner unit links in Dev art, here you go. There are much more than this anyhow;

http://rising-artists.deviantart.com/

Some of them have really good tutorials.

Ceru, the lineart looks really good. You got the proportions correctly :) The only thing I would point out is that the right nostril should be a bit higher. You are going to shade this, right? :)

Assassinizzy!! You changed the colour scheme, right? I loved the first one, but this one is also nice, it has an arlequin-esque look that definitely fits Isabella :-)

Glad you like it, Vor :) I'm taking a bit of a different approach with this character drawing. Let's see if the experiment will work, or fail miserably :P

@Tesh: Izzy looks badass. I won't want to cross her

Yup I'm going to shade him. Greyscale first and we'll see. Honestly I really want to go full colour, just following the initial colour scheme since it's already really great. Currently tweaking the sketch one more time

First of all, a big "thank you!" to this group, because I've drawn and painted more in the last few weeks than during the last five years  <3

Second, I feel like my mum learning to use her smartphone, but I don't get how DevArt groups work  Are you supposed to just submit your art and make comments on others?

Hehe same here, I started something I really wanted for years finally :D

Hmmm about comments I guess that it's up to you. I mean if it's someone from this group more than possible we've already comment everything on this group. Up to you? Tesh usually comment on both though...

Okay last version of tweaking Cullen's eyebrow & right nostril...

@ Vor - Groups have a tab at the top of their front page, usually, where you can select "submit your art", or something on those lines. You submit to the appropriate folder (many groups have several categories, and they like to have ppl submitting to the correct folder), and then you wait to be approved. Some groups are instantaneous, some take longer to accept/reject your submission.

I am glad that this group is helping the both of you. The most important thing is that you are enjoying yourselves :) Keep practicing - you have great imaginations :)

As for comments - the only reason I comment both here and on DevArt on the same drawing is because I like to...

I love that gif :D And you do a great job encouraging others, your comments are always very insightful and help us focus on good things when we tend to focus on our mistakes. And I'll stop already, I don't want to make you blush :D

Ceru, teh Cullen looks better know. I am glad this group was originally a Cullenite one, many Cullens everywhere!
