Lol, awwww Tesh, your cat seems to have been a magnet for your work! I have three cats myself and I don't work with wet mediums because I'm sure they'll have itty bitty hairs all over them

Courage, Qween! I know it's hard to redo, but I'm sure you'll make the eye even better than before!

Qween, do you have white pencils? Probably that might help??

Aw shucks, thanks for the faith Vor :) and I do have white pencils!! I haven't used them yet because I didn't know what for! :D good idea.

Hey cute little tid bit, I just got out of my drawing night class and it turned out the model was listening to the DA soundtrack the whole time. Hah! I've never met a fan face to face IRL so that was cool.

Okay off to start my hurlock!! I'll post Nat to the finished gallery over the long weekend we have here...I think I need to give her some space...somewhere safe :)

Courage Qween, you know sometimes "accidents" on artworks give the best results :D

It's not probably what you intend at first but if used correctly that can even give more personality to the artwork ;)

Hehehe that's great XD, now you can probably drawm him/her with Warden armours? XD Just kidding :)

Can't wait for the Hurlock, that'll be something.... (scary but still...) :D

He looks great, Ceru! I love his expression and the dramatic lighting effect. Maybe the griffon won't be as hard as you imagine? They're fur and feathers, right? Long strokes for the feathers and more short and flat for their fur? good luck! I'm sure it'll look amazing! It's the perk of drawing fantastical beasts, they're all different ;)

Ceru, Cullen looks really great so far :) The eye whites should not be quite so brilliant, though, especially for the eye that is in shadow. Remember, the eye needs to be shaded like a ball, and the lids cast shadows onto it as well :)

I like how you made the armour so massive. Makes him look tough :D

Keep it up :)

@Qween: thanks :)
I mean the griffon insignia on his chestplate. I haven't got any slightest idea on how to do that. How's the drawing ? Do you manage to retouch the artistic addition bu your son?

@Tesh: thanks :)
Ooh true, I always forget that despite how many times maby books keep repeating that. Whoops... Well that can always be corrected easily I guess.
How is Izzy and Hubby painting? :)

I haven't drawn anything whatsoever for a month, I think. So, things have come to a screeching halt. It was a combination of being too tired to do anything after work, or too stressed because of the house hunt. Right now, I have to pack all our things up for the move, so it does not look like I'll be able to doodle anything in the near future. And then I have a conference to go to... So, I'd say, there will be hardly any time for me to draw until mid-June...

But I will check back here a few times a day, to make sure I can at least help you lovelies :)

Oh I'm sorry, I thought you were gonna draw a griffon too :D that's definitely a tough one...maybe there's a reference out there that is adjusted for the angle you need??

Tesh, good luck with the house hunt and all you have to do! I know there are weeks for me that are just insane and I feel myself get a bit rusty. I end up doodling on meeting notes during meetings :) hope things settle for you soon!

I think I've wrapped up Nat. Her hair isn't the way I'd like but it was my first attempt at realism so I'm chalking it up to experience ;) I'll post her soon!

Edit: maybe this angle will help a bit, Ceru?

Lots of support, Tesh! I've been having some hectic weeks myself, so I totally sympathize. I appreciate you stopping by to help and will welcome your gorgeous drawings with open arms when you have time again!  <3

@Ceru you're doing a great work! Maybe you can look for high-res pics of the Warden armour in DA2, to get an idea of how the carved effect is shown?

@Qween Looking forward to seeing Nat!

I want to do a watercolour inspired by a beautiful stroll around the park I had in my hometown. I had this gorgeous view of some bushes on the front, with the grass dotted with flowers running up a slope, and a poppy flower on the middle. I made this graphite sketch to get an idea of how lighter and darker colours should go, I'd love to hear your opinions on it (and also tips on this shading polygons thing, I tried to use polygons as a base but later realized that I didn't have a clue of what I was doing xD) The dark dot on the center is where the poppy would go.

Ceru, this is a bit late but thanks!

Here is my sketch of Cullen and my friend's Quizzy:

Spoiler

I might scan it and color it, I think.

Anyway Cullen as a Warden is looking great! The griffon on the armor will probably be tricky... good luck!  :D

Qween: Yay! Can't wait to see Nat!

Tesh: Good luck with house hunting and work! I hope it goes well for you  :)

Vor: The layout of your sketch is looking good so far! Although, i think using polygons for stuff like plants and bushes might be hard since their shapes aren't very polygonal (unless of course they are trimmed hedges with special shapes).

I think when you do the bushes in the foreground the parts of the bush closest to the viewer should be the lightest in color, with the farthest part of the bush being darker. It will help it look like they really are near to the person looking at the painting.  :)

Also I must admit that you have inspired me to start using watercolors again... here is some color blending practice of mine.

Spoiler

You can see how the paper has warped from the water!

Vor - I'm sorry I wish I knew more about polygon and landscape drawing to provide advice. It think you have a great start there and have maintained perspective really well!!

Pro - Cullen and quizzy caught in the act?? ;) I love their facial expressions, they look great! seeing color would be great too!

@Qween: oooh thanks :D. Yep that help. I also get the concept art for the GW's armour.

(and yess I'm also drawing Pouncebeak the griffon... a real griffon. And her brother XD. And your suggestions about the feathers are excellents I'll try that).

@Tesh: Ouch, good luck for the househunting Tesh. Courage. Thanks for taking time to come here too. (but please don't force yourself okay?)

@Pro: thaaanks! And can't wait to see them coloured. They lool cute ;)

@Vor: Actually if you put the poppy in that black spot, wouldn't the focus point rather be too in the middle...? Idk...

Thank you all for your help! I'll probably be starting the watercolour today.

@pro Yeah you're right, using polygons seemed like a good idea to lay out shades and lightings, but bushes aren't very polygonal  :D Regarding shading, I've noticed that bushes and trees seem to have lighter colours on the top and darker on the bottom (due to light from the sky, I guess) You think it's still better to reverse the shading and make the bottom part lighter? It's lovely to have inspired you to use watercolours! It's such a gorgeous medium  <3 And yes, with non prepared papers using them equals to insta-warp!! It can be removed a bit by keeping the painting under some heavy books for a few days... but better to use proper paper

And I also love your friend's Quizzy and Cullen's expression... someone was about to get naughty!

@Qween don't worry! Knowing that perspective looks good is very important info as well.

@Ceru You're totally right, I divided the sketch into thirds and the poppy falls to the centre; I moved it to the side so it's near an intersection of the lines.

Been at home with a cold, so I also started copying the B&W picture with charcoal-graphite-crayon-thingy. I really like the feel of it, I'm looking forward to get some willow charcoal sticks to get that "paint" feeling you talk about. But these graphite crayons are also fun and I realised kneaded eraser is my best friend  Really useful to tone down shadings, I'll also try tissue towels when I get to the darker areas. At first I was going for a realistic look for the face, but I ended up liking the angular look I got with the first strokes.

Random thought while drawing: when copying this picture first came to mind, I think I didn't properly consider how much time I would have to spend staring at the lady's behind xDDD

After about three hours studying her buttocks, I think they came out pretty well. Bigger than the original, but yay curvy women!

Vor, shes looking great!! Her musculature in her back shows well! How are you liking the willow charcoal? I love the dramatic effect of the background against her. One of the Proko videos I saw had him filling in the background with powdered charcoal so it's even and not so labor intensive

Thank you everyone for the kind words :) I appreciate your understanding and support :)

@ Vor - OooOooooo I like big boats and I cannot lie :P Your figure drawing looks really impressive :)

@ Pro - Cullen and your friend's Quizzy look adorable :) You should definitely colour it.

Keep up the good work, everyone!

Heyho, just to say, everyone please behave well OK?

I'm having lots of things going on IRL, probably it's for the best that I'll just enter the "stalk this group & threads in silence but don't post anything" mode. I'll try to keep an eye on this forum as much as I can but I'm not sure it's a good idea for me to post anything a while (let's say a few days, or a week or two probably, Idk). Or probably I'll go offline for a while. I don't know.

Since Tesh is also quite busy, please don't burn down the threads. I'll try to be back as soon as I can...
