I do not know for you, but when it is sunny and warm outside, I do not want to draw anything :/ (I just want to stay outside, enjoy the good weather, listen to swallows, walk in the woods etc ...)
I am drawing this, but it takes a looooot of time since I only draw the evening when I'm not playing The Witcher 3 (I have to confess, Geralt is my new obession
)

Alistair! I love how you work with graphite, Mor. I have to admit, though, that to me Al got a little hit with the ugly stick in DAI ![]()
I've had a deserved rest after these last weeks (the most active thing I did was completing Jaws of Hakkon), but I plan to finish my charcoal copy tomorrow.

I am an Alistair hipster, I like the original better!!
And besides I played on Xbox, so vanilla Alistair FTW!! ![]()
Qween I forgot to answer you when you asked about the willow charcoal, I didn't try it yet, this was using my pitt charcoal crayons (and kneaded eraser almost more) I am posting the finished piece on the gallery if you want to see it, btw ^^
I have free time again, so I will go to a fine arts store and buy me some willow sticks, I want to try that organic feel! (me likes the messies)

I was so tired today, but I felt like drawing so I whipped up some quick sketches for DAI-themed concepts.

Let me know how you like the charcoal! Yay messy!! I like drawing the structure and placing the features with graphite, I feel more in control, but then to shade with willow is fun fun!

Thank you so much, Qween, glad you like them!
Don't be so hard on yourself, if I'd had the "accident" you did with Natalie... she'd have ended up looking like Hodor ![]()
Don't give me ideas with Cullen using his cape as skirt... or yes, give me as many ideas of half-naked Cullen as you want
Thank you for your comment; I already said it, but I always find it curious how I am so sloppy with my own clothes but love to make up outfits and look at fashion shots (though I like them better if they don't feature ultra-skinny models...
)

There's so much about high fantasy fashion that's exciting! It was a big 'ol missed opportunity with quizzy's outfit. When fantasy fashion becomes real fashion, I'm sure you'll be all over it!
I really wanna draw this actually, just her back and the snake but it's metal...and that frightens me
As for Cullen...oh I shan't go there...it may involve just an Orlesian sash...

Ugh Quizzy's outfit, dont get me started on that one... I was sooo excited when I learned that we would attend an Orlesian ball in the game, I was all like "Ohmygod THE DRESSES!" And then the mission started and my Quizzy showed up in that tin soldier uniform... my face went like this:
![]()
And the rest of the ladies were dressed in the same cake top decoration outfit you see everywhere in the game, and I thought Celene would be so over the top and then... I'll leave it already
Let's brighten up by imagining Cullen with Sebastian's Crotch of Andraste.
Hehe you're right! I'm just waiting for the day long skirts, crinolines and hats with feathers are back in fashion; we already made it back to the 70s, I won't have to wait that long right? ![]()
That picture of the outfit with the snake is just amazing, go for it! Here is a great video by Jazza that Tesh or Ceru (sorry girls, can't remember who!) recommended me when I was about to draw the mask of my steampunk Ghilan'nain. It's a bit long, but I think you get great foundations for shading metal surfaces.

Oh, my, so much to catch up on
We've moved to our new house a couple of days ago. We still have lots of things to unpack - including my art supplies. Work + health issues + moving + conference = no drawing until mid-June. Can't wait to get it all over with, tbh... ![]()
@ Mor - Ali looks scrumptious
I would make the line of his cheek a little straighter/sharper. Now it looks like he has a bit of baby fat ![]()
@ Vor - I really like the Dalish dancer. Reminds me a little of Sinister from Marvel Comics ![]()
@ Qween - I want that dress
You should definitely draw the snake. Metal can be challenging, but it will be good practice, especially if you want to draw armour at any point ![]()

Ooooh so many new things!!!
@Mor: Hoo love that Alistair's look. You really develop a very distinct style with very high contrast, that's really beautiful
. Love how you draw the nose & lips by drawing the shadows instead ![]()
AND BRING GERALT ON!!!
@Vor: I love the Tevinter Mage's dress, ready for an Orlesian ball? XD
Wow you're really good with the figures. Also I really like the dancer in the middle crossing his arms.
@Qween: draw it draw it draw it ![]()
Guess that probably you can always try to render metal with putting very very high contrast? Keep the highlight white/near white and really dark other area? From what I see that snake's really shiny = bright highlight & dark areas, soft visible edges instead of gradual transition between highlight, ligted areas, halftones, shadow etc.
@Tesh: Congratz for the new home ![]()
Hope that you'll get better soon & get some summer holidays ![]()
I'm finally back home & back to drawing. Started to learn anatomy & figure drawing with Loomis' book and well... XD
Basically no idea where to start so I just copied his mannikin & models to keep in mind the proportions. It really doesn't feel right at all.

Congrats on your new home, Tesh! And lots of strength for all the unboxing
Edit: Ceru, maybe you can try thinking of some poses you'd like to draw in the future (one Alistair riding a certain female gryphon?

I started figure drawing and really loved Prokos tutorials first on gesture and he's just starting to upload his anatomy for artist series. Maybe he'll help, Ceru? I have found that learning to draw from text books blows right over my head. I personally need to see a video, because even the way to hold the pencil or the movement of the hand is a part of the lesson
Thanks all for the metal drawing suggestions. I might practice just that for a while before attempting her back!

It's true that video helps a lot. Books are great but well, sometimes having someone explaining stuffs are easier XD
@Qween: probably you can do this quick trial for practice: draw a small ball, render it with the same light sources for the painting. Something like a 5 cm ball. It'll make rendering the real thing easier. Or a cylinder.

Yeah, books are pretty difficult to grasp without having someone actually demonstrate a particular technique
That being said, they can still serve as a great source of inspiration, they can help clarify certain things, and they can complement your knowledge. Use whatever sources are easiest for you to learn from
Yay for figure drawing

I'm back at cubes & cylinders for the moment XD... It's crazy to say that I still struggle a lot to draw a really good cylinder with only 4 lines in one go.

Glad to see you both back ![]()
More volume for hair, less for cheeks ... will do or at least, will try ![]()
And Geralt? Well ... huu *confession time* if he was in my bed, I would not sleep in my bathtub *confession off* ^^ so, yes, will probably draw him next ![]()
I really have to learn how to draw a body ...'cause his body is .. huumm yummy. Did I wrote that ? noo, it was not me, I was only thinking outloud, I swear ![]()

Yessssss figure drawing XD
Your forever WIP Alistair is really beautiful, can't wait what you'll create with the whole body drawing... ![]()
On another topic, this is the "WIP" on how they make The Dam Keeper short animation...

How cute! I didn't know this short animation, do you know where can I watch it online Ceru? (even if I have to pay a bit, I don't mind supporting these things)

I watched it here:
Highly recommended, amazing art, amazing storytelling, amazing music, amazing colour, beautiful & heartwarming story really. That's one of Oscar Nominee for Short Animation this year made by (ex) Pixar animators Dice Tsutsumi & Robert Kondo. Disney's Feast won the award but in all honesty I really prefer this one.
And really can't wait for this one to go out!!! I want to go to Annecy festival just for this but apparently the screening is not really for public so well... THIS IS COMPLETELY HAND DRAWN ANIMATION THIS ONE!!! THEY MANAGED TO PUSH THINGS THIS FAR!!!
Klaus is made by Sergio Pablos, an ex-Disney animator.

Thank you, Ceru! I'll watch it tonight, love short animations ![]()
I started working on the Dalish dancer drawing; I'm using this picture as reference, it's Sergei Polunin, you may have seen him in the videoclip where he danced to "Take me to church".
I wanted to get the posture right, so I drew a first sketch to get it and then another one to figure out the general shadows over the muscles.

Your sketches look great! He is in complete control of every muscle in his body and you've captured it really well. Awesome job challenging yourself!
