Glad you liked the video! We've spoken sometimes on how beautiful and powerful the human body is, thought I would share it.

Also thank you for your words on my sketches! :-) I have to say, it's really useful to study the pose before making the final drawing (and I got that idea from you, thank you!); I've also learned that my charcoal pencil is really useful for that, since it's erased very easily with a normal eraser and doesn't leave traces. So I could take as many tries as needed without ending up with a messy sketch.

Oh my Vor, that's amazing! I love how you capture the movement :D

Although the first trial sketch makes him look a bit like Spiderman :)

It's a good idea to use the middle lines combined with articulations.

Thank you, Ceru! ^^ Oh my Vor xDD

Yes, with the middle lines they look all Spidey :D But I find them very helpful to figure out volume, the general direction of shading, and even wrinkles on clothing. Give it a try, spidey-up your sketches! :D

Ceru, I really like how you're doing the eyes. Very... lively is the word? They have that shiny look that real eyes have.

Her arm looks a bit big though, or is it an unfinished armour bit?

Thanks Vor :D

Yep you're right, the armour was too large, need refining... And probably his shoulder is also too thick O.o

@ Vor - glad to hear you liked the charcoal :) I'm so new to this too but I'm glad you're enjoying the same thing!

@ceru - lovin' lavellan ;) his proportions look great and I agree with Vor on those eyes. Is that Masterwork Prowler armor bu chance? My fav :) Would his chest plate be a lot shiner than the rest of the leather and such?

I really miss drawing, haven't done it for some time. I'm playing TW3 now and taking tons of screenies so I hope I have a good fighting, monster killing stance I can draw soon :)

How do you guys use charcoal? Long stick or break it directly to make it shorter? How do you guys deal with the messiness? I didn't manage to do it O.o

@Qween: yep that's Prowler, the upper arm guard is too large O.o

And you're quite right about the chest plate. That'll need working too

I use a long willow stick, as they're pretty thin and if you're further away from the tip, it draws lighter. It's definitely a messy medium as the side of my hands can show, and I haven't quite mastered it myself. I kind of like the messy though, but only sometimes :D it's not for everyone, of course! Use what you feel comfortable with and have fun with, Ceru! You're drawings are improving so quickly, what you're working with is working super well for you ;)

Ooo that would require me eating the box of chocolates, right?? ;) what a shame...

Great idea for keeping tidy! That or another piece of paper seems to work too.

Edit: Looks like you have some good reading there too :D I'm reading the Time of Contempt at the moment.

I know it will be a great sacrifice ... eating choclate is so hard sometimes... but I tell you, I can help you with that ... I can send you an empty chocolate box if you insist :P

As for the book, I read them again for the third time (I need to buy the last one "Season of storms")

Yay, I have to eat a box of chocolates for art!!  <3

Ceru, I use charcoal crayons which are like pencils, and they are covered by a very thin plastic so my fingers don't staing holding them. When drawing with pencils or charcoal I try to lift my hand a litte bit; and if it doesn't work, I use the stains on the paper for shading ^^

I ain't afraid of dem messies

Oooh I recognize either Ferrero Rocher's couvercle or Mon Chéri's at Morlanwen's desk XD

That's a good idea using something like that to avoid the smearing & smudging

Anyway Chocolate's good for health they say... :D

Charcoal crayons are also great ideas, thanks Mor & Vor :)

@Mor: Is the book worth reading?

Yup, it was Ferrero Rochers (a small box like this can't stay more than 2 days :P)
For the book, I would say yes, a thousand yes. My view on this book may be biased, but it is worth a try :)

(if you have the choice, try it in english rather than in french ... the french translation is ... hummm ... not bad, but far from good... or maybe try the polish version if you can ^^)

Ooohhh Cullen Dragonborn!!  <3 I really like the effect of the layout in blue and the final lineart in graphite over it; how did you like it?

@Mor: 2 days? Whew you're resistant, it'll be over in 20 minutes with me alone. 5 if my brother's around. 1 if my Mom's there too. I heard about that book too from a friend who recommend it along with another book written by a Russian about the Hobbit but from the Trolls' POV. Apparently worth reading & can give lots of artistic inspiration XD.

@Vor: the blue pencil's for the construction line actually, trying those Prismacolor's animator light blue pencil. So far love it, the pencil does not smear/smudge at all compared to normal 2H/HB standard graphite pencil and it's very easy to erase. The colour is light enough so the final graphited version looks a bit cleaner. But still needs second "sketching" with graphite before final inking digitally. Basically it's as much work as using normal pencil.

Those kind of pencils are apparently good for storyboarding too. My BFF used different colour for each character for storyboard test to see how they move around each other.

The only negative point is that it's hard to find in store & on the internet it's sold by half a dozen. So I only got to test like 3 colours up to now (light blue, blue, carmine red) & the non-copy version of light blue that I managed to get in a store. The Non-Copy version erase well but is too hard on normal 100 gsm sketch paper and too light and need extreme pushing to get anything visible & just break the paper so not worth it (and the scanner still detect it, it's a lie!), strongly not recommended. The standard version are really great, even the light blue are visible but not that visible vs graphite pencil

EDIT: Too many appreciation weeks O.o

Pug-Nug. Might sway Leliana away but Cullen doesn't like it.

Aaaahh Pnug!! Sooo cute :) I bet Cullen would love it because it's so adorably awkward...

And hey, I ordered myself some blue prisma colored pencils after seeing these, Ceru. :) I get so nervous with my construction lines being too dark that I take forever to draw them, especially since they're so important to get right! I'll let you know how I do ;)

Disclaimer: That was a photo-tracing, someone mentionned having pug & nug as pets and well... XD

@Qween: ooh tell me how you like it :)

What colour? Are you going for traditional medium though? I'm using it for digital art, not sure how it'll turn up on traditional TBH

True, I googled the use of blue pencils, and they're usually used because scanners can't pick it up? I also read it erases clean and is harder to see under other mediums, so I figure I'll try it under soft pastels, my next adventure :)

Ooo Cullen is looking Skyrim ready! He looks great, and you are really get a hang of that foreshortening, particularly with the armor!

The one that scanners can't pick up is the Non-Copy one, apparently it's for animation paper. It's really hard to make anything visible with it. If you aim to do pastel I'd say take the light blue/blue/any colour but from the Non-Erase (normal ones) and don't take the Non-Copy one. Someone told me that the Non-Copy one works well with animation paper though...

Oooh you're starting pastel? Wow it must be fun! Pastels always look fun to me anyway, tell us how do you like it? What kind of drawing are you doing with pastel?

About Cullen & foreshortening... I cheat XD. Add that armour to inventory, make my Aragorn!Dragonborn wears it & take screenies from 360°... -_-

Anyway... Keep the red cape or make it black? O.o No idea on how colours work...

@Ceru I guess it depends on how you want to colour the rest of the image, I like it better with the red cape because me likes contrast.
