No, but well... But there's nothing to do anyway. It's a cool job according to some people when I described what I do but it's everything around it that's not...

Probably it's just me in a very bad mood but I hate this drawing so much. Still this needs to be finished since it is supposed to be a gift for Solas Secret Santa in tumblr...

 

The colour is not working at all, the hair's getting done a few thousand times more and I just hate the whole colour scheme but deadline's already approaching. I've already redrawn this Lavellan at least on 5 different sketches, no time to restart another canvas.

Ceru, did you try flipping the canvas? I think if you adjust her left ear, nose and mouth a bit, you might feel better about the drawing. As for the hair, if you are going for blond, you might want to start with a darker base tone, and work your way to lighter colours. Not necessary, but it might help. And, if you want her face to be the focal point, you might want to keep the colours most vibrant in that area, and use more desaturated tones for the rest of the image.

You're right. I'm terrible with colours T___T. Up to now I have like probably 2 or 3 colour sets that I know will work and for the rest it's deadly... T__T

Well, on the other side I really LOVE drawing lines XD. Trying lineart...

 

Uthvir, from Feynite's Looking Glass fic. There's a reference pose for this one. The colour palette is freakingly difficult since the skin is golden, the hair is dark brown and the armour is scarlet. And golden eyes. Like... how am I supposed to do with the background T___T

Ceru, your archer looks amazing! Yeah, if you like lineart, then continue working on that. My lineart is very weak, simply because I prefer to paint than draw Whatever feels more fun to you - that's the point of it, remember?

Well actually painting is really great, it's just that how easy it is to slip sleep to the "orange skin" and "not enough contrast" problem...

Good work everyone! Ceru your progress is amazing, that archer looks great (one day I'll be able to do foreshortening like that!) I'm sorry to hear about your job, stay strong or as the Maori say: Kia kaha!

Morlanwen those lips and eyes are very intriguing, looking forward to seeing more 

 

I could finally draw again; there are some pics from the Museum of Romanticism I've been wanting to draw for some time (yes you guessed correctly, dresses ) and I started with one of them.

For now I just blocked a few of the main shadows and started with the bottom part of the skirt (sorry for bad quality, the scanner didn't pick almost anything, tomorrow I'll take another image with my camera)

Ok Ceru, but I still think it is painting bacause I am just adding and mixing colours on the surface with a brush... but whatever we call it may I still post the WIPs here? ... less chance I will give up working on him.

Alschemid really nice job on the armor! Maybe we can call it... sculpainting? 

 

Morlanwen you are giving that image a really interesting twist with your contrasts; I love the eyebrows! It's so difficult to make them look realistic without looking like a squirrel's tail; but you nailed it!

Vor, that dress is absolutely lovely! I can't believe you have so much patience to draw it. Good for you! Can't wait to see the final image

 

Mor, your lady looks beautiful! For a first try at digital paining, it looks fantastic! Just one small note: her lips need to be a little thicker towards the left of the drawing, to push the illusion of 3/4 view. Keep it up! It will be awesome to see more digital works from you

@Vor: Oooo I like the dress, it looks so regal. The lighting you put on the drawing starts to make it look solid :3

 

@Morlanwen: The facial features look really good, you draw the eyes' roundness really really well!

 

@alschemid: wait wait you are colouring manually mini Kaidan?? O.o

Ceru, you can keep the wolves in the background, but make sure to give them a very subdued colour. They should not detract from the main characters. This looks fantastic so far!

Ceru a group scene! And so well done! I like the composition, the two characters are connected and their postures feel natural; I like it better without wolves, maybe very subdued as Tesh said. I love seeing progress pics, that gif was a great idea.

 

I worked a little more on the dress; trying to see shades of white is pretty challenging, but I'm enjoying it! And I think it's good training for my eyes. 

 

I plan to go for detail and draw most of the embroidery; I may regret that particular choice later, but I'm motivated for now

About the wolves... Yeah everyone loves the without wolf version XD. I'll see how it goes on the render. Seriously I'd love to put the wolves & probably change the background but well... That won't be trespasser anymore.

The Red Hunter I keep drawing lately. The writer confirmed that there will never be a happy ending for that elf... The last fic about them is just... I did not expect the tears, I did not expect that this will be a character engaging like this. In the beginning they were a bit of a jerk and a strong character with predator traits who's used to being the one in control but then... All my hearts... I did not expect it but well... To make the character grow you must break them

Thank you Ceru!  Yes, I like the slowly building up forms with shading; I used to get so frustrated when my drawings didn't look good right away, these exercises help me remember that a good drawing takes its time.

 

Maybe you can push the eluvian backwards in the drawing, so it looks to be further away? You'd lose a bit of the sense that Solas is about to go through the mirror, but perhaps the wolves being smaller would make it look better.

It will always be hard when a drawing does not live to our expectations... HOw is the dress going?

 

About the wolf & the mirror... No I don't think I'll push it, they needs to be there. Probably cut off the wolf, Idk. We will see.

 

Thanks, that painting is a very... difficult one, I'm literally crying the whole way down doing it. To make the character grow they must be broken & put into position out of their comfort zone. The thing is, this character will be a broken one that won't be salvageable at the end of the story. This is a secondary character, not the main protagonists...

 

So far, I hate the progress. I just hate it so much. This elf is supposed to be golden skinned, and that skin looks just like Marble but not at all alive
