Mor, you might want to add eyebrows to that portrait... Otherwise, she's looking fantastic! Great work :)

Ceru, what is your colour palette? Be careful, because mixing yellow and blue in digital painting gives a muddy colour, not green. Things don't work quite the same digitally as they do with natural media. Have a look at this wonderful image by Diane Ozdamar to get an idea of how you can use your colours to give life to your image.

@Mor: ooooo love the contrast :D
Hmmm... how about eyelashes? You put big contrast on the eye area so all attention will be there, guess that some eyelashes can help making it look even more great :D

@Tesh: Colour palette...? Truth time: I don't know. I see this image in my head and just go paint it with the colour... with this philosophy.

Basically it's more or less this...? I'm partial to the second one... This is still far from finish though T__T

Hmm... Yeah, I like the second one too. One more thing that I only now noticed. You might want to reposition her hand just a little bit. Right now her thumb is in an awkward position. Plus, the line of the thumb cutting across the lower half of the face disrupts the harmony of the composition.

Keep at it, Ceru! You are making such progress! :)

Hmm... Well... Let's be honest, for the hand, I'm noting for next time but for this time it's a big no. I can't, it implies too much. This one has nearly been abandoned 3 times already, if the mhand must be changed again as well delete the whole thing and call it a day. TBH I kinda wants her thumb there tracing at the marking... Since they got Andruil's arrow on the forehead so it's pointing upward anyway... But well, harmony. :pinched:

Noted Tesh, thanks for reminding for that one T___T.

Still painting???

Haha :) Fair enough, Ceru :) His eyes do make a very strong focal point, which is great :)

Ceru, you're too hard on yourself! If I managed to get a drawing like that, I wouldn't abandon it! I know it's great effort, but it's paying off wonderfully. Just look at your first drawings and see how far you've came in so little time!

Mor is that Thora Birch? She reminds me a bit of her. It's looking great  :)

My dress is going veeeeery slow, it takes me hours to more-less finish each part. But I like the result so far. I will start with embroidery on the upper part to get the hang of it, then move down to the skirt. I'm afraid to screw up the drawing after so much work, but blessed are the brave! Any advice on how to draw embroidery before I take the big leap?

thanks Vor :)

About the painting getting abandoned... Let's just say that the subject is very very difficult and then it got way too personal more than what is healthy because I literally cried the whole time.

About embroidery, depends if you want a precise, detailed drawings? People say to makes the texture (embroidery) the most detailed at halftone ?

Oh yes, sorry I forgot about your relationship to this character and the story. Then I offer a big hug of comfort  <3

I aim for a precise drawing, but not way too detailed because it's a full body view so you shouldn't really see a lot of detail of the embroidery, more the general shape (I tend to forget that a lot, I zoom in the image to get a better view but I forget that it doesn't correspond to the actual view of my drawing)

The halftone lead is a good one  :) There are lots of halftones in the image because of the dress being white and the soft lighting, so I'll go for mostly detailed and less for the best lit areas.

In drawing tutorials they keep saying to make the true colours & the truest texture to show up in halftone, in the light shade it's rather washed out and in the shadow it's not noticeable

Can't wait to see how it turned out

@alschemid: wait wait you are colouring manually mini Kaidan?? O.o

I should have posted how it looks without the painting, it is a low poly model so all the details are painted... yea... manually painted. :wizard:

Any opinion on which of these 2 sketches to be render? Basically 1 is the "soft" version, the other one is gore & disturbing but that's what I planned initially....

Alschemid, I didn't know the original model was so simple either, amazing job!

Ceru, it's up to your taste but I think the "gore" version is more powerful (tbh I expected something much harder before I opened the spoiler tag, to me it's not shocking at all but we are all different!)

Further progress on the dress: corset embroidery. It took me around 2 hours just to do that part, but I'm quite happy with the result. I'm thinking I will add a little more detail to the left bottom part, so it matches lighting with the fabric next to it.

Hehe thanks. BAsically I don't think it ended up that triggering for people who did not read the story first because everyone who did basically screamed at me. But there's lots of stuffs going on that what's just on the picture though so... well... :3

The embroidery looks great... Wow you are really good with the details, I won't ever be as patient as that XD

Vor, your dress is shaping up really nicely. I can't believe you have the patience for such detail! Awesome :)

Thanks to you both!  <3 It does take a lot of patience but it's also a fascinating process, it feels a bit like sculpting the dress out of the paper. I'm finishing the lace trimming part (the one just below the neckline), will post a pic soon  :)

Really powerful image Ceru, you're becoming really good with postures and perspective. Everytime I try to draw two people together, they just seem to be glued to each other, but yours don't even without shading.

Vor, the dress looks so nice already, so delicate.

Ceru, the details depends of the painting's size, so I have a 1024x1024 pixels for the armour, 512 x 512 pixels for the head and 256 x 256 pixels for the pistol. It should all fit into a 512 x 512 pixels image but I couldn't do it so small... the pistol painting turned into a pixel art. :pinched:

Spoiler

Added a skeleton so I could pose it, but got so deformed because of low poly count that I gave up on animating it... I should just finish the painting. :?

Thank you, Al!  <3

Kaidan with pistol, I love it! Can you make it a more high count polygon somehow, or would you have to use a new model? (sorry if it's a nonsense question, I have no idea about these things!)

Vor, your dress is looking lovely :) I'd really like to wear something so very pretty :)

Al, tiny Kaidan is adorable :D Love him :)

Ceru, your pieces are so very powerful. I am really enjoying the tremendous progress you are making. Keep it up!

Edit: If anyone has any suggestions for making this fan look acceptable, I am all ears...

What a gorgeous painting, Tesh!!

Regarding the fan, I think the fabric part needs a bit of texture, making it feel a bit more "rugged" Lace looks better on the second version; on the first one, the pattern on the right part looks right, but the one on the left part is maybe a bit flat. Maybe the pattern would look better if you tone it down a bit or add some texture; patterns on fans were usually painted or embroidered so they usually don't look so bright. I'm no expert, though! But these are things I would try.

I found this high quality image of a fan, I hope it helps  :)

Vor, thank you for the suggestions! The reference image you have linked to is gorgeous, and much nicer than the picture I was using. I finally know what pattern to add! Hehe :) And, yes, I will adjust the solid pattern. I haven't tweaked the shadows yet, so that's why it looks a little flat right now. I think I will also have to show her left hand too. It just feels as if the lines are not harmonious enough with her hand not showing in the image.

Glad I could help!  :) I think you're right, it would look better with the left hand showing.

It's face practice next for me; I have been avoiding it for some time, but now that I had my fun drawing the dress, I'm ready for it  :)
