Raaaawwwrrrr!

Raaaawwwrrrr!

Tesh, that Alistair! ![]()
I really like the colour scheme ![]()
Ceru as I said on the finished piece, I love that crossover
You did a very good job, I find it very difficult to work with such a dark scheme.
Further progress on Abelas; as usual, I'm struggling with the face. I think I'll try to make my next drawing bigger; the face is just as big as the tip of my thumb and it's very difficult to shade it properly. I just didn't know what to do with the right foot, so I just left it in that weird half pointe ![]()
Glad you like Ali so far, Vor
Hope to finish the portrait soon
Then it's on to Solas... dun dun duuuuun ![]()
Abelas' foot looks better now, not angled painfully anymore. Did you try to hold up a mirror for the drawing? That's the way to "flip the canvas" in traditional media. It'll be a good way to pick up irregularities.
The only observation I'd have is that his posture looks a little stiff. I am assuming you are working off a reference. Have you tried drawing construction lines over the reference? It's a good exercise for learning how the skeleton holds up the body, and how balance is maintained as the body moves.
Keep it up! ![]()
Progress on Ali's portrait ![]()

It looks so good, Tesh! I don't know how you do it, but the eyes in your portraits always look so lively. It's difficult to create an interesting image with such a closeup, but the strength of his gaze makes it very powerful. Also, I hope one day to have your mastery of facial features ![]()
I almost left the Abelas drawing entirely, as I didn't like how it was turning out. But I finally managed to more-or-less fixed his face, so I'm willing to finish it. I won't work on Abelas figure anymore, only the environment.
Thank you, Vor
Drawing is a skill, and will improve with lots of practice. Anyone can learn how to draw, and anyone can become skilled at it. You can certainly get to my level or surpass it, as long as you keep practicing
As far as talent is concerned, I think that is related to creativity and imagination.
Abelas is looking good. When shading, I find it best to start very light, and then gradually darken. That way, I have more control over the depth of the shadows.
Keep it up!
Ooo! The volume looks good already!
Thank you, my dears!
It was a busy weekend so I couldn't make any further progress, but this week is Easter (Semana Santa in Spain) so I'll have more spare time to work on it.
Yes Tesh, practice makes perfect! I like so much coming here and I always get motivated, makes me keep drawing and see my progress
I usually do shading as you said, but I wanted to try one guy's method that adviced to do it the other way around; I didn't like it at all ![]()
Vor, experimenting is always good while drawing
It will help you find your own style - which is basically the most comfortable and efficient way for you to bring your ideas to life. Glad this little section of the web is keeping you motivated ![]()
Well at least you tried once. That way you can know which works for you ![]()
It's really great to hear that you like coming here!
And I can't wait Abelas to get finished... Whoa!! Prickly Ancient Elf ![]()
Another one of a Luthiel playing Quidditch. Tiny Hufflepuff Seeker for the Moleskin :3
I don't really have a good reference so guess that the foreshortening's rather... O.o

Looks good so far, Ceru
Just one quick note: they actually have foot rests on the broom. That will affect the position of the legs.
I finished watching the second season of Daredevil, and OMG I LOVE JON BERNTHAL ![]()

Punisher update:

Mor, Samara is looking amazing! You really caught her features
Great pose
Keep it up!
I'm on the last chapters of Daredevil season 2, and totally love The Punisher (I'm not a big fan of super hero comics so I didn't know the character, though I have read Daredevil and know and love Elektra) And, yes, Jon Bernthal too
I love your chiaroscuro-ish approach, Tesh, very fitting for the character.
Mor, thank you so much! You and I share the love for those pretty dresses
Your Samara is looking great already! Totally nailed the expression, can't wait to see further progress.
Ceru you're becoming bolder and bolder with poses, and always get them right! Tesh, I think sometimes they get their feet out of the foot rests, specially when they're sitting upright such as in Ceru's pose?
Ohhhh Samara's pose is really difficult but you manage it well whoa... TBH it's great to see how far you've come compared to the first drawing back then ![]()
@Tesh: Idk who that is, but that guy's kissable material. Yep.The lighting's really good ![]()
And whoops you're right! I completely forget about that O.o... Well it's all inked now so WHOOPS!!!
@Vor: I think you already get the forms correctly at least. That expression's really his too, that frown. What's the environment is about?
Current project: still loving my cheaper-but-actually-better-than-true-Moleskine and ink!!!
Making an illustrated codex, a mock-up encyclopedia on the ancient elvhenan from a fic featuring my icon :3
Okay so Canson's Art Book is actually really great and it's holding ink much better than the true Moleskine art. I've abused the inks on several drawings lately and on canson there's zero bleeding and the back of the paper stay pristine white while on my friend's moleskine using the same ink bottle & pens there's some bleeding & the ink rather "flower" (?). You put a drop & it becomes bigger...
I truly want to try Moleskine's watercolour though if I can find portrait format
Ceru, the background represents some inner part of the Temple, where the sentinels retire after battle to heal and rest. It's nice to know that info about the art book, one thing that freaks me out when I'm inking is that "flowering". How do you like those red and blue pencils for sketching? Do you notice a big difference between sketching with them or with a graphite pencil?
I got a big change of theme! I think that in order to draw better backgrounds and one day paint nice landscapes, I have to get familiar with geometric shapes and perspective. I started by drawing a car from this photo reference:
I'm not a big fan of cars, but I think a vintage car box shape is a good place to start practicing. Also I love the bright colour of this one; once I get everything right, I will transfer it to watercolour paper and have some fun with that red.
Vor, Cars are not my thing, no sir. but it looks "fine" (i mean, the car you draw looks like the one on photo ^^)
Little update on my Samara:
Thanks Mor!! That's as far as I expect to go, that it looks similar to the pic
Cars are not my thing either, but I think I will have fun once I get to the watercolour part ![]()
I see you blocked all colours on Samara; she's looking great, I love how you show the texture of her skin.
Another quickie one for ink + colour pencil. It's too dark now, so I will transfer it for inking tomorrow ![]()
@Vor: oooo!!! I really love that one, it feels so naughty XD. His looks I mean.
About the red & blue pencils, they are Prismacolour Col-Erase and I used the blue first to do construction & red one to get the finished lines that's to be inked. The blue one usually already go away by the time it's inked. I love them, they are easy to erase but don't smudge at all. With graphite pencil it smudges... a lot... I don't hold my pencil wells so... ![]()
@Morlanwen: Samara's looking good ![]()
(is that Samara? I don't play ME)
Actually I'm still amazed at how much you had progresssed :3
Anyway... It's happening in the story I'm reading and well...

Yes, that's Samara
Great character with a very interesting story.
Thanks for the info on pencils, Ceru; I think I'll try them out for inked drawings (wonder how they work with watercolours?)
That new drawing is lovely, I love the process images! You changed the arms posture a bit in the last version, no?
Yep, because I just realized that it's the wrong hand XD. Like the thumb is supposed to be on the other side.... The woe of using my own two hands alone...
