Hi again everybody! I was busy finishing a course and couldn't draw or check the group, but I'm back and up to date with the finished works gallery. I missed you! And everybody is improving so much, very interesting and beautiful pieces here.
I have a new "studio": we bought a big table and put it under the biggest window of the living room. Now I can draw with the spring breeze on my face and looking at the park in front of the house and the sea at the horizon. I'm very happy! ![]()
So I decided to celebrate with the first drawing of my canon Quizzy, Ahyoka Lavellan. I used water solluble colour pencils and colour markers for the chest piece. It's good to be back!

I'm having a tough time placing the mouth with this new style, but otherwise I do like it and will keep practicing it

Well done Qween, I really love the way you draw his hair. Curly hairs are difficult to draw!

I've been busy the past few days so I haven't been able to post much but I was able to do the DA:I Inquisitor profile (by hchomgoblin on tumblr) for my canon quizzy:
Also, a couple friends of mine started playing DA:I recently so I drew their quizzies too:

At long last, colour Ghilan'nain is done! It was difficult to handle the gouache, it's very different from watercolours and it has a yellow-ish tint when wet that made me try to use several layers to try and make it look white
But I like how it turned out in the end; I also did some tracing with an H pencil, but olnly on the darkest areas, and I really like the effect.

Yay, purple! She looks awesome, Vor!
So i think i was supposed to be working on Nikolaj, but I got distracted
Her tattoos were a nightmare and are all wrong, but she's so pretty I had to give her a whirl!

Thank you, Qween! ![]()
I'm not much of a Jack fan, but I have to admit she's really pretty; I like how you did her nose and lips, the eyes are a bit asymmetric but hey! One step at a time.

@ Pro - Those Quizzies look great! Looks like you are having fun with them ![]()
@ Vor - Ghilan'nain! Yay, the portrait is done
The concept is great. I like the softness of the colours ![]()
@ Qween - You certainly managed to capture her character - tough, not taking any crap from anyone, and a little crazy ![]()
Great progress, everyone!

Arry Stark. Just before she boards that ship. Valar Morghulis.

No idea on how to make the clothing and the neck looks less flat. TBH I'm NOT happy at all with the overall results, it's really flat. Need to figure out how to make the illusion of volume, depth, and how to make the illusion of life

Ceru, I think you are too hard on yourself. This is tremendous progress.
As far as creating the illusion of depth, make sure to reserve your darkest strokes for the deepest shadows. Don't go very dark in areas that are not in deep shadow

I also think you are too hard on yourself Ceru, you're making huge progress and to me the drawing doesn't look flat except for the clothing. As far as I've gathered from my book on fashion design, tutorials and that huge learning exercise that was Flemeth's drawing, for clothing texture it's very important to capture how different fabrics reflect light (more experienced artists please correct me if I'm wrong) Fabric folds and materials have shades of their own in addition to the general shades (same way as the eyeballs have their own spheric shades and lightings, I guess), and if you're able to reproduce them, you'll be able to create the illusion of fabric texture. For instance in the Flemeth drawing, the illusion of the heavy satin is mainly created by imitating the shadows and lights created by the creases on the fabric.
In the reference photo I saw Arya is wearing some kind of heavy weaved fabric, which can be a pain to draw accurately on the whole piece. My fashion drawing book recommends not representing patterns on the whole of the fabric but only on key parts where light hits differently; and also to keep in mind that patterns are seen more clearly in darker areas and more diffuse in lighter areas. Maybe you can use that to represent the detailed texture fabric on the darker areas (well, not like the black areas xD) and hint it on intermediate and lighter areas.
Jeez that was quite the wall of text! I hope it makes sense, and most of all that it's correct! Just to make sure I make an informed suggestion, here is a direct link to the texture tutorial Tesh posted on the tips thread.
And most of all, be proud of your drawing! I honestly say that I'm impressed with the results you're achieving. ![]()
